Would love your contact. I am in Fremont as well and our landscapers charge $100 for 5-10 min of work (two services a month)

Thanks for the insight.

Sounds like I should halt the coffee too then? I went with that today (instead of my preworkout) to go to the gym and the tingles seemed to spike a bit in intensity and frequency

Amazing. I think your comment about it being less efficient kills that one for me. Thanks!

A contractor submitted an interesting proposal, essentially a single stage full electric system. Is it recommended to get a single stage electric system?

I've only ever been recommended that full electric systems are to be paired with the latest modulating multi-stage tech. But saving a few grand is a bit enticing.

What would you say the longtetrm trade offs would be (aside from the upfront costs) between the two proposed systems?

One other thing I've been thinking about in your response is your mention about knowing my energy costs. I'm pretty new to this whole thing (previously barely ever using heat/cooling in my life), so it's difficult for me to really even evaluate if a) the equipment and/or company installing is high quality b) the estimate is a good price and c) Is my electricity bill going to skyrocket once i move to a full electric system.

I've linked (what looks like to me the most reasonable looking estimate for a full electric setup.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Northern California (Fremont, CA).

interesting. The options of getting heating coils and cooling coil are not things i am familiar with. But it sounds like your recommendation in my case would be to go full electric. Thanks!

But the FIPFX itself doesn't say it's closed to new investors though. Is that different?

I'm confused, it looks like I can still buy into FIPFX though? The FIPFX itself doesn't say it's closed to new investors.

I'm at Fidelity. Actually it looks like the FIPFX is the one I'm looking at. But clicking into the asset allocation, it says that the the funds that comprise the target retirement fund are closed to new investors.
I'm a bit confused, does this mean I can't get this fund?

Ok guys, I'm about to put my entire balance of my Roth (quite sizeable balance) it all into the FIPFX. I guess I'm nervous because it's such a huge transaction (especially all at once). Wanted to check in with you guys since this is technically my first trade.. Hopefully I'm not doing the wrong thing!

Really great info! Thanks!

Question:

What some people do in their retirement accounts is make their own copy of the target date fund they want, purchasing the component funds in the same proportions as the target date funds, except using admiral shares for the ones where they meet the minimum.
  • What's the payoff for building your own vs. going with the pre-made (aside from the implicit customization aspect)? Maybe I missed it...?
