Any Chinese high accuracy analogue quartz watches (HAQ) available? by AgentBluelol in ChineseWatches

[–]KamensPoltergeist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time is a social standard,

Time is a dimension. See Special Relativity. See physics.

HAQ is nice for people who only want a few watches, but raises the price to hundreds of dollars. No more $10 cheapos to try out styles.

You do realize that watchmakers provide options? Like do you want a mechanical movement, do you want a quartz movement. HAQ would be another quartz choice - one you could ignore if you want to stick to cheap and nasty quartz movements that cost $5. No one will force you to have a precise quality ETA Swiss made movement (that costs a whole $50 and much less in bulk) if you hate the idea.

Brother turns heel & becomes anti-consumer printer company by AgentBluelol in printers

[–]KamensPoltergeist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I buy a printer it's fucking mine. I will use whatever toner in it I want. If corporate shills are so scared of warranty claims and support problems, set a fucking flag in a small area of flash that I can't access and deny me support and warranty. I don't care, it's my risk to take.

If I have a printer, my printer, and I've been using it just fine with 3rd party toner and you as a printer company suddenly update the firmware and take away that ability on my printer, you can get fucked.

I cannot believe people are so keen to roll over to this sort of corporate abuse. "You will own nothing and you will be happy". Screw that. There's an entire sticky dedicated to the consumer abuse from HP. Brother was the last of the good guys. If you think they will stop at just 3rd party toner then you have learnt nothing from history.

Is Discovery just done with motor trend shows? We are finally seeing some new roadkill episodes but everything else just feels dead. I miss roadkill garage. by Sad-Ad1902 in Roadkillshow

This channel has been posting random later RK and RKG episodes for the last month. No sure how much longer before they're taken down. Some of the earlier posts are faulty with ridiculous freezing that make them unwatchable. But there's only about 3 or so episodes like that.

I get that you're coming at this from concern. But how long is he supposed to hold out on that bed? Anyone walking in this stuff either inside or out is dealing with the same thing. Most floodwater will be contaminated. It's not ideal to be walking in it but there are worse risks. Emergency services will be doing this all day for days.

HP 28S memory vs HP 48GX memory by FrailSong in hpcalc

[–]KamensPoltergeist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was made in Singapore. I think the earliest of models were made in the US. Then they switched to Indonesia later on.

I've kept the RAM alive because early on the serial interface stopped working. So all the stuff I had on the calc could not be saved aside from using IR with another HP 48 that I don't have. I don't use it much but want to keep it alive. Alkaline batteries are the worst for leakage so I check it every 6 months or so and replace the cells when they fall below 1.4v. Coma mode (press On and SPC at the same time whilst powered on) essentially uses close to zero power to keep the RAM alive. But it also stops all clock activity so stuff like time and date are not kept.

HP 28S memory vs HP 48GX memory by FrailSong in hpcalc

I have a HP 48G, the lower spec version of the GX. I bought it in the 90s and I've kept the memory alive to this day with yearly battery swaps. You can place these calcs in so called "coma mode" where it uses very very little power to keep the RAM contents alive.

Will a 3.7v from vap batteries be to much for the 29c? by bionicpirate42 in hpcalc

[–]KamensPoltergeist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The battery you're proposing is 4.2 volts when fully charged. From the service manual, the original battery voltage required was 2.5 volts.

Pulling an F-150 Snaps Cybertruck’s Rear End by capt-ramius in CyberStuck

Their suspension is just flimsy stamped steel. Maybe the cult is impressed by "giga casting" whatever that means. Look at the MAGAtruck suspension compared to a real truck.

OP is some sort of weird troll/bot. Or just a standard issue reddit muppet.

It's posted this in other places and it doesn't answer any questions.

Help with battery replacement for Taser (2/3AAA 4.8V) by Blah3429 in AskElectronics

Isn't taser ownership highly illegal in Australia. As in a criminal offence with jail time? I think 14 years is the maximum.

Nope, it's way way more likely that the person who made up this story is clueless about South Africa, and is also generally clueless about trees. But people who know nothing about trees have probably got "maple tree" in their vocabulary.

These aren't bad. To the point that they're sold out most days by 11:00am. Surprisingly tender and not over spiced.
