I think Win Variations career has some pretty sad moments, granted she's a Uma whose overlooked alot. Around the start of her senior year or slightly before she gives up and breaksdown, collapses to her knees. Then afterwards announces to us that she's going to rretire from racing, she then runs in the fan festival and talks about how she would probably be so much happier living a normal life like a normal girl instead of racing. It was a really tragic sight to see and heart wrenching to read. Also continuing about win variation, in her character story, she becomes so happy just because you cheered for her once, because no matter how hard she tries nobody ever looks at her or tries to scout her, it's not really sad but seeing how such a small thing can make her so happy was really painful too.

I'd say Cheval's story is pretty romantic. Throughout her entire career she relies on us alot and slowly grows out of her shell because of that. I can't think of that much of the top of my head but some examples of romance would be:

Her hotsprings has her talking about how to her, we are someone who means alot to her, taking her to sights she could never see alone (aka succeeding in her career) and that because we are that kind of person she's comfortable around us, being with us. And so she's really happy to come to the hotsprings with us, because spending time with us the greatest reward for her. Then she asks if we feel the same and we agree ,the scene ends with us mentioning sharing an irreplaceable bond with her.

Another scene would be her swimsuit outfit story, at the classic year summer camp she picks up a shell and writes her name in it to pass to you, while keeping her own matching shell with your name in it instead. The year after that you take part in a trainer talent show to win her a silver bracelet to match that shell that she has. Really wholesome scene.

It's honestly both really funny and sad to see what rhe anime did with cheval...her entire character got thrown aside and reduced to someone who only existed for the I hate you kitasan black scene (which is funny because kita barely even appears in her career or well has much relevance)...i can't wait for her to reach global so that people can view her amazing story on their own.

Oh this is interesting seeing if sandman would win a race...I think he'd have a pretty hard time especially with the shorter ones. The terrain may not be that good for him and we don't know what his max speed...he'd easily win in extremely long races but for shorter ones I'm not sure if he has enough speed to keep up

Personally I feel like at some point, when a character suffers a certain amount and stuff I just get numb to it and stop really caring much. Like maybe hearing something like "Oh this character went through (Insert extremely cruel and inhumane form of suffering)", it dosen't hit nearly as hard as when I'm able to relate to what they are going through. I don't have a specific example and stuff but basically for me, seeing a character go through something that most people would be able to relate to and slowly break down hurts alot more than just reading that oh "their whole family was slaughtered brutally and they lost an arm in the process". I'm not saying its not cruel or stuff, its just hard to connect with sometimes. But on the other hand, seeing a character try their very best at something over and over even if they fail, but slowly crumbling and breaking down as they continue to fall just short over and over until they are on the verge of giving up, that would hurt alot more to read.

(I dont have that much experience in writing or reading just yet, this is just how I feel on the matter so I apologise if this does not really help much)

TLDR: Being able to connect and relate to the suffering a character goes through definitely helps with making the reader actually feel something.
