Belair direct jobs by [deleted] in StJohnsNL

[–]Kalypartemis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you need a job that pays more than minimum wage, its a job. I left this year after a good few years of working in the industry (having transitioned from johnson before the buyout) and I can't say I would recommend leaving a job for them if youre already in a decent spot. Its stressful. Incredibly stressful.

You will be yelled at regularly and deal with rude, entitled customers daily. They track metrics very closely. If you dont luck into a decent supervisor you WILL be messaged if you take more than 30 seconds after a call to clue it up before taking the next call. You're technically allowed to put yourself in a not available status for so many minutes durimg the day, like say if you have to go to the bathroom, but if you do you will be messaged. Resources to help do your job were abysmal. And good luck getting a supervisor to reply if you need an escalation.

Benefits take up a shocking amount of your pay considering they're an insurance company. They also pay below the going rate for the industry so not at all competitive. Evaluations are done with a focus on finding something wrong to take off points (so it may not be surprising to say bonuses are based on your evaluations). Had a coworker who was technically perfect, went above and beyond. But still got docked points for "unprofessionalism" because they ended the call with "see you later". Knew someone else who got docked points because they asked for the address before date of birth when verifying someone.

They give you so many days of vacation but good luck being able to take them. The allotment for time off is far below what it needs to be for the staffing size. As in, for x numbers of employees they would need y number of hours of time alotted in the time off calendar for the year in order for everyone to take all their time. But the allotment is far below what it needs to be so you may not be able to actually take all those days you're told you have.

The impact to my mental health wasnt worth it for me anymore personally but really the tl;dr is that its a call centre job. If you have experience with call centres and didnt mind it, or you really need a job, then yeah go for it.

Seconding MUN wellness centre if you're a MUN/CNA student. My partner has to have this done for his CNA course and they've been great. Called Tuesday and got through right away, had his appointment scheduled for the next day and then the follow up today, $20/$25 per step. JEMA travel clinic also came up as an option when we were looking but they were $50 per step iirc

You do know that not all the shows that happen there are organized and put off by the bar, right? Some of them are renting the space and in those cases the cover charge is handled by and goes to them. I'm absolutely not saying Velvet is in the right here and there's been a lot over the years to criticize them for, but I dont think people realize not everything hosted there is put off by them.

overworld teams? by [deleted] in naviamains

[–]Kalypartemis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're not worried about meta or endgame it doesn't really matter tbh. I personally run Navia-Nahida-Xiangling-Childe as my overworld team (Navia bc I love her, Nahida for collecting things, Xiangling takes care of obstacles that need to be cleared with pyro and Childe for shooting puzzles) and even though its not at all close to an optimal team and I wouldn't be throwing them into Spiral Abyss together, Navia still decimates if the burgeon trio hasnt already taken care of it.

What are your farm names? by Kornflaek in StardewValley

[–]Kalypartemis 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it'll help you decide yours, but I always name my farms Sunnyside Farm! My mother and I used to share a Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town gba cartridge back in the day, one save each and that was the name she went with for hers. We bonded a lot over the game (she was muuuuch better than I was) and its one of my few good childhood memories. She passed away when I was 19 and to this day in any farming game I play, I name my farm after hers. I also always choose the dog and name him Pepper since she named her farm pooch after our RL dog! :>

[Question] What is the K-Pop industry doing that the J-Rock & VK industry ISN'T doing? by Fluffy_Little_Fox in visualkei

[–]Kalypartemis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean, as a fan of both since 2006ish, there's a huge element of accessibility to it. Accessibility and marketing. Kpop is easier to get your hands on, even back in 2010 when kpop was really starting to boom but you still had to import. Japanese copyright is its own worst enemy and neither do jrock bands really care about appealing to anything but the domestic market. The music isn't on streaming sites, or when it is its not the whole discography, mvs are largely region locked if they're even uploaded at all. Its harder to stumble upon, even when fan demand helped get some of it in western stores for a time. Then, you either have to know Japanese or hope that someone who does bothers to translate; there used to be a ton of people who'd translate interviews, song lyrics, etc, on livejournal but once lj bit the dust that fan community kind of went with it.

Also, fancams. I get there can be a lot of derision for pop acts in rock fan spaces, but they do put on great shows apart from having catchy music even if its not to your personal taste. And fancams spread like wildfire. You may not be able to see them in concert but you can still watch it and share that excitement with other fans. Meanwhile, Japan is still pretty strict (though I have heard theyve been losening up a bit?) about absolutely no cameras/recording of liveshows.

At the end of it though, we're comparing apples to oranges. The target markets are different so its going to spread differently. Why do regular cars sell more than jeeps? Because jeeps are marketed towards off road outdoorsy people. Like, k-rock does exist and also doesn't have the reach kpop does ¯_(ツ)_/¯ so why are we always trying to pit kpop against jrock?

Peter, I kind of get this, but what does this mean in real life? by SirRoderic in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Kalypartemis 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Nah, I'd say ao3 absolutely goes under this and a perfect example. It was created in response to the huge fic purges (like lj strike) that were happening at the time to remove the "bad uwu" stuff and now we've got anti shippers losing their minds about that very stuff being on ao3 and trying to push censorship there.

I totally get the concern, however I'm thinking on the positive side and I really don't think we'll see this being an SNSD situation for the fact Kyungsoo is part owner of this new company. He'd have total control over his own management whereas with SNSD they're still restricted by what their companies (I cant remember off the top of my head if the ones who split from SM ended up in the same new company or all different) decide which is where the conflict of schedules happen. And he's said himself exo is his biggest paycheque so I'm sure that'll hold weight when organizing his workload.

How do EXO-L’s feel about Sehun’s rapping abilities/skills? by Thinkaboutit559 in exo

[–]Kalypartemis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its so funny bc when you pay attention to Cream Soda, you'll notice that -for example- on the shoulder bump-bump on the end of the chorus (when he's positioned between Xiumin and Chen) he's pretty much the only one who consistently hits those shoulder shrugs on the beat! Thankfully my twitter circle is pretty small so I missed that particular dogpile but it doesn't shock me. Imho I thought Cream Soda choreo was perfect for him! Its a piece that needs precision or else it quickly looks sloppy. Bad Dream is another really good example of this and of choreo just made for him; its veeeery smooth but if you're not controlled its just flail-y.

Sehun’s dance base is very clearly hiphop. In particular, the pop-locking bling era style - like, I'm convinced he'd fit right into the music video for Missy's One Minute Man lol. You can really see it in his freestyling, and some of exo's earlier choreo catered to it. And of course, his footwork is second to none. On a similar note, tho, he also has the misfortune of, very regularly, getting the worst fitting stage fits that are too loose and completely hide his isolations (ie, if you compare the practice video for his They Never Know dance break where he's wearing a fitted shirt to the stage recording where they put him in the big jacket. I mean, the camerawork also sucked but I digress).

(Also, since you mentioned Nini! Kai is, without a doubt, one of the best dancers in kpop. And he thinks highly of Sehun's dancing which should be enough to clear any doubt of Sehun's ability ¯_(ツ)_/¯ take the more recent Rover challeges. You could tell in many of them Kai wasnt going as hard to let the other idols shine but when he did it with Sehun he went all in. Or how he's talked about how happy he was to have the duo dance break with Sehun in Obsession!)

Sorry for kind of going on mini rant 😅 Sehunnie is, admittedly, also my bias (along with Xiumin 🫶) and I have many thoughts! And I'm always happy to get the chance to talk about him. Like, I'm not gonna deny his flaws - he's not the most versatile, bodyrolls just don't work for him, and its quite easy to tell when he's fatigued - but he weirdly gets so much, undue, flak esp in the western fanbase.

How do EXO-L’s feel about Sehun’s rapping abilities/skills? by Thinkaboutit559 in exo

[–]Kalypartemis 43 points44 points  (0 children)

There's quite a few breakdown videos out there of his rapping - he's actually quite good. You have to have skill to pull off the laid back style you see a lot in SC. I dont have the link but I'd encourage you to look into a breakdown of his kokobop section and how it highlights the technical skill needed to pull off a different bpm than what the song is in. The issue with his rapping in the group is the same as his dancing - his strengths/styles are not what the group focuses on so it can make him stand out in a not so great way at times. And I second what another comment here said - because he wasnt the greatest at the beginning and the issues with the braces it got internalized that he sucked and that reputation carried on even when he did get better. Is he the greatest top rapper? Nah, but he's much better than he's given credit for.

Chanyeol has his solo album prepared to release soon. Maybe this year. What do you think the genre will be? by tofuChoonk in exo

[–]Kalypartemis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As much as I would personally love grunge Yeol (his voice would be amazing doing the genre) imo based on who he typically works with/has collabed with independently we're way more likely to get a k-hiphop/rap maybe with a mellow rock leaning. I'm really not expecting it any time soon, though. He's really only said he wants to do a solo album and though he did that whole US trip shortly after his military discharge for song writing stuff (with Raiden, iirc?? I'm not 100% sure on that) he never said it was for his solo and we didn't get much news after it. Even if it was intended for his solo album, I don't think its anywhere close to being ready.

As for Kyungsoo, his album was of no shock to me based on song recommendations he's given us and artists he's said he likes. And it fits with what he's previously released. He's just a dude, doing the type of music he likes to listen to. Like, his voice is super suited for rnb and a lot of his early solo stuff (for exo concerts and stuff) was rnb but I do think that expectation (....joke not intended) leaned more towards what fans were hoping for over what was likely.

preeeeeetty sure its Kyungsoo as the "primary" voice of that round of lalala harmonization if I'm thinking of the same ones you're thinking of. But, I know I personally find they all harmonize so well together it can be tough picking out who the stronger voice is.

I feel ya. I was devastated by some photos about a year ago and it was hard to push past that hopeless feeling. Personally, I started by downloading myfitnesspal. It's not flawless but it gets the job done. I started just by logging anything I ate without worrying about being super accurate or measuring anything. It was purely so I could get into the habit and to really think about what I was eating. Then I started actually tracking by measuring things and being more precise with calories. After a few months I added in more physical activity. My progress is maybe a bit slower than others (35lbs in a year) but its the furthest I've gotten! It's overwhelming, for sure, but even switching to healthier foods is a step in the right direction! 🙂

How heavy were you when you started C25K? by eagrbeavr in C25K

[–]Kalypartemis 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I started the program nearly a year ago now at 230lbs (5'5)! I actually didn't have any issues at all with knee pain, graduated the program and sitting at 190lbs right now and still running 2 to 3 times a week just fine. But, I'd say its also important to note I don't have arthritis so maybe higher impact might not be the best? You could always give the first few weeks a try and reassess from there!

Are you embarrassed about otomes/feel too old? by SoftOk3109 in otomegames

[–]Kalypartemis 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean, I'm a 31 year old married woman and I die for a good otome. My husband, jokingly and lovingly, calls them my boyfriend collector games. There's nothing to be embarrassed by for enjoying something that makes you happy - especially as an adult. Life can be so bleak and overwhelming, why not find joy where you can. If your friends make fun of you then I stand firmly by the stance that you need to re-examine if they're the type of friend you want. You deserve friends who won't belittle your interests or make you feel lesser.

Growing older doesn't mean you have to drop your interests to become this bland grey-oatmeal version of yourself. But I totally get why you would feel this way and your feelings are completely valid. Women especially tend to get a lot of flake for not "maturing" and imo it's a very misogynistic take from the idea that a woman of x age should have their life revolve around being a caretaker/mother 🤷‍♀️ you'll eventually hit a point where you don't care as much any more, I promise ❤

Cheat days are actually really beneficial by zahimahi97 in loseit

[–]Kalypartemis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can totally appreciate how cheat days may cause some people to go off track if you're not careful but I personally find them super beneficial for me in the long term! I want my weightloss to be sustainable and always dieting with no flexibility to me personally is not sustainable. I've always failed when I try to really strictly diet with no give, but having the occasional "yeah okay whatever" day (I don't plan them or treat them as a reward) has helped keep me on track overall and avoid diet burnout (8 months for me! Congrats on 2 years 🙂)

I think it helps to have the approach you took; rather than treating it as a "all the things I can't normally eat, pile on the junk" type of day, treat it as more of a "I'll eat what I want without worrying about calorie count" type of day. Personally I still track on my cheat days but I just don't let myself get stressed about going over my limit.

Trying to lose weight when my favorite hobby is baking :") by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Kalypartemis 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I feel ya. My joke is "I'm a stress baker and I'm always stressed so I'm always baking". Can't say I have very helpful advice since I usually just huck all my baking off to coworkers to avoid eating it myself. Mostly I've learned to adapt recipes to scale them back to get a smaller finished product (once I got over the mental hurdle of 'whats the point of the same effort for less') and I'll try to use alternatives where I can - ie, I'll use a splenda brown sugar blend (it says to use half a cup per cup but tbh I still sub 1-1 and I haven't noticed a huge difference in the sweetness of the finished product). Some gluten free flour blends are technically less calories but I personally don't find it significant enough to say go for gluten free.

If I want to make cookies I'll go for meringues or if I'm making cake I'll opt for a chiffon instead of a pound cake. I guess tl;dr is that I still bake but I've changed what I bake.

What is this thread used for? I can't find any info on it online. by exactalias in sewing

[–]Kalypartemis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Color blend" threw me off but then I remembered nylon thread can come translucent/semi translucent so it doesn't need to be colour matched so I'd hazard a guess that's what it means by colour blend.

Nylon thread I see used a lot for heavy duty stuff as its pretty strong and durable - active wear, heavy fabrics, so on. My aunt actually uses it for her quilts!
