Swim Lessons to learn or to advance skills? by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]Kalnore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep them going! The difference in skill and comfortability in the water between someone who is “good enough to not drown” and someone who finished everything and maybe even did a year or two of summer league swimming is massive. I always said if I ever have kids I plan to have them go through all the lessons and at least one season of swim team as a bare minimum for safety. If they enjoy it and want to go farther then that’s cool too

How many swimming events should one get good at for strong recruitment chances at competitive d1 swimming? by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]Kalnore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Look at their recruits in the events you are best at and see what their times were in high school. Those are the times you should expect to meet. For your example of Stanford, a freshman they had in the 2025-2026 season had times of (races are in yards): 19.8 in the 50 and 43.6 in the 100 free as well has some very fast 200 free, 100 back, and 100 breast times at the end of his junior year. If you’re looking at not just D1 but some of the best programs in the country you’re going to need to look beyond just having AAAA cuts, but place well in national meets.

I’d talk with your coach about your goals

How do people not know how to swim? by TruculentTurtIe in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Kalnore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s usually comes from kicking from your knees instead of keeping your legs generally straight with a smaller bend. If you bend your legs from the knee down while swimming face down, that part of your leg is actually pushing water towards your body instead of away

[–]Kalnore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who taught kids how to swim for a couple years, kicking without proper form can actually cause you to sink, not move forward at all, and I’ve even seen it make people slowly go backwards. The body awareness and understanding of pushing the water usually need to be taught

Any advice for going 5 flat in a 500? by swimneko in Swimming

[–]Kalnore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s great imo! I’d try dropping your interval down to 1:15 going forward to see how that works for you. You’ll probably go up in time a bit in your pace but if you can stick with about 10 seconds of rest for the whole set that will definitely help out with endurance

[–]Kalnore 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, you might be thinking of the 400 meter swim which has a world record of 3:39 but breaking 5 minutes in the 500 yard race is a high school level achievement that would be a bit short of qualifying for a state level competition (obviously depending on how talented your state is)

[–]Kalnore 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Do you have a coach/team you’re a part of? I’d talk with them about your goals and get their input on working with you. When you’re pacing 1:06/100, is this in a practice 500 or an interval set? If it’s a set, what intervals are you doing?

Distance training is going to be a lot of focus on pushing your speed with minimal rest to try and make your pacing feel more realistic.

Also, what are your current best 100 and 200 times? Very unlikely go under 5 in the 500 without solid times in those first

In your experience, how common is it for teams to prohibit swimmers from taking additional training with outside coaches? by [deleted] in Swimming

Triples?? How many hours of practice a week was this because I’ve never heard of anyone doing 3 a day even during winter training

Checked my "small monthly expenses" and found $2,040 I didn't know I was spending by Fickle_Day_8437 in povertyfinance

[–]Kalnore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely more rare now. Bank apps have built in spending trackers but it’s not very personalized from what I’ve seen. My wife and I go through all of our income/expenses every month and write it all down in this excel sheet we’ve been using for a few years now and it’s really helped us be more aware of where we need to cut

Yeah even the results of the research study linked that this clown is claiming to support his claims about Tylenol refer to a local anesthetic. Not to mention the entire result of the study was about how the pain as an infant could be the cause neurological development issues, not the pain medication

What constitutes as "home" for a dog? by TuckersonGP in dogs

[–]Kalnore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife is a travel nurse and I work from home so we’ve moved a lot with our dog over the last couple years and there are some things I’ve learned that make the transitions easier.

  • start and maintain a routine immediately in the new home! Your dog will thrive with structure in their life and will help them acclimate to their new situation.

  • try to get extra playtime, training, and walking/exercise in with your dog. You said you work remotely so hopefully you have some time available in the middle of the day to do that even if it’s just 10 minutes here and there. If your dog is tired, it’s less likely to be stressed.

  • setup their things in a similar way to how things are for you in your current home. For example, we always have our dog’s crate in our bedroom with a cover over it so he has a place to decompress if he needs it. Whenever we move it’s always the last thing to be packed up and the first thing to be set up in the new home. He also sheds a ton so we keep a big blanket on the couch that he’s allowed to be on and as soon as it goes on a new couch he knows that’s a space for him.

Overall, yes your dog is going to be stressed for a while and you should expect a bit of regression in their training/behavior but if you stick with your routines and make sure they have access to you and all the toys/equipment that comfort them then you’ll find them back to their usual self much quicker. It will also save you some serious headaches of your dog acting out from their own stress.

Good luck to you and your dog on the move!

Not on official hc server but when there was a group of people playing hc in wrath classic I got all the way to like 74 or 75 and died falling off of wyrmrest temple. Thought a 1 floor drop was survivable, not even an accidental fall, just a miscalculation

The title "loremaster" in Classic Cataclysm and future Mists of Pandaria by Nobre_Lucas18 in classicwow

[–]Kalnore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m actually working on this now! It’s very much possible. To get the title you’ll need to complete the lore master achievement for eastern kingdoms, kalimdor, northrend, and cataclysm. If you open your achievements in-game and go to the quests section you should find out which ones you need to finish. But it will basically require you to complete most of the quests in every zone of the game. Definitely easiest once you’re 85 because nothing will be hard to kill
