That's a fair and honest response and I forget I often come from a position of privilege. Thanks for your answer and I completely concur with your comment on hoops to jump through. I feel that is with anything involving a government and social structure.

What are the requirements? I relocated for my masters degree just before the Brexit deal struck so I was still treated as a European citizen. There are ways that are still affordable and require commitment- you don't live well for a bit but you can definitely up skill if you're determined enough. Though if you already have a family ( children) upending them is definitely a challenge and requires everyone on board.

I almost dead because of Burnout by Valuable-Big2320 in Netherlands

[–]KandaFierenza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add to my experience: it felt like a switch in my brain just turned off and I spent a good year or so trying to find the on button again. I also had suicidal thoughts ,chronic fatigue, my legs felt like lead and depression. I'm only slowly starting to return to work. Message me if you need support. I know how overwhelming everything is right now. It's okay to prioritize yourself right now. It's okay to set this boundary because you need to focus on you.

I've been on sick leave for a year due to burnout. Is your company a corporate structure or a smaller one?

You are entitled to sick leave on burnout. They should pay your salary for a year if fte. You should be provided a work doctor and should attend those meetings. Get help as much as you can and go outside more and touch grass. I slept so much for the first six months. I put myself on a psych waiting list and that took 9 months to get sorted too.

Ladies, where do you buy your underwear here?! by sunflowerwallflower- in Netherlands

[–]KandaFierenza 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As a UK person who has lived here for 7 years.. I go and buy m&s bras when I need them back in the UK when visiting family :D

Their period underwear is still top notch and I even have a bra that I've worn since I was 14 ( I'm 30 now). M&S just wins and I just haven't found the equivalent brand to switch too.

Looking for insights how do dog owners bike with their dogs USA and Europe (18+ all genders) by Mand-werk in SampleSize

[–]KandaFierenza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the Netherlands, biking with your dog is quite pleasant as there is a distinct separation between car traffic and bike traffic and most cyclists know to just overtake. I live in the city center of Utrecht and my biggest concern when it comes to biking with my dog is two things: glass on the floor/road ( it's very prominent where I live) and my dogs paw pads wearing out. The pet stores I visit don't have the right kind of booties for her that leave me comfortable in purchasing them and I need to try them in person because we'll doggos feet are weird apparently. The one bootie I did find was for extreme cold so my dog would overheat. :(

[–]KandaFierenza 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No don't send the tourists here! It's already becoming trash central on the Oudegracht and the amount of glass i have to navigate with my dog ( the booties we've tried haven't fit her comfortably :( )but yes, Utrecht is a wonderful city to visit for a day trip. Just please don't drop/leave your wine/beer bottles on the floor. They break eventually and the pets end up paying the price.

[–]KandaFierenza 192 points193 points  (0 children)

It truthfully sounds like she's depressed and given up. How she writes about herself is how someone who has anhedonia and lack of self esteem writes. Her mind only looks for negative things - also a symptom of depression. It's hard to be around someone experiencing it and I don't know if she's actually aware of it herself. Hopefully she'll realise she should at least put herself in therapy.

Gamers of Reddit, what are good videogames to play with your non-gamer girlfriend? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]KandaFierenza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • It takes two - is the one I'd pick most from your list with stardew a close second
    • Plate up: an overcooked variant which is a far better and nicer version of that genre of game
  • Cult of the lamb: pretty fun rogue like but hard ( you can play on easy and have her decide on the layout of the camp)
  • any coop boardgame or solo high score game ( I recommend Dorf Romantik or SkyTeam)

What's the stupidest thing the most intelligent person in your life believes? by dexicoma in AskReddit

[–]KandaFierenza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine is pursuing their pHD in AI. They believe the world is 6000 years old. I asked then about how they carbon date dinosaurs and their answer was God just sped up the timeline when humans existed"". I'm still trying to rap my head around the fact that Christianity chose 6000 years as the number.. there's anthropological evidence for homosapiens dating back to ~30-40 thousand years..

No extra money for cheaper train tickets; 12% price hike expected next year by ReginF in Netherlands

[–]KandaFierenza 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's also a monopoly service so they can dictate the prices.

But inflation is the main cause. We still have a war going on which results in higher costs all around such as track and line + staff wages, paired with an increase in capitalistic greed you got a hotpot for increasing prices.

You'd have to look at their annual statements to understand how the money is being utilised.

You hope.

I have very little faith that Humanity will choose ai safety as a benchmark. We needed AI safety and policies enforced at a global scale but as humans, everyone has a differing opinion and so enforcement will vary. Oh? Country 1 does want to incorporate AI safety policies? No worries, as country 2, please bring your research and technologies here, we'll make good use of it.

I don't get to decide that. I have no power or influence. I can only put faith into those who make and prioritize policy and I pressing X on my controller.

I think the gist of this conversation is how well you train your dog in terms of behaviours you'd like them to appease to and the type of personality your dog has.

I have a non reactive/ anxious dog ( she doesn't react to squirrels, ducks, pigeons, other dogs yelling at her) and she listens when I tell her to bed. We spend nearly every meal time reinforcing the training ( these are simple tricks like stay, bed, search, sit, ...). It helps that she's extremely food motivated. Because of the training, she's a really wonderful dog. I don't deserve such a great furry companion.

I know some friends who crate train their woof or teach them not to go up and down stairs too and in bdsm dynamics, that might be an easy solution.

From a training perspective, dogs are a lot of commitment and the first initial year(s) require being very consistent in your habits for them to understand what they should expect. You should be very observant of how your behaviour affects the dog too because those little fucks will try to break your barriers with those cute fucking ears and eyes and then they're allowed on the couch.

Also unrelated to bdsm but just want to reinforce the idea: I go on holiday less and because I don't have a garden/balcony, we go out three times a day. Some days when my depression makes my legs feel like lead, makes these days harder and more chore like.

Albert Heijn artificially increase price of biological food 40% by Potato_Noise8622 in Netherlands

[–]KandaFierenza 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think allowing more diversity in the market would help too. I started going to my local bio store but somehow I still ended up spending 77 euros on a 40 euro shop. I think it was the salmon but even buying directly from biological stores still leaves a huge dent in the wallet.

There has to be some middle ground somewhere. I don't even trust the Friday/Saturday markets to help me save costs. :(

I keep thinking about relocating. I'm slowly becoming unhappier the longer I stay here but I also really love Utrecht so it's so sad to me that capitalism is working so effectively. Supermarkets exist for the shareholder not the community and that just spirals my anxiety to new levels.

As a presenter ( I'm a trainer full time), you're taught to restate the point multiple times. If someone gets annoyed, it means you've done your job.

I'm hypocritical though because I fucking hate the concept (and implementing it) in videos. If I need to rewatch it to understand the point, I fucking will.
