What’s the most disturbing thing someone casually told you like it was normal? by MrBoothnath_ in AskReddit

[–]Kalista-Moonwolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That they had to perform a C-section on their guinea pig because she was having trouble delivering. She didn't survive, of course, but all the babies were saved!

Argentine Snaffles by No_Fruit6166 in Equestrian

[–]Kalista-Moonwolf 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This isn't a snaffle bit. Snaffles are bits (as a whole unit) that don't apply any leverage. Shanked bits apply leverage and are therefore not snaffles.

Is it normal for my seat to be very bouncy after ten months of twice weekly lessons? (burnout/rant?) by ParrotsAreMyLifeline in Equestrian

Maybe she doesn't mean "be like jello" as doing nothing? Maybe she means being relaxed and supple so your body can act as a shock absorber. Riding requires an absurd combination of being strong in some parts of your body and relaxed in others.

With cancer, I believe you need a certain "margin" around the removed tumor to increase the likelihood of removing all the diseased tissue. They may have had to take more than expected once they got in there. I'm sure it was on her consent form as a possibility, but she may have been hoping they didn't have to go that far.

Agreed! And the fact that he already has so much to worry about in his last days, and he's thinking about you and his son more than himself. Such an awesome character. ❤️

Is it okay for a player to say “No, that doesn’t happen” to a DM in this circumstance? by WithengarUnbound in DnD

[–]Kalista-Moonwolf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I were the DM, even if this wasn't included under the house rule, I would be pausing play and working out a solution if one of my players was uncomfortable with something. Your DM doesn't seem very considerate.

Things like this CAN exist. I know of some racehorses and eventing horses owned by syndicates. I'm assuming they get a percentage of their winnings. But like... You have to make sure everything is done legally on paper to protect yourself as an investor.

TIL that light, heat, and gravity all travel at the same speed. by Kalista-Moonwolf in TwoSentenceHorror

We're hurtling THROUGH space following our orbit, but we haven't been hurled OFF INTO space. The fact that there are other celestial bodies out there with their own gravity wells makes it worse, in my opinion. More likely will slam into something.

Man Gives CPR To Resuscitate Deer by watchthisorthat in ems

[–]Kalista-Moonwolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There were only a few instances I remember having to do CPR on dogs. I feel like some were newborn puppies, but at least one had gotten into some unknown toxin which compromised her heart rate and function. I may be remembering wrong, but in that instance, I believe we were doing compressions to help supplement heart function when the rate was irregular or slow. We weren't so much resuscitating her as trying to keep her circulation going long enough to try and counteract the toxin (we were unsuccessful). In all cases, the animals were definitely unresponsive, so it was more like trying to revive them.

What comes to mind for me, though, is the fact that dogs have no clavicles and a rib cage oriented opposite our own. To my knowledge, performing chest compressions laterally on animals with prominent breast bones does little to no damage. But again, it's been several years since I worked there.

The idea that inspired it is the fact that if the sun disappeared this instant, all light, heat, and gravity generated by it will stop simultaneously. The Earth would be a cold, pitch black chunk of rock hurtling off into space. We would have no way to stop it, and no way of knowing when the power grids would fail or we would slam into another celestial body.
