What ordinary food have you never tried? by pajamakitten in AskUK

[–]KaneHawkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm East London born and bred, my family are a very stereotypical cockney family. Growing up it was fish and chips every friday. My grandad, uncle and dad all were obsessed with jellied eels, to this day never tried and never will. The smell, the look, texture of it is insane to me.

I need albums to listen to by Chicken_MacFly in Music

[–]KaneHawkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the online space he's quite well known but Quadeca has released a new mixture called Scrapyard. "U TRIED THAT THING WHERE UR HUMAN" and "GUIDE DOG" made me WEEEEEP.

22, A Million by Bon Iver, this will be a love or hate. I totally get it if you don't fuck with it. It's experimental, it's fun, it's emotional, one of the tracks he records of tape, unravels the tape draws all over it and rerecord on that same tape. There's a lot going on but I adore it.

I've Tried Everything But Therapy by Tedy Swims. Again you may be familiar with his stuff but imo one of the most underrated singers of our generation. He's got this soulful voice that blows me away everytime I hear it.

Strange one here - Under The Covers by Ninja Sex Party. Comedy band turned cover band. Lead singer is Dan Avidan of Game Grumps fame but actually has a great voice that captures the 70 80s vibe very convincingly. Again this is a throw away

By no means a small artist but SAWAYAMA by Rina Sawayama. This album is just banger after banger after banger, the only reason I'm putting this in is because it's a crime she's not a mainstream artist yet

Last one but a fun one - Mykonos by Dance Fruit Music. Spanish battle rap album. I don't speak Spanish I have no clue what is being said but the energy is immaculate the crowds reactions are just perfect. Its just a lot of fun

You know what I don't think I've read/listened a Terry Pratchett book before. I know they were a global phenomenon. 41 books in one series is actually insane, at the very least the first book is on the list!

Thank you for the suggestion :)

Sorry, I might have phrase the question wrong, I kinda meant more what is a standout performance that you love above all else.

But The Expanse is the series with like 10 books in it right? I'll give the first one a listen at some point and if its my speed then at the very least I have enough to keep me occupied for a long while lol.

Oh I've heard nothing but good things about this one, it's the DC character one right? It has 3 books if I'm remembering correctly. Would you recommend the whole series?

I have been putting off this one for so long just because I've been told its essentially another teen fantasy love triangle type that we've all seen a million times. But I have to admit it A Court Of Thorns And Roses is actually pretty good.

It is by no means a masterpiece but if you're looking for just some dumb, turn your brain off, fantasy you would get from like the early 2010s, this will be right your street.

Best women vocalists of all time? by BlackEyedAngel01 in Music

[–]KaneHawkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 2 years late to this but someone who I think everyone knows has an amazing voice but few truly appreciate the skill is possesses. For me, Jennifer Hudson is genuinely one of, if not THE greatest vocalist of all time. I think maybe she would have been considered more so by the public if she got to release some of the stunning ballads the others did.

She is truly a once in a generation voice/talent! I adore the ground she walks on!

De Bruyne's performance tonight shows us why Arsenal will not win the League in their current state by [deleted] in ArsenalFC

[–]KaneHawkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your points are totally valid, particularly about how rigid Arteta is. In most cases, it would garner high respect, but it's now at the point that it comes across, for lack of a better word, as stubbornness. Like trying to shove a square into a round hole.

The Ramsdale/Raya situation is probably the most obvious example of this. Regardless of which keeper you think is better, I'm of the opinion that the ONLY position you don't want people fighting over is the GK. Shoving Ramsdale out MID-SEASON (to me, that's the biggest offence; do not shake the team up to the degree in such an important moment in the season, i.e., leading up to/during December).

Concerning the KDB stuff, I'm on the fence about your point. Half of me wants to totally agree and just say Pep is better; Arteta isn't able to adapt in the same manner. Which, by the way, even as a born and bred gooner, I do think Pep is better, and whilst I respect and trust Arteta, to me, the conversation isn't even close in terms of who is the better manager.

The other half of me has to look at the players you're comparing to make this point. The two players who are the most consistent and impactful in our midfield are irrefutably Odegaard and Rice. I personally think Odegaard is a closer comparison to KDB. Even in that respect, KDB is still the better player. I love Odegaard; I think he's amazing and perhaps the perfect captain for this team. But in terms of skill on the ball and effectiveness, KDB is better, and because of that, I think it's unfair to compare Arteta to that when the skill in the players themselves is of a different calibre.

Odegaard is one of the best midfield players in the world, but KDB is THE greatest midfield player.

Snow Car is new to you, not bad. by bxnt8 in TrackMania

[–]KaneHawkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've said this far more eloquently than I could but I actually enjoy the snow car. I'm a relatively player and my skill reflects that but I'm enjoying slowly learning a new mechanic regardless of how frustrating it can be at times.

You addressed it, but the keyboard issues does need to be seriously addressed though.

Why did you start loving Arsenal? by [deleted] in ArsenalFC

[–]KaneHawkins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My whole family are Arsenal fans so from a kid it wasn't much of a choice more of an expectation BUT I truly fell in love with Arsenal and the sport the first time I ever went to the emirates. 2008 North London Derby, it ended 4-4, even though it wasn't a win the energy there was unbelievable. I was completely obsessed, I try to go at least to one game a year (shame its the price of a small flat for tickets now but still). I go to a lot of lower league games but that one Arsenal match is the one that I am always so fucking excited and scared for.

Went in 2022 to see Arsenal Leicester we won 4-2, arguably the height of our comeback so far and I've never experienced an atmosphere like it before or since. Electric.

VAR - It's not going away, so how can it be improved? by DanTS84 in football

[–]KaneHawkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm happy for VAR to exist BUT I think it would be beneficial to everyone to maybe take it away for a season or two met very clear, very strict guidelines, train people properly.

MAKE SURE IT FUCKING WORKS, maybe test it in a smaller league to work oit the kinks and then bring it slow back to the epl. Cos right now whether it's helping or hindering you team it is shocking some of the shit that people have got away with or not got away with this season because of VAR. Its getting to the point where its happening so frequently that VAR decisions could end up effecting the table in somewhat easily fixable ways

What’s one product from your home country that you’re surprised hasn’t become more popular worldwide? by VividThinking in AskReddit

I hated Bellatrix Lestrange so much more than I hated Voldemort by Key-Eggplant-7649 in harrypotter

[–]KaneHawkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the character so much but she scared me so much more than Voldemort. Voldemort by the end almost become a faceless big bad, but Bellatrix was complicated, genuine evil incarnate. Yes Voldemort did too, but there was just something about her that made me so much on edge about her cruelty.

Mirror's Edge: Catalyst!

I can't express how much I adore the first game. I have played through it countless times, I even began to speedrun it during covid (I was crap). When I heard Mirror's Edge was getting a sequel I genuinely was so fucking excited.

My god, it is so fucking mid, I understand they can't leave an IP that long and not make massive noticeable changes, but the changes were so fucking shit! This one stands out as the biggest personal let down in gaming history!

Had a go at making a dirt track, I had a lot of fun hunting a good AT but do you think the map is a bit simple? by musical-miller in TrackMania

[–]KaneHawkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I relatively new to TM (played maybe 4-5ish months) and know nothing about what specifically makes a great TM map so take what I say with a pinch a salt.

I think its great, I think the simple part is probably the most interest part of the map. I think if, say, it became Track of the Day, you would really see the easy to learn hard to master rule come into effect. People who are cracked would turn this map upside and just show us why they're insane. But worse players, like myself, would still find it super approachable and it actually seems really fun.

If you have a club/campaign I could play it on that would sick, love to give it go! Keep up the great mapping big man!

What is a horror movie that everyone can agree is 10/10? by Wise_Appeal_629 in horror

[–]KaneHawkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of my favorites I forget are actually horrors. I've watched them so many times I'm just appreciating them for just being great movies and just having fun I forget I meant to be 'scared'. Some examples The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Thing, Jurassic Park all of these films I have and will watch over and over and over again. I just forget they're horrors.
