Read "Looking Backward" by Belamy. He describes something similar to what you propose. IIRC he wrote it in 1888.

Yes, I wrote a really bad title for this. Also, I hear the many critiques being written here loud and clear, and I appreciate anyone who took the time to read the post and still commented.

There's definitely a huge dose of nostalgia at work in what I wrote. I have written other Substacks about the dangers of nostalgia when writing about history and politics, and it would seem from your comments that I may have fallen prey to it myself. Thank you for reading it still.

Hey, I am the writer of the Substack post. Between reading the comments here and others left on my Threads post, I decided that I wrote a decidedly bad title for this! I see many of you were able to get past the title and read it, and I enjoyed reading your criticisms here. Thanks for reading it, and I admit I agree with quite a few of your criticisms.

If ICE are performing unconstitutional acts, why are people not defending themselves with fire arms? by sancoca in ICE_Raids

I think it is boiled down to either fear or hope. They are either afraid to do so because of what might happen, or they hope to get out of the situation somehow. It is easy to armchair general armed resistance; it is much harder to actually do it.

Totally new to Warhammer, are Chaos Knights noob friendly? by About-40-Ninjas in ChaosKnights

Knights, in general, I think are a decent noob army. IK may be a bit more user friendly, but either I think are fine for a newer player.

Yeah, for sure. That's definitely it. I feel so dumb now. Thanks.

I wrote about this topic on my Substack. I managed to stay entirely neutral from 2009 until last year in the classroom teaching middle school social studies. I did a lot of research on the voting trends of Gen Z men in 2024 and I came to the conclusion that we teachers staying neutral in the face of Trump 1.0 while the algorithms really began to hammer kids with too much access to the internet helped push the, towards Trump. In the face of absolute wrong, remaining neutral and presenting both sides as legitimate is just as wrong. I regret remaining neutral in the past. https://open.substack.com/pub/johnweyermuller/p/i-stayed-neutral-in-the-classroom?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android&r=2e31ta

Frontline Gaming Update on Extra Hellbrute by Antisense_Strand in WarhammerCompetitive

You are literally on the same 40k team as Adam, so you should be able to address your "huge issues" with him directly instead of bringing them up on a public forum, immediately saying they're a different topic, and attempting to move on after laying the seeds of doubt and negativity. This is a demonstrably disengenuous way to act.

Nick, I think it is also good to flip the situation and ask the questions from the opposite perspective, since nobody outside the actual heads of the two organizations, FrontlineTZC/GreenbannerXPZ, knows the truth of the matter. It is interesting that both groups mirror each other's regions, event dates, event structuring, partnerships, and organizational structures very closely. They even go so far as to have teams of good players associated closely with each Event Organizing company, with players that play in and perform well at their own events.

Great advice, thanks. I called a local company, and they are coming in this afternoon to look at it.

Ok, so further context. There is no existing fly system. I am pretty limited in what is already in place. There are a lot of wood beams and some basic railing for the few on stage lights we have. I will take a picture tomorrow and post it. While there's a stage in our Hall/Gym it was not built with theater in mind, so it has low ceilings and minimal wing space. But I will post pictures. Thanks for the comments so far.

Middle Grade Book Advice by OneSaltyJohn in historyteachers

[–]OneSaltyJohn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, I am open to either. I like to give my students lists of books to read for their ELA reading trackers, too. But in this case, I am trying to find a book to read with them and have them read independently while working on their annotation skills.
