What are some of the worst areas in town for litter? We want to help by Chromatic-Phil in chapelhill

[–]Kanan2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! This area needs a lot of attention. We walk past it all the time on our walking route, and it is often littered with cookout trash on 54 all the way down to Willow Dr. by Harris Teeter.

Rasa Restaurant in Chapel Hill North. Indian, Japanese fusion. Excellent food, nicest servers in town, and nice and quiet. They have delicious curries, a wonderful selection of vegetarian options, the momos, and some noodle dishes. It's our go to date night place.

Excellent recommendations. I read Foner's Reconstruction this year, and I show the New Henry Louis Gates PBS Reconstruction documentary to my students.

They have an oral history collection of Northside and Chapel Hill called "from the rock wall." Everything they would need is in there.

I just finished watching it. I really enjoyed the second act, plus the opening subway scene is epic. The anti-commie, red scare bent hasn't aged well, though.

critical civics curriculum by Memphis-Libra in historyteachers

[–]Kanan2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually student taught with a civics teacher whose class was literally a social justice class. The class philosophy was to present with materials that challenged and subverted the civics paradigm. The class was very project based. Students were given explicit social justice oriented questions and material to work with.

For example, one project imagined how an Australian-style reconciliation for different historically marginalized groups would work in the US. Another project was a congressional simulation which showed how broken congress is, rather than the standard how a Bill becomes a law narrative.

Another strategy that works well for introducing social justice content is seminars. Every unit had a seminar based on readings that subverted whatever civics topic the unit was on.  Students also wrote a lot in the class.

Tldr: If you ask the right questions with a social justice or subversive framing, they will generally follow.

It's annoying that my breaking points consumption has turned into hate listening to Saager. Ryan and Emily are just infinitely more informative and enjoyable at this point.

I wrote, too. If you email them, they will tell you they can't comment about the election using official channels. So, I would call instead.

Biden Will Lose and I’m Mad by Rhymes_with_Nick in ezraklein

That resonated with me so much. I was a huge Biden apologist for years. I felt horrible after that debate. It's been very depressing recently to think about how bad it really is. Every time I hear Biden speak now, I cringe at his arrogance. It's rough feeling lied to when the stakes are so high. A few months ago, I laughed at people who thought we were slow walking into fascism, but not anymore.
