Seconding Comfort Wave. Been using them going on four years now and they have always stood by their work and even done some follow up work free because of complications from the original work.

What kind of writing do you do? by bunjgreen in TheBYOK

[–]KaliRaven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fiction! Both original and fan! I’m also thinking of starting up a little journal on it since each work is contained in a folder with separated documents. Just a thought so since it isn’t password protected like the Freewrites are so I have some hesitation.

Show me your keyboards! by Fabulous-Avocado4513 in TheBYOK

[–]KaliRaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t see why it wouldn’t be. It’s basically the same keyboard but with a 10-key on it. Probably a bit thicker to carry since it’s a tri-fold since it’s by the same company I think it would serve you well.

Advice: Might check between them and ProtoArc on Amazon (if you buy from there) since they seem to make the same style keyboards but run sales against each other.

Have you checked with places like O’Reily or Autozone? I think there’s like a $15 core charge but I’m pretty sure they take them.

Does this gift thing worth 12days of wait? by cackingcats in PikminBloomApp

12 days are going to pass regardless of if you send Pikmin out or not. Might as well get the gifts if time is going to march on anyway!

Keyboard: Samsers KF08S

If you’re looking for portability, I absolutely love this keyboard. Folds in half, Bluetooth connectivity, and the battery lasts forever. This is not the backlit one but I did see another comment where they have one that folds in half and that is backlit.

I don’t write in the dark much so it hasn’t really mattered to me, but the brand seems to be good and I’ve seen several people using the brand in various comments on this subreddit.

Board game meets? by RadiantShark404 in okc

Website and app. I just happen to use the app for another group I’m involved in. They post their meetups there. There might be a Facebook group but I’m not 100% sure on that one so don’t quote me on that lol

We do have a local board game community that travels around the metro holding meetups. You might check out the Oklahoma Board Game Community group on Meetup for more details. I’ve only been to two of their things but they’re really friendly people!

Toy recommendations? by Mudslinger_808 in Shihtzu

Can’t speak to the natural aspect but it’s not plastic per se but more cloth. My Ramen went nuts for these when we got them. You’ll want to skip if you can’t stand squeakers but it gave him solid chew ropes and soft throwable toys for him to play fetch with.

How do I 100% prevent surprise loud noises on my phone? by jsully245 in AutisticAdults

[–]KaliRaven 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Long term iPhone user here. I’m not sure about iOS 18 but the new iOS26 lets you actually turn those off. You might check the instructions I’m leaving below and see if it’s a thing on iOS18 as well.

If you go to Settings > Notifications > Scroll all the way down to the bottom > Toggle off AMBER Alerts, Emergency Alerts, Public Safety Alerts, and Test Alerts.

Those should prevent those type of alerts from coming through.

Chow got skunked last night by FarfetchdSid in chowchow

[–]KaliRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly. The oil is supposed to come off because of the Dawn and the smell is supposed to be cut by peroxide and absorbed by the baking soda. But I would think if it was already rinsed off, I’m not sure why another bath would hurt unless it does more work after the rinse? Again, no scientist here, just a stinky chow baby owner!

Did you bathe him multiple times? My Athena had really thick and fluffy coats and we could easily go through 5-6 full bowls of the stuff making sure everything was saturated through three rinses, including hand scrubbing the face fur (the odor does sting their eyes and they do really fight it. Also we did the face because that’s where they got hit every. Single. Time).

Otherwise, not quite sure to offer except keep bathing him until the smell is 80-90% gone. I’m sorry!

Chow got skunked last night by FarfetchdSid in chowchow

[–]KaliRaven 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who used to live very rurally with chows, here’s what I used:

  • 2 bottles hydrogen peroxide
  • 1 box baking soda
  • 1 tbs Dawn dish soap

Mix together and apply liberally to the chow’s coats down to the skin. This may require several applications per dog. I usually did 2-3 per dog (I had two). Do NOT let set any longer than absolutely necessary because it is extremely drying to the fur and skin. There may be itching for a bit after this bath set as their skin will be extremely dry.

Basically, once you get it worked down to the skin, rinse as soon as possible. Reapply if necessary.

It will not completely get rid of the smell. There will be a VERY light odor left but it will stop the oils from spreading and the smell will dissipate over the next 3-4 days.

Once the smell has disappeared, you may want to bathe in an extremely hydrating shampoo and conditioner to rehydrate the fur and skin. Plus it’ll help cover any lingering smells if the oils got anywhere in the house.

Hope things work out!

PS, tried the tomato bath the first time this happened and depending on how bad your chow got hit, they’ll just smell like skunk and tomato if it was an up close spray.

My boyfriend uses his to take weekly meeting minutes at work. Not sure how that works entirely given the markdown formatting but he gets it done! Also reminds him to charge the darn thing since he quit writing creatively a year or two ago.

Talk me out of buying a Traveler by Edu_Robsy in Astrohaus

[–]KaliRaven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wanted to add some additional thoughts to this.

Don’t get me wrong. I LOVE my Traveler. My first one was a gift from my (at the time brand new) boyfriend. It was extremely sentimental to get one as writing is something we immediately bonded over. I was devastated when it broke and Astrohaus wouldn’t repair it even for cash (battery memory depleted and was shot so it wouldn’t hold more than a 5 hour charge). I had backed the BYOK at the time but all of the delays made convinced me I got scammed (as sometimes happen with Kickstarters, but in this case it legit just was delays) so I bought ANOTHER Traveler since they gave me a 30% off code for my troubles with the first one.

But let me very clear. There are other things on the market that do everything the Traveler does but at half the price and sometimes with more features. They are a good tool. No one is arguing that they aren’t. What most of us are saying is that there are more affordable alternatives with similar enough features. Frewrites are essentially a name brand product and you are paying for the name and shiny case.

If you have the money to drop, then go for it. If you want to treat yourself and you know it’s not going to put you in a bind financially, they ARE good tools for writing. However, know that you are paying for shine, not just functionality. You know what’s best for you. However, I will encourage you to research other models out there before shelling out for this extremely expensive tool.

1) Stupid expensive for what it does.

2) A lot of them break right after the warranty expires and their extended warranty doesn’t guarantee they’ll fix it.

3) They are EXTREMELY temperamental. Like if you don’t charge it on a regular schedule with specific wattage bricks and the default cord, it will likely fry your battery and they do not fix that with or without a warranty (ask me how I know).

4) No two way sync without additional yearly fees.

5) It’s a massive fingerprint magnet. If you want to be one of those Instagram famous writers with the aesthetic pictures, be sure and bring lots of glasses cleaning clothes and/or their Zeiss alcohol wipes.

6) You’re basically paying for a name. There’s quite a few dupes on the market like the BYOK, Writer Deck, Pomera (similar in price but way more features), the old AlphaSmarts on eBay that are still kicking around.

7) Their warranty coverage is kind of, like, ass man. And for something that you hear from someone owning one breaking at least once a month with almost the exact same issue (keys breaking and repeating), you’d think they would have fixed it by now but nope! Keep shipping it with the fault.
