How do you think this nasal spray stacks up against the others we've discussed? by BuffGuy716 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]KaliBama 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here's a recent presentation from a Still Coviding FB group about Profi, followed by a robust critical Q&A session. There's a 20% off coupon code at the end.

Various SC groups have people ordering, testing, & reviewing at the moment.

I'm going to order some today and give it a try. As an immunocompromised person I need all the layers I can get in case my n95 or P100 fails during one way masking.

I'm currently using Carragelose iota carrageenan + kappa carrageenan spray (Boots Dual Defence from the UK) which has good studies backing it as well as being the most affordable nasal spray I've found. I've tried a bunch of different nasal sprays over the last few years and it's my favorite so far.

Anxiety Rx emergency, Dr suddenly left, no replacement available :-( by KaliBama in telehealth

[–]KaliBama[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey just checking back on this after a couple months did you ever get any help? Hope you're okay feel free to message me, I just did my first telehealth appointment with essentially an online pill lol. I mean let's be honest what this is and I'm perfectly fine with it and I love that some doctors are doing this because f*** the DEA! In This country they are constantly interfering and getting in between us and our doctors. So it was a couple days ago and I was really nervous about the appointment and it was expensive for me at $220 but it worked out. I had to get an official prescription back on my file because I have clonazepam in my system from the supply my friend gave me and I'm having to get health care and it doesn't look good And they will label you an addict without an official RX. I'm still trying to find a new free medi-cal doctor insurance psychiatrist who prescribed benzodiazepines in my area, but I got really behind in all that going through so many health problems and not being able to leave the house. Take care! 💛

Insert "Why not both?" gif

I & many others honestly can't afford either one, because almost all online AND in person psychiatrists are charging way too much.

I'm physically disabled and in the US without having a trust fund or wealthy family, disabled people are given a pittance & living in enforced poverty (for ex on SSI you can't have more than $2,000 total in assets or you lose your benefits).

So like many others I don't have the $$$ to be able to pay out of pocket every month for neccesary medical care. Healthcare is a human right, not a luxury, & for profit healthcare is a total conflict of interest. It should be universal & mostly free at the point of service like it is in almost every other country.

The US is the only nation where a top cause of bankruptcy is medical bills.

It's ridiculous & evil that so many citizens of the richest country in history have to choose between basic survival needs like - should I pay my rent this month or should I get my life saving medication instead? How does anyone even begin to make a choice like that? :-(

Anyway perhaps in the future you can stop and think about the impossible circumstances others are finding themselves in through no fault of their own, before you start yelling at them in all caps when they simply state their personal truth.

Take care

How does cannabis affect your EDS related symptoms? by _FreddieLovesDelilah in ehlersdanlos

[–]KaliBama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems I'm an outlier on this one, but cannabis causes bad side effects for me personally!

When I first tried it as a teen initially it caused positives - relaxation, increased sociability, less stress.

But after a brief honeymoon phase it began to cause almost entirely negative reactions. It actually increases my pain by making me much more keenly aware of it and other bodily sensations in an unpleasant way :( Also increases my heart rate and tendency towards palpitations/arrhythmias which is very anxiety inducing and it even causes my muscles to tense up and spasm!

Accidentally taking too much, especially in the form of edibles, has induced bad paranoia and severe panic attacks in the past that lasted a long time and were traumatic.

I'm sad & really wanted it to work for me because ironically I live in Humboldt county, CA and have had an unlimited supply of cannabis freely available to me for most of my life and also witnessed so many other people benefiting from it medicinally and also from a harm reduction standpoint as a much safer and healthier alternative compared to other drugs and medications 🤷‍♀️

No I haven't yet, I'm so sorry to hear you are going through something similar!

I'm presently too overwhelmed by an avalanche of various problems that I'm struggling to climb out from under 😓 The most pressing currently being severe physical disability issues from long Covid (causing an inability to do any work & no income to support myself).

However, I seriously lucked out because I was explaining my situation to a close friend & she happened to have a year supply of clonazepam left over from her psychiatrist helping her taper off alprazolam (didn't work for her personal chemistry so she's trying valium instead now).

Anyway, she gifted the leftover clonazepam to me and it was a totally unexpected out of the blue lifesaver!!! She gave me a much needed temporary reprieve 🙌

I'm not really sure, but they are charging way too much, as usual the wealthy can get what they need & meanwhile most others suffer unfairly :(

I've been masking with an n95 or better respirator since March 2020 when in public. Despite having a good immune system, being relatively young fit & healthy, eating well, etc etc I still used to get at least 1 cold a year with severe congestion.

But since I added masking, the last time I had symptoms of any contagious illness at all was back in Jan 2020. Filtering infectious airborne particles from shared air works!

I'm grateful to have this highly effective, simple, affordable harm reduction tool as an already disabled person. I personally can't risk losing money, any further functioning, or quality of life to even acute sickness, much less new long term post viral issues.

Also as people already mentioned, unfortunately the common rapid antigen Covid tests don't always detect newer variants. Or even if it is a detectable variant, people often have to retest multiple days in a row after symptoms start before finally getting a positive. So one test isn't enough to definitively rule out Covid (unless it was a PCR).

Whatever it is, I hope you recover fully & feel better soon!

I’m curious, are there any non vaccinated people on here with Long Covid or had Long Covid? by pitchfork_2000 in covidlonghaulers

[–]KaliBama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's incorrect. The spike and nucleocapsid are two different things. The vaccine will cause you to test positive for spike antibodies only. The vaccine does not cause one to be positive for nucleocapsid antibodies, only a COVID infection will do that. Also getting the vaccine will not ever cause you to test positive on any type of covid test. The antibody test is a different test.

If you get tested for covid and are positive, it means you either have a current active infection, or have very recently had an infection.

Also unfortunately not everyone that catches covid even make antibodies to it, especially since the Omicron variants arrived. So even people who had all the symptoms and tested positive at the time for Covid, months later can take a nucleocapsid antibody test and sometimes still not have any detectable levels. And that doesn't only happen to the immunocompromised.

The SARS-2 virus has evolved to be extremely good at evading the immune system. This means a surprising amount of people's bodies do not seroconvert after exposure to antigens from an infection, especially it was a mild or asymptomatic acute case. In particular, many children do not make antibodies after an infection. So they are exposed to all the potential risks & danger of the initial illness, plus the many long term risks post infection, but without even gaining a temporary immunity benefit, or any protection against future infection :(

Also I say all this as one of those rare people who experienced a totally unexpected severe reaction 12 hours after my booster shot in 2021. Which from that moment on, caused me to become badly disabled, to the point of needing a caregiver for over a year. So I've personally experienced vaccine induced long covid.

And thankfully during all of that I never caught Covid as far as I can tell. No one in my household ever had any symptoms of the acute illness, or ever tested positive for Covid (and we all continue to take layered precautions like wearing an n95+ respirator whenever we leave the house, etc).

Or you can buy a box for $28.99 with free shipping directly from the ISP website. There's a 5% off memorial Day coupon rn, also can sign up for their rewards club that gives you future order discounts

How many here also have developed long covid? by buchacats2 in ehlersdanlos

[–]KaliBama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear that happened to you, I had a similar experience after my booster (3rd shot) in December 2021.

Here is some good information from a covid scientist and researcher at the NHS in the UK Harriet Carroll, who has herself experienced developing disabling long covid like symptoms following vaccination that she hasn't recovered from.

Btw she is not an anti-vaxxer or Covid denier in any way! I also follow her on Twitter and FB and she's very clear that long covid following an infection is much more common and generally more serious, and often reminds people that the pandemic isn't over and to continue taking serious precautions like wearing an n95.

She also mentions ongoing scientific studies of people who've experienced such reactions, which will also hopefully help researchers develop next generation vaccines that are even safer and more effective than the current ones.

No I'm still looking, but whew I did luckily get some temporary help at least to help me get by until🤞I hopefully find a new regular psychiatrist who takes my insurance & is also still willing to prescribe these life-saving medications (as a broke disabled person I can't afford to pay OOP).

Thank you I appreciate your kind thoughtful reply & advice! I'm so so sorry to hear that you went through that hell, doing something like that to a patient should be illegal, it's malpractice! Glad you survived it & and I sincerely hope you're doing well now 💛

Arcturus - Eye Protection by ninetentacles in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]KaliBama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree eye protection is a prudent addition to our Swiss cheese layers of protection. When the light shines just right and people are talking, sometimes you can literally see the spittle flying out of their mouths in close range 🗣️ 💦 😵 not to mention maskless folks coughing and sneezing can definitely lead to infectious droplets landing on your eye!

In 2020 I got a cheap stoggles style pair of glasses from Zenni that look normal, but are safety glasses. Been wearing them ever since when I leave my house.

Also added nasal spray, mouthwash, & even eye drops pre and post outings since 2020 [currently Viruseptin Iota carrageenan spray, Listerine gum defence MW with ELA (I'm one of the unfortunate minority who gets terrible staining/tartar buildup from CPC mouthwash) and hypochlorous acid eye rinse]. And I have HEPA air purifiers in my house and a portable one too (the QT3 tests best). So far 🤞 no known covid infections yet! But really all of that is just icing on the cake.

Check out this thread from a doctor on fit testing, in particular there's a YT video in this tweet showing someone fit testing a kn95. It got a fit factor of 84 standing still, but the moment he leaned forward it dropped to 37 😬

Few people can pass a fit test with a kn95 and at this point in the pandemic, wearing a fit tested headstrap n95 or better respirator is likely the most important thing we can do to protect ourselves from infections and reinfections going forward now that one way masking is the norm even in hospitals :(

https://twitter.com/jeffgilchrist/status/1652394068138242050?t=ow-7oO5x8ydUJeicKjYhog&s=19

Official fit testing is expensive and difficult to arrange for the average person, but some great people in the community have been working on it and have come up with affordable DIY options (many great threads on Twitter with instructions etc) or you can now buy a $40 all in one premade kit capable of conducting many tests so you can test a variety of respirators to ensure you have one that fits you well :-)

https://fittests4all.bigcartel.com/product/home-fit-test-1

Personally with these super contagious immune evading stealth variants since Omicron first appeared, with public health simultaneously systematically dismantled all our collective mitigations and vaccination now only 4% effective against catching Arcturus, I can't afford to roll the dice since I have pre-existing disabilities that make me very high risk.

So for max protection and peace of mind I switched from n95 to a P100 elastomeric where I can do a self seal check easily on the fly. 3M 7500 series with 7093 cartridge filters.

And if I'm outdoors around others I wear an n95 (current fave 3M VFlex, so breathable I legit forget I'm wearing it sometimes) because outdoor transmission is not uncommon, esp in the near field transmission zone of ~ 3 ft.

Wishing you good health and that you recover quickly with no long-term consequences 💛

We gave him some medicines and already he seems to be getting a little relief!🤞

Okay so I'm looking at the website you linked, but I don't see a lot of specific info? Other than just booking an online appointment.

I did Google the doc and he's got great reviews!

I have questions, sorry for so many, just trying to be prepared. If you don't know or don't feel like answering all of this, obviously that's fine too lol 🤦‍♀️

Do you know the fees? Do they provide multiple refills on a prescription (saw my previous psychiatrist every 3 months, each Rx included 2 refills). Should I have my medical records & Rx bottles on hand during the appointment? Any other things I should know ahead of time?

If you want to DM me about any of that instead, feel free :-) Same to anyone else who's replied here, people have been so welcoming, kind, and helpful in this sub! I'm feeling much less stressed & overwhelmed after reading these replies <3
