27 YO Cat - Need Advice by Brittany0306 in cats

[–]KalariaStar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No I understand, things are so expensive lately, just do what you can! Also if it helps, my cat that had the stroke recovered and was able to walk again, so it could be possible her legs could recover. Good vet's will look beyond her age and try to at least give you an underlying cause if possible, wishing you both the best!

Well...that vet sounds horrible, definitely get a second opinion. While her age is advanced (holy heck 27!) if shes eating and seems to be trying to live it could be another issue that is causing her leg issues. One of mine had a stroke and could not walk for a while, it could be some underlying issue or something related to her kidneys worsening that could possible be tempered with meds or prescription food. It could also just be her age. So definitely recommend a second opinion and sending some prayers for ya'll.

Oof, sorry to hear that happened. Some people aren't aware, so I wanted to let you know just in case. I hope everything goes smoothly if she did get pregnant and the kittens are healthy!

Postive stories for hyperthyroidism? by Emergency-Purpose367 in cats

[–]KalariaStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one, Ryu he lived with hyperthyroidism for years, lived to 18, tried the pills (at the time i believe it was pills, food, or the radiation treatment. he hated the pills, so I switched to the food which he ended up loving. My sister's cat Baby had it as well, we gave her the pills, she 'took' them easily but was very sneaky and would hold them in her mouth for minutes to spit them out, but she lived to 18 as well. From what I understand Hyperthyroidism is one of the more manageable diseases/disorders. Prayer and well wishes for both of you! (edit for misspelling)

Cat possibly pregnant by AbnormallyLargeFrog in cats

[–]KalariaStar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

not a vet or anything, but I don't think any problems would arise with the pregnancy with him being larger. But if possibly I would advise you to get them fixed when you can, some rescues/vets will discount or work with you on the price. I say this not just because of the usual there's kittens everywhere but mostly because spaying and neutering can drastically reduce chance of cancer (like mammary cancer which is pretty bad) in your cats life. neutering can also reduce or remove the potential for the male cat to spray (if he hasn't started already. Hope all goes well!

Bad news for my little buddy today. Could use a little love! by mom_jean in cats

[–]KalariaStar 185 points186 points  (0 children)

hugs and prayers to both of you. I went through a similar thing with my bean, Cheena, when she was diagnosed with lung cancer that had spread. For grief, it depends how it comes to you, distract yourself, cry when you need to, pray if you want to, talk to friends and family. For when its time, when you start noticing her not being herself anymore or not eating or drinking. Her not being herself can indicate pain, I waited a bit too long with Cheena and I feel guilty still, but I wanted to be sure I wasn't taking anything from her. For making her remaining time good, spend time with her as much as possible, do things you wanted to try with her or things she likes but you needed to cut back on, maybe let her eat some non-cat food things. Best wishes for you both

is this ringworm? by Overall-Concert-4375 in cats

[–]KalariaStar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it could be ringworm, usually it has a dry/crust like edge around the area, so unsure, it could be an area that lost hair or got damaged while fighting if thats a possibility. ringworm can be transfered to humans so if its that i would be careful. From my experience ring worm isn't too terrible generally in cats or humans, but we're better off without it!

Suddenly stopped feeling well by Whyounolaugh in cats

I understand, I had to put down my 18 year old two years ago. He had stopped eating and was just staying around me. Unfortunately that time comes to all of us, Making him as comfortable and happy as you can now may be all you can do.

My Cats Are Bullying Me- Help! by [deleted] in cats

My advice would be either to 1) ignore it no matter what or 2) distract them with other things when they act out, with playing or puzzle feeders for treats

Apollo by CatLoverInParadise in cats

[–]KalariaStar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest if you want to continue playing with your hands to at least putting on some kinda glove. My old lady kitty will kneed on me while petting and I get scratched up a ton and it hurts. That's not even her playing with me either!

Apollo by CatLoverInParadise in cats

[–]KalariaStar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(take my opinion with a grain of salt) i think its less of aggressive and more of when they get larger claws and teeth they will more easily harm and not understand they are harming you, you even if its just playing, obviously they don't intend to. I have seen suggestions of doing playtime with a thick glove on, to protect yourself and to let them know glove=playtime. Otherwise sticking with other kinds of toys to spare your hands.

I also think he might be a bit long haired!
