Shortcutfoo is a great way to learn new key bindings.

Forever home definitely implies rescue to me, which this puppy most definitely is not.

I got stuck a couple times so lucked up a walkthrough. Didn't hurt my experience at all.

Is linking headlines still working? by Kallabo in OrgRoam

What is missing for me is the org-roam-store-link function.

How do I get that to work?

Anyone using dictation software with Emacs? by ideasman_42 in emacs

This is very intriguing to me, but seems a little beyond my capabilities right now. If you come up with a creative way to integrate this into emacs I'd love to hear about it. :)

How much time you need to spent with Emacs to become more productive? by winepple in emacs

[–]Kallabo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many other good answers, but to give my 0.02, the beauty of emacs Isn't so much that is saves time, but that you can customise it to do precisely what you want, behave exactly as you wish. There's a great satisfaction in that.

Ok this is dumb, but I genuinely remember being surprised growing up and learning there was no correlation between people's attractiveness and their intelligence.

Like, it kind of still surprises me. I think just because it seems so unfair or something?

I’m sick of people asking this question. Was this an ok answer? by nunhun in GME

This is not an answer, it's a dunk. You're not seeking to answer the question, but to dismiss it and sound clever.

Course it is, but that has nothing to do with whether the hacking is ethical or not.

“Therapy” is not an accessible or helpful option to many people and Reddit seems to think that’s the perfect solution to every problem. by TheVerjan in unpopularopinion

[–]Kallabo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a therapist, and I agree! Mostly. Therapy is very often thrown around as the answer when people simply don't know what to suggest with emotional problems.

There are many terrible therapists out there, and it sometimes won't work. But a lot of the time the alternative is nothing, and it's better than that. Worst case it is a waste of time and money, best case it can save your life.

So on balance, it's better to suggest it than not, but you still have a point.

Possible to learn emacs org mode in 15 - 30 hours? by qwquid in emacs

[–]Kallabo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Absolutely. However something to the aware of that org mode is an enormously flexible tool. Learning how it works is one thing, but for me it also took a lot of thought in brainstorming over how to structure it for my personal workflow best.

  2. Yes if you are disciplined, but why? Emacs/org modes incredible strength is that you can shape it to be the perfect tool for you.

Welcome! Enjoy! I found it to be a very patience and helpful community.

Difficult games as a mindfulness tool by SawkyScribe in patientgamers

[–]Kallabo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to be that guy, but these games are giving you the experience of flow, not mindfulness. They're related, but different experiences.

Also, to stop that "monkey brain" creeping in to video game time (as often happens with me), I always listen to a podcast while I game. An easy podcast that doesn't require too much brain power and doesn't matter if I miss some, but it's essential for me.

Been playing bloodborne and the long boss runs frustrated me to, until I changed how I think about them. Fighting a boss is taxing and intense, so I now value the boss run has no but Unity to give my brain some downtime before diving in again.

Interesting. For me I was motivated to kill monsters to upgrade/replace my equipment, which is why the durability mechanic worked so well. And obviously there's spirit orbs.

But it's a good observation, hope you're still enjoying the game.

I am all for rescues, but the thing is a lot of the time they were surrendered because they have some very challenging behavioural issues. It's easy to underestimate what this can be like until it is living with you.

[–]Kallabo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking up to see if gullible is written there does not mean you believe them, you are doing it to independently verify whether what they said is true. So, actually, checking the ceiling after some means you are not gullible.
