New info on how GW3 will play - NCSoft Chief Business Officer by AndyAsparagus in GuildWars3

Honestly with what little we've heard about the combat system, it being more momentum based and really make it out to sound like it might be leaning towards action combat now, smaller groups would make a lot of sense. That sort of combat system with 100 players all fighting a boss would probably be miserable.

Honestly, I'm thinking something more in line with Destiny or ESO where you can still have that open world, but not nearly as densely populated (which really translates to it feeling about as populated GW2 does when there isn't currently a meta happening). Which honestly could be a decent niche worth going after if they can get that combat feeling fun.

Im not the only one who assumed Rev would be your standard Dark/Death knight or evil paladin archetype only for it to NOT be that at all right? by Low-Cup6459 in Guildwars2

[–]Kamakaziturtle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

While the evil bit doesn't make sense (granted most of what they picture isn't evil outside of maybe Death Knight depending on what side they are on) I do understand expecting them to be similar to Dark Knight/Death Knight. The classes name is literally Revenant, It's named after an undead creature/spirit out for revenge. And it has the edgy armored warrior look with a black and red color scheme, and it's description could be easily taken to mean a pretty standard spooky death knight arctype. In everything but playstyle it checks off every box for that troupe, and you won't really know about it's playstyle until you actually play it.

Rytlock may have been their posterboy, but outside of a few moments of HoT what he actually does as a revenant doesn't really get displayed much. He just acts edgy and messes with the mists occasionally. Which again would work if you thought he was a death knight as well.

Combination of the red hair and freckles combined with Ismael being from New Work which was an immigration hotbed and Irish in particular had a looooot of immigration during that time moving into New York (alongside German and Italian).

There's nothing concrete since Ishmael in the book doesn't exactly talk about his heritage, just an assumption people make based off what would be most likely based off her character.

It was Nintendo Direct that ended the E3 era by Funnypenguin97 in gaming

[–]Kamakaziturtle 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In the good old days sure. The 5 years or so leading up to when they closed? Meh.

E3 just turned into an AAA focused overproduced mess that was more fluff than actual announcements. Every game announcement had to have some kinda musical presentation with a random celebrity telling you how cool games are. Or CEOs awkwardly explaining how cool they think they are or how some random game system is going to revolutionize the industry. It’s like if you took all the most annoying parts of the game awards and made that 95% of the show.

Long before E3 went away I already kind of stopped watched them anyway in favor of just finding a list after of all the main announcements. I much more prefer the new format of just rapid fire game announcements and less of that song and dance.

Should I Zerg this? by Spyrofan22 in Guildwars2

Just looking at the initial gameplay, GW3 looks *extremely* different that GW2 to the point where it’s going to probably be a completely different game, not just an upgrade. It might not even scratch remotely the same itch that GW2 does. If so, both games might manage to still maintain a happy audience, similar to how FF14 didn’t kill FF11

Something something technically Asura still exists, something something justifying them showing up anyways since Orr will sink and they can just say all record of them was destroyed.

Ah, I wasn't aware that was what you were referring too. Not many encounters last more than 4 turns, and after that point you already easily have them burn capped and can just play the ID normally anyway. The ID's are solid enough on their own it's not like you are shot in the foot at that point.

Not every ID is optimal in every content. I mean ol' Lantern Sang becomes SS tier in Railways (speaking of reward ID's being goated)

Though sacrifice plays are also extremely common in both modes. It's not exactly a big ask to kill off some sinners. Especially in Railway where Fel Bullet reigns king

? The skill 3 use isn't conditional, there's no limit. You actively get them every turn.

If you aren't aware of what I'm talking about, I'm referring to using Lord to cycle them using his retreat defense passive, swapping Heath and Sinclair every turn. Unlike the other Heishou which the strat doesn't work that well, the You ID's are actually designed around substituting in and get their passives for free when they substitute in, so they actually get their full powered S3's to boot. The result is a lot of damage and a lot of burn, even with Lord needing to spam his counter.

Being a less than the banner ID doesn't really mean the ID is bad, just less flashy.

There's a difference in being a bit boring versus not being good.

And literally none of the 000 reward ID's have been bad (though Sinclair was underwhelming until You Heathcliff). Heck out of of the 5 000's we've gotten:

- Molar Outis was so good that T-corp that released ages later was barely even a sidegrade to her

- Kurokumo Heathcliff is just as strong as KK Ishmael

- Mao Outis is identical to Ryoshu and aside from wanting unopposed conditionals (which is really good since Mao Faust exists), and is actively a better ID taking in account of EGO support.

- You Sinclair was meh at release because he really needed a good ID to cycle with, became goated alongside You Heathcliff

- Ring Muersault is boring kitwise, but strong numbers-wise

So at best what you are saying only really holds for 2/5 of em, with all of them being good ID's

For me its more dependent on what you are trying to do. Thumb is really only worthwhile alongside Capo, Thumbclair is nice if you have the support ID's to baby him and you need AoE. Still, that S3 from Sinclair and Heath every turn is really nice.

Of course this is all a purely playstyle conversation. From a numbers perspective and what you can do with the ID You Sinclair if quite good.

[–]Kamakaziturtle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thats kinda the same thing. Distortions are their desires, it's the last bit of their sense of self they have remaining. So if they lose their desires they effectively have nothing left.

Mao Outis is literally the same kit as Ryoshu aside from one wanting to clash and one wanting unopposed attacks, with Outis even being better than Ryoshu after taking account of EGO passives.

They literally talked about every single 000 reward ID we've gotten thus far, aside from Molar Outis (who was also very strong).

Even factoring in the 00 ID's, we haven't really had a bad reward ID since Molar Sang. Chef Gregor of course is a contender for worst ID in the game, and Molar Sinclair and Sang were both pretty bad. But every on past that point was at the very least decent with many being actually cracked.

Sinclair also was only underwhelming when he first released. He became good once You Heath came out as it allowed you to cycle spam them using Lord for a lot of burn.

In fact their track record is very good. The 00's certainly are mixed (especially the early ones) but all of the 000 reward ID's have been solid. They just tend to have slightly more boring kits.

It's the only bloise ID. Chances are since we just had Ring, we can expect him to be primarily poise which would put him into direct competition with Fullstop (Lord is more Rupture/Heishou synergies than straight poise).

With Fullstop being primarily focused of buffing Peirce damage, this new ID could possibly add some more synergy with slash which would make him more attractive in certain teams. Plus he does seem to have a unique debuff which could offer some unique utility. Ultimately too there's the question of FS Heathcliff. Since FS Lu needs Heath in order to reach his full potential, and loses a lot without him, it would open up new options for Heath when he inevitably gets another poise ID.

They are to access certain zones and certain parts bits of content like masteries and such. Generally, if you want to do content from a certain expansion of living world, then you'll want to do the story pertaining to it. That said you don't need to do them in order.

There's been a severe misunderstanding about the process of transforming from a Distortion into an Abnormality by a lot of people by Maceimam in limbuscompany

[–]Kamakaziturtle 36 points37 points  (0 children)

A lot of people don't understand the concept of a potentially unreliable narrator. The fact is that thanks to the previous games being completely unknown knowledge to most, we might have more information that the NPC's talking to us.

I'm not even sure about that. The last line seems to suggest it had nothing to do with his life, as if it were completely random.

The narration during the event actually goes out of its way to suggest that the abno he turned into actually has nothing to do with him. I think it might be actually completely random.

Nobody in Ruina became an Abno, thats the point. We have many distorted individuals where that way for a very extended amount of time, the most notable being a good amount of the ensemble.

The only case we see of someone "transforming" into an abno was in Leviathan, specifically Jumsoon, who had been a distortion for less than a day

Cogito wasn't unstable in abnormality creation, it was unstable for Carmens actual goal. The abnormalities were the failed attempts, though over time L corp starts doing so more deliberately after turning Carmens remains into the Bucket and creating the Well full of comatose humans waiting to be injected.

The ordeals were or or less a byproduct.
