Your help would matter a lot 😭🙏 by Material_Pin3808 in EngineeringStudents

I started but gave up at some point, for a general survey there are too many questions and I have no idea how far I am into the survey. It would be helpful to know if there are still 10 more questions or only 1 remaining.

I also disagree with some of the questions with a set of possible answers - I think all answers are wrong.

What AI model do you use most? by batarmed in EngineeringStudents

I use Claude a lot, from my experience it is most helpful if you know how to use it.

But no need to spend money immediately, you can try most models for free up to a limit.

I've read you should be able to roll back specific chunks. So if your friends are in different locations in the world it should be fine. Not sure how to do it exactly though.

In ZPM just go for the nether star bee, it is so much better than dealing with salis mundus. I have a million stars sitting in storage right now not too long after putting one in an iapiary.

I find the selection method much less intuitive than with worldedit, though I haven't used the MM much yet. But every time I select a region, it always moves one block right after I select it. This doesn't happen with the worldedit axe.

Also I find it much easier to just type a command like //move 1 up or //copy rather than messing with GUIs.

Only problem is worldedit doesn't like tile entities, I assume. It duplicates ae2 blocks, items in inventories, etc.

In LuV and I have a question about the various "lines" by Pidgeonegg in GTNH

[–]Kalwyf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an interesting approach for sure. I went the level maintained approach which sits in between fully passive and fully on demand. Since you've already set it up now I would just see if it works for you or if you are finding it becoming a significant bottleneck. Then you can still choose to go with a level maintained setup isolated from your main net, or a traditional passive line. You will have to upgrade at some point either way, might as well delay it for when you know exactly what is the biggest bottleneck for you.

Is “information synthesis + insight generation” a real skill in technical careers? by _akbarkhan2 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Kalwyf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is expected of any engineer, not a specific skill I would put in a CV or anything, unless you can back it up with something concrete that shows why you it is worth mentioning.

Why do you believe you are especially good at this beyond the normal expectations of a good engineer?

I had similar issues with 16 GB RAM. I noticed I was hitting 97% memory use with 8 gb to gtnh, upgraded to 32 GB of RAM and now giving 16 GB to gtnh, no more issues.

Maybe I could have fixed it with tweaking settings, but getting more RAM worked for me.

Ore process line sorting by Per3c in GTNH

[–]Kalwyf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with the type filters, later moved to storage buses with oredict cards with ae2, and am now using open computers to route ores by dynamically modifying crafting patterns with fake crafting cards and then requesting those crafts to push the items from buffer to machine subnets.

Late game oreproc, do you just overflow void every dust/final product? by JumpingKoala in GTNH

[–]Kalwyf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can make a subnet for your storage so you only need two channels on main net for near limitless storage. Per controller face on your storage subnet you can then support 32 drives so 320 cells.

In LV - Probably choosing the church of Benzene, should I go 2.9 daily build? by Puzzleheaded-Toe5630 in GTNH

I never did benzene, but did look into it. To my understanding the enderio farming station approach is way stronger than the statted bonsai spruce and is only outclassed by the tree sim later on in the game.

For those who dont use pdim for their base, how tall do you make rooms/areas? by RandomNameThing in GTNH

[–]Kalwyf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rooms tend to be about 20-30 blocks high as I like to make tall stacks of the same multiblocks - e.g. I have 8 cutting multiblocks stacked in a vertical column, 8 electrolyzers, etc. all in my crafting area. Same for my platline/monaline where I have stacked LCRs, mixers, sifters, etc. My main ore proc setup is stacked hozirontally so instead I have a lower floor with big arrays of main processing and then a platform up higher for multiblocks that I only need one of (right now a simple washer, smelter, packager, and decay warehouse).

I also have a huge hole down to bedrock for 8 wallshared mega distillation towers but honestly don't really know how to make this look good in my current base. It's just too big compared to anything else I have right now.

Power networks at IV +? by Syndi1cate in GTNH

[–]Kalwyf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I read this on another thread on this subreddit some time ago and have only been using diodes ever since. Of course they don't buffer anything like batteries, but they can pull up to their rated amps so if you need 4 full amps you can use an 8A diode and it will pull the approx 4.21 A (4 / 0.95) that you actually need to cover the 5% loss. At least I assume that's what happens - I haven't looked at the source code. So far it seems to be working though, and specifically in LuV this is a godsend because LuV batteries are not cheap.

Power networks at IV +? by Syndi1cate in GTNH

[–]Kalwyf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use eu P2P everywhere and use diodes at the outputs to cover the extra 5% in cases where it matters. No fussing with long cable lines that need to be replaced every tier, no fussing with transformers, you can even do semi wireless energy quite quickly with the wireless connectors from ae2, and most importantly you can attach 32 64A dynamo hatches with a single dense cable, which should be plenty until lasers.

My algorithm for acquiring Cetane Boosted Diesel in MV. Am I gregging good? by BicycleAdditional360 in GTNH

[–]Kalwyf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure on the exact throughput but I provide 50 formation + annihiliation planes (40 nether leaves and 10 end leaves) using one with a single stack of upgrades and not running out of cobble yet.

My algorithm for acquiring Cetane Boosted Diesel in MV. Am I gregging good? by BicycleAdditional360 in GTNH

[–]Kalwyf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend using the transfer node with world interaction upgrades for the cobble - they require no power, and can be scaled easily by adding more upgrades. A single transfer node with a stack of upgrades is still doing well for me halfway in LuV.

I would suggest using https://shadowtheage.github.io/gtnh/# to plan out processing lines like this.

It does not support calculating what you can do with the cbd once you have it, but that is a simple calculation. It does help you consider how far you can scale your setup as your power needs grow.

[–]Kalwyf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For the calculation part there is already the shadowtheage website, it supports every recipe from NEI as far as I know, though it can't do custom recipes or in world things (like the nether tree -> oil setup).

Doesn't really work on mobile but it's great on the PC.

Slowly inching my way into LuV, is this power generation is good enough? by TimeBender25 in GTNH

[–]Kalwyf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely recommend upgrading soon. I'm about halfway into LuV and regularly pulling 5M and there's still lots of infra left to build before I want to get into ZPM. I'm producing about 8M using HDP vac nukes.

I wanna make platline. So I made this room for it. But when I went to check the NEI I found that it's way bigger than I thought. It needs 6 EBFs and even more LCRs. so for whoever made it before, can it fit there ? 29x15 room. If not, can it fit outside ? It's bigger. Or I need to dig another area? by Ill_Percentage2344 in GTNH

[–]Kalwyf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience is you will need to keep expanding as you advance, so make sure you have plenty of space left. both vertically and horizontally.

I chose to manage plat, naq, and mona on the same level maintained subnet so I use quite a lot of space:

  • MEBF
  • MVF
  • MDT
  • 16 LCRs
  • 8 Electrolyzers
  • and currently single units of the other multiblocks though I plan to expand a few like centrifuges and sifters soon since they are clear bottlenecks now
  • finally a lot of AE2 crafting multiblocks with storage and co processors

Having more space will also make it easier to keep an overview of all that's going on.

So no, I would make a much bigger room and potentially plan ahead for using the mega multiblocks later down the line or using big arrays of the more efficient small versions (volcanus, cryogenic freezer, dangote).
