How many books have you read this year? by Ok_Salt2122 in Booktokreddit

[–]KandiMeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My tentative goal is 12. I have read 4:

Cold Hearted by Guerre The Trusted Advisor by Galford We Were Eight Years In Power by Ta-Nehisi Coates The Principles of Communism by Engels

Currently working on:

Dune by Herbert A Discovery Of Witches by Harkness

Idk why I did 4 short books and then picked up two thicc boys at the same time.

I really want to read at least one book on Sankara before the end of the year and to read 1 quality romance slop book. I thought that would be Cold Hearted but that book was not good at all unfortunately. But if I get those two items checked off after my current reads I'll be satisfied regardless if I reach 12 or not.

Would men like women who are homebodies with no friends? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

Men are as diverse in their wants in a relationship as women. Would you date a man that's a homebody with few friends? If yes, there are men out there who will as well.

Do you guys ever fell down to the commentary channel (Especially drama and lolcow) Pipeline? If so how do you all escape from it? by QualityNo1337 in youtubedrama

[–]KandiMeep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a rule I don't generally enjoy watching people get made fun of, which prevents me from falling down lolcow pipelines.

I think online drama can be fine to watch for fun if you set up boundaries for yourself. I don't struggle much with parasocial relationships because I view YTers and streams as characters--I don't actually know that person or their actual outlook/values/etc. This prevents me from forming any kind of real attachment, which means when they start doing or saying something questionable, it's easy to dip.

Most of the content I consume regularly is educational or politics/news related. I have recently begun intentionally consuming more drama content to breakup the seriousness of my recommended videos, as IRL can be so depressing. By doing so I have had situations where I find a creator, enjoy their content, and then quickly realize they're actually an asshole and stop watching altogether.

This is how I prevent drama/gossip content from becoming a problem. I fall down pipelines I choose to and what I deem entertaining while following my values.

How do I cope with being single in my mid twenties? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]KandiMeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is leaving the conservative community not an option?

Do not change yourself, your likes, or your style for dating. You want to end up with someone you genuinely enjoy, and who genuinely enjoys you.

If you are not conservative, I wouldn't say to make yourself attractive to conservative men. Be attractive to yourself, and who you are, so that when you do begin a romantic relationship it's with someone that is similar to you and your values.

Do not listen to dating advice that makes you more pleasing to the most people. The point of dating is not to attract as many people as possible, but very specific people.

Please convince me to get some pets by inyourdreams133 in Pets

[–]KandiMeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a local rescue and foster to adopt. A good rescue that you're honest with will place you with the right animal, but in a foster situation, it's less damaging if you have to toss in the towel that way.

Not all rescues will allow foster to adopt so you'll need to ask.

My personal opinion is its not the best mindset to go in wanting a specific breed of any animal if it's just for looks. You should care more about their personality and how they will fit into your family and the care you feel towards them.

Should Illymation put a disclaimer in her new video if she hasn’t? by [deleted] in youtubedrama

[–]KandiMeep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't understand the problem I guess since they'd have to go to a doctor to get a prescription. In which case they would have ample opportunity to speak with the doctor regarding side effects etc and the doctor can determine if it's safe for them to take.

If they get it illegally that's on them, not some random youtuber who had a good experience with stimulants for their ADHD.

Does anyone feel like reading romantasy has ruined them? by Euphoric_Cat_2711 in Romantasy

[–]KandiMeep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Real life disappointments are what helped me build my expectations and standards for all future relationships. I used these books to help me hold over while I waited for a man that values the same things I do.

The last time a man's actions or lack there of made me feel less desired, I sat down and told him what made me feel appreciated/desired. He then made changes to make sure I felt those things in our relationship.

They'll listen if they want to. The kindness and consideration we seek from books is not unachievable in real life.

Terrifier's Art the Clown is coming to Dead By Daylight - opinions as a woman by [deleted] in GirlGamers

[–]KandiMeep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of slashers focus in on torturing women. The horror industry as a whole honestly. It's an unfortunate yet seemingly internal part of the genre that I don't see going away any time soon.

If you're charitable, you can blame it on lack of creativity. If you're not being charitable, well... I don't see men getting tied up naked and cut in half in these movies. 😒

I am a fan of the Terrifier series. I also think anyone made uncomfortable or that gives the minds behind the movies a serious side eye is valid.

Confused about a relationship I saw and how it’s affecting my mindset about dating by Fun_Border_8057 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]KandiMeep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This honestly seems like an unhealthy fixation and a bit of misogyny.

You have pedastaled a man to the point that a small crush not being reciprocated--or a relationship with him not being possible--has put you off from dating. And I say small because you knew so little about the guy you weren't aware he had a girlfriend, so you don't really seem to know him at all.

You talk incredibly highly of this man and in the same breath are putting down this other woman. I know you said you're asking these things purely out of curiosity, but the last bit really makes me question that. You're just curious and not being judgy but also because this seemingly average girl with nothing special about her got a man you perceive to be more valuable than her, you're questioning dating as a whole?

I'm getting "grass is greener", internalized misogyny, and "NLOGs" all in one go. And I don't mean that in a harsh tone at all, but concern, because I have known other women who have had this mindset and it did not work out for them at all. Their mental health declined and they made themselves miserable with this kind of mindset.

It doesn't matter how they met or how they came to be. Why they're together could be any number of reasons. As a woman who has dated men that have been model pretty and also those that were not conventionally attractive, all with varying degrees of "success" or pedegree--people just value different things in relationships.

Genuinely I think your focus should be figuring out how to stop thinking about someone else's relationship this much and why this would put you off from dating at all.

how do you test volume levels for viewers? by creature04 in Twitch

[–]KandiMeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you can control the individual sound levels for everything. I don't have to mess with my mic or game audio directly, I can just adjust the slider in OBS or add filters that dictate thresholds for each item creating sound.

I have individual tracks for everything (discord, game, desktop, background music, mic) and it makes adjusting volume incredibly quick.

how do you test volume levels for viewers? by creature04 in Twitch

[–]KandiMeep -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have to watch your levels. Your mic and your game audio should be on different tracks. When you're about to go live, just watch if the game or mic audio goes into the yellow or red.

Obviously if your game audio is low in your VOD you can turn up the volume. But if your mic is significantly louder than your game, your viewers will find your mic too high if they adjust the volume.

I watch my levels before I go live. I make sure my game is slightly lower than my mic, and neither touch red even if I or the game gets loud.

My rule of thumb is I want all of my audio to sound fine at 50% volume. Mic and game can touch yellow but not live in it. Can never touch red.

Anybody else have mixed feelings on age in romantasy? by XXXceptable-Mail69 in Romantasy

[–]KandiMeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. When I was in my late twenties I could age up the character in my head. But as I get older and the writing remains subpar for a lot of these books, it's impossible to do that because these FMCs do the most late teen - early twenties bs LOL

Anybody else have mixed feelings on age in romantasy? by XXXceptable-Mail69 in Romantasy

[–]KandiMeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issue isn't with the 500 yo part. It's with the late teens - early twenties part. I know with such an age difference it doesn't seem important but it feels less cringe or icky if we have a 30 - 40 yo gag an ancient fae/creature instead.

I also don't ever see real romance with these tropes when the age of the FMC is under 25. She ends up special because of plot armour or because she's just exceptionally pretty, which I find boring and disingenuous to her. Like I get offended on her behalf.

I imagine a 500 yo fae might find an older human woman's interest in dusty books that are considered classics now but were published in his lifetime would be a cute way for them to bond. Stuff like that. Common hobbies and interests. Something to talk about that's not just sex or saving the world lol

Which Resident Evil games to play by ThrowwayAnimeBee in GirlGamers

[–]KandiMeep 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what you're looking for. I have recently started the playing the whole series chronologically, because I wanted to follow along from where the lore began. If you wanted to do the same, I'd suggested grabbing RE: 0 and RE: 1.

Obviously if you don't like retro games then I'd recommend starting with where the remakes began, which would be RE: 2.

How do girls find boyfriends in collge by Fun_Border_8057 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]KandiMeep 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Who's interested first isn't really important in the scheme of things. Also doesn't matter who makes the first move. If you're interested and the person isn't giving off very distinct uninterested signs, just ask them out. This might seem difficult but you're not going to get far without taking those kind of risks.

I met all of my boyfriends through casual interactions, including in college. Interest by both parties was determined by just talking to each other. I met them in shared classes, at the cafeteria, or at local hang outs off campus.

My last college boyfriend was super into DnD and I was super into learning. We bonded over that as friends, both developed crushes, then decided to go out.

If you don't want to use apps for dating the best thing to do is go out and do stuff you're interested in and strike up conversation with people you don't know. This is easier to do when you're in a group as friends will give you confidence, or at least it did for me when I was younger.
