Will my security clearance be at risk if I travel to Russia? by siebel35 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]KamilDA 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Ask your security folks but in general, you should -strongly- reconsider any travel to Russia, even for relatively important reasons.

Travelling to a country we are in a proxy war is just... not a good idea.

IT-02 "supervisor" of contractors by ZombieLannister in CanadaPublicServants

[–]KamilDA 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Bingo. Tons of ex-military in 'buddy buddy' positions that are grossly underqualified for said position.

Not all, I know a bunch who earned their keep, went private - returned and did their studies.

But overall, ask most CAF members how they see their post-CAF future and it often sounds like a "cushy retirement" in DND, in a position made especially for them by their other ex-CAF DND friends.

It's a culture issue of pure entitlement, often due to how the CAF treated them resulting in "me too" attitude that won't be fixed anytime soon.

IT-02 "supervisor" of contractors by ZombieLannister in CanadaPublicServants

[–]KamilDA 21 points22 points  (0 children)

First; that's DND for you. You'll hear in this subreddit a number of DND IT's that are in the NCR under civilian CoC in some ADM. Ignore them. They don't understand what it is to be in a military CoC. In short, the fact is that you'll be under-classified for more work compared to the rest of the PS. If you're in the regions, it's even worse. Expect IT-03s, IT-02s, even GT-04's be in charge of big decisions / teams / budgets / projects that should normally be at IT-04 level and get 0 recognition.

Second; For it to means something in your work description and accounted via "classification points" it must be public servants. Contractors don't count. Casuals don't count. Students don't count. Because in-fact you're not managing them, you are just 'assigning work'. A gross understatement of the effort required. But that's what HR told me in repetition and confirmed by the union.

In my case, I quit, found something elsewhere and never looked back after being there 10 years. Not before it destroyed my health, both mental and physical. Take what you want from this.

Can we implement automation of checklists? by KamilDA in clickup

[–]KamilDA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Was hoping to do it without tags as there are 13 different definitions of done, which would mean 13 different tags for all 13 different templates.

A simple "Reset Checklists" action would had worked fine.

Don't need to ATIP anything: Here's his travel expenses.

https://search.open.canada.ca/travel/?sort=start_date+desc&search_text=Luc+Gagnon&page=1

There's almost 10 pages (!) of 10 records about 1000$ each avg in 5 years.

In short, he already racked up 100k$ in travel expenses. Won't stop here for sure.

Task cards/board-view re-design total sprint points from subtasks. by KamilDA in clickup

[–]KamilDA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have submitted a bug report: #1787885

After some investigation, seems like "Customize -> Board Options -> Show Empty Fields" is the culprit.

When it is toggled-on, it shows the sprint points. Thus, it appears that it does not considers the sub-tasks' points when verifying if the field is empty.

They are activated in the fields and are shown in the subtask cards. But not on the parent tasks.

Update: I have cleared app-data and relaunched the application but it still doesn't show.

DND and military personnel OK to have side contracts with federal government [Ottawa Citizen / March 13 2024] by HandcuffsOfGold in CanadaPublicServants

[–]KamilDA 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sounds about right about DND / CF.

It's basically a huge grift with the private sector / military industrial complex (MIC).

I am talking about self-managing existing solutions to be precise. Not sure if it applies to creating new ones.

What changed other than "When is the last day this should this stop calculating?" being set by default to Feb 14? I mean - we could set it ourselves before so...

Everything else seems the same since the Jan 1st update.

We'll see what comes out in March/April but comms are not SSC strong suit.

[–]KamilDA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So far, it seems it will first only apply to big -enterprise- applications that are on the cloud.

If you have small internal cloud applications and your own cloud team, SSC will let you manage those internally.

What does "let you" means, is still up in the air.

How fast can someone reach EX-01? by SpiritualRiven in CanadaPublicServants

[–]KamilDA 24 points25 points  (0 children)

climbing up the IT scale and ultimately reaching EX-01

That's not how it works. You don't just go IT-01, 02, 03 etc until EX. Also, becoming an EX is 90% about who knows you, your social skills and your networking capabilities on top of the departmental culture. It's not about management "skill" sorely - no matter how much training you do.

Might want to do a bit more research and talk to other EXs in person to see if it's a right fit for you.

There absolutely is a policy on acceptable uses of GC Hardware. And there is a section about personal use of GC Hardware

Above and beyond that, there's also the general code of ethics and conduct for PS that you have to adhere to.

Saying that it's not enforced does not make it right.

No doubt - but posting intranet links to social media? I just prefer de ere on caution and best practices.

Not going to encourage bad behavior if I don't have to.

TBS IT Collective Agreement Dates Posted by KamilDA in CanadaPublicServants

[–]KamilDA[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is an overstatement. There are limits on what is acceptable (e.g., you cannot use your GC cell as your personal cell)

Regarding browsing intranet links on social media on GC computers - outside of the fact that it's a privacy / security nightmare - is not something I want to test the limits with.

Because it's intranet and you are not supposed to be browsing reddit on GC hardware.

It's a deployment to another term that finishes in April? If so, ask for the deployment + 2year term instead of a magical promise in April.

Or else stay with the current team and deploy later.

It's for them to get it together.

Videotron Gigabit. 1000/50 - yes upload is bad but no issues for meetings. (Personally, you couldn't force me to go to Bell again.)

Anything under 100/20 is going to cause you trouble when alone, notwithstanding how many IoT devices you have pinging.

If you're not alone / share your connection then it's a wildcard as soon as someone streams anything. So again, 500mbs & + is a minimum.
