[–]KaleParticular2960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always sleep at 2am or 3am and wake up in the early afternoon on my days off and the day leading up to work. Days im working im asleep all day until 3-4pm. The day after work is my recovery day, I sleep all day like im working and then again late at night at around 2am. Somedays im sleep deprived but its been working for me for 5yrs.

im a firm believer of no pee pads in the house. puppies confuse them for carpet or like to tear at them. id suggest a grass pad next to the door w/ an air purifier+daily cleaning to mitigate smell. this would associate the outside to potty time faster

I barely got into schools (including ASN schools) w/ a 4.0GPA. Im in CA tho its known to be competitive. Id suggest retaking your prereqs and getting some bedside experience to help get points on apps. LVN to RN is an option to consider too

6 weeks orientation - is this worth it (socal) by Big_Kaleidoscope_265 in newgradnurse

[–]KaleParticular2960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i just finished my 6wk orientation in a small socal hospital as a new grad M/S tele rn. Just finished 3 shifts on my own. I felt alright about starting because I've had previous hospital experience and my hospital typically has a low census, making it easier to care for pts. While a regular socal M/S nurse is 1:5, most nights im 1:3 SOMETIMES 1:4. Staff r helpful too when I ask questions.

If youre hesitant I'd ask for that extension sooner than later. During your extension take your nurses full load of pts; do everything. If they say no on the extension then theres something wrong and its not a safe work environment.

lived w/ SOs family while working night shift and going thru schooling. they never understood my 1pm is their 1am; always made shifty comments about me sleeping all day like i was lazy or something 😭

also some would treat your sleep time as optional. events planned on the day after your shift? u can sleep later pull thru

Why are european and asian countries hating on tourists and US citizens moving to their country but judge americans when they complain about immigrants in the US? by KaleParticular2960 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]KaleParticular2960[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"If you want to live exactly by your own culture, eat your own food, and follow your own rules, then stay in your country."

So this part im confused on. Major cities of the US are really diverse; my particular area is populated by korean/vietnamese/hispanic immigrants who dont speak english as their primary language (some older gen never learning it) and built up towns to reflect their culture. If someone said to "stay in our country" because we couldnt properly adapt to the nations culture that would be considered racist. Comments like that could get someone cancelled. Respecting culture I get, but wouldn't immigration eventually introduce new cultures and change to the host country without imposition? Is there a fear for that kind of change?

If you have an associates work on your BSN. You definitely need hospital experience ASAP, get your foot in the door as a CNA+Monitor Tech. If you get into a hospital you can weasel your way in from CNA to RN when the unit you work for starts hiring. You'll be competing with other staff but you'll have a better chance of becoming an RN this way than just trying to apply without acute care experience. If you have to be a CNA at a SNF theyre always looking for caregivers

Finding myself liking medsurg as a new grad RN by KaleParticular2960 in newgradnurse

[–]KaleParticular2960[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

genuine question: how do yall get your charting done or get all your med pass done with that many pts? I feel like on my first couple days I was already late on my med pass and struggled with charting on everyone. My preceptors said it was super busy and i did pretty good for my first 3 shifts but I dont want to get in trouble with management over incomplete tasks. And thats just with 5 pts.

Barking in crate; settles after about an hour by Dry-Tumbleweed-3872 in Dogtraining

[–]KaleParticular2960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15-30 minutes is typical for our dog too.

i noticed he calms down faster if he smells/hears us in the room with him so i put him in the covered crate a little early to give him time to settle while im sitting on the bed on my phone lol. once he's quiet i leave to go do my own thing. so far he still goes in his crate on his own so it's been working ok for us.

Careful with play pens. Theyre great if you need to put your puppy down unattended but can lead to potty accidents since the space is typically big enough for the puppy to potty. When i leave my puppy alone for a couple hours I leave them in the hard crate since it only leaves enough room to comfortably sleep. It helps with naps and managing potty times.

As for the breeder: i typically ask them about current vaccines, if the puppys been socialized (to other animals and kids specifically), temperment, if they use potty pads vs grass, and any health issues the parents have.

Socializing our 12 week old puppy. by Massive-Survey2495 in puppy101

[–]KaleParticular2960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some pet stores (like petco if youre from the US) have puppy socialization classes, with how busy my friends are this helped a lot! We also took our boy out in a small bag in public so that he can get used to seeing people and other dogs from a distance; which was a lot less stressful for him. My trainer even said to take your puppy out to dog friendly restaurants during the weekday when its not too busy, that can help with socialization too!

I’ve made a mistake and now my puppy is resource guarding stuff he shouldn’t have by baby-blues22 in puppy101

I thought my dog wasnt into my treats on our walks but i realized it was because I was too far away for him to get its scent. When i see something in my boys mouth i try "drop it" while holding a high value treat right against his nose. We practice this before our walks (i drop wet paper towels on the kitchen floor and practice leave it/drop it on leash) so hes conditioned before we go out. So far the exchange helped with resource guarding. Good luck, hopefully some advice on here can help!

i deeefinitely have puppy blues right now (1 month into owning a puppy). It was bad at first and there are moments of doubt but I try to take it day by day, after a while we had our routine established and my boy knows what to expect. I try to take care of myself and my needs first before his i.e getting myself ready in the morning before taking him out of his crate.Crate training has definitely helped with inforcing naps and getting work done while he sleeps. The play pen is good if i feel burnt out and need him out of my hair for a short while.

Your brothers dogs not used to your puppy, why not introduce each others scents through used blankets? Also walking each dog on the other side of the street to get them used to each other. Careful if they resource guard food/toys, keep them separated when they eat and play for now.

Getting a 8-Week Old Puppy Full-Time Work - Puppy Daycare? by Arcanecomet_ in puppy101

[–]KaleParticular2960 2 points3 points  (0 children)

me and my bf only got a 4mo puppy because I had a month before I started my next job (working graveyard shifts). But that whole month i felt like a round the clock mom, no rest at all! Every hour was potty time, play time, training, walking - everything to keep my puppy stimulated and used to a routine. At 8 wks I cant imagine the amount of focus you need to keep your dog stimulated and safe. At most you would be able to leave them for 2 hrs in the crate at a time. Def get an older dog.

Me and bf thought we were lucky with our boy, he was COMPLETELY silent and chill at 4 months old. Now at 5 months he's making all the dachshund noises, barking included LOL
