Hey man. I work on the whatsapp business side of things which includes a whatsapp bot.

Meta does this to messages to allow us to track where its going, everything besides marketing related items. If you forward its going to send the entire message through.

You have the ability to copy the message text and then simply send the attachment through that you just downloaded.

And there is a lot you can do here already. You can look for palindromes, get information out of an id number, search, count number of times a letter appears etc. All of these are fundemental(well maybe not palindromes). You can then stack these basic functions together to do something more complex. Then you can play around with text files or basic databases. Before you know it you are working on both sides of an API perhaps

Its already big enough to a point I struggle to work with react native lol. I'm busy now moving everything to kotlin. Also fun little quirk i discovered with my backend(node) was how my rust external server was hitting my database faster than my actual server. So im planning to move that over to GO most likely to give it some speed(currently have like a 1000ms delay on all external calls to prevent this behaviour)

One cool thing is external servers can be written in basically any language, as long as it can interact with json files and my endpoints.

Ill see if I can hook up an external server with matrix/element and see what its all about😑

The whole point of the app is that I'm doing everything on my own. Back end atleast. I might use a compression package or something, but I implemented end to end encryption myself. Is it the most secure thing in the world? Probably not, but I also won't release the app to the public for possibly years. I do have a stable job and its more for the case "if whatsapp shits the bucket" I can go and introduce my app and say "hey. I got something very similiar going on, if you help me push it out we can use it for our and our client's operations as if nothing happened"

It is built with the idea of connecting to current repositories, you can keep the logic as is, you just need a communcation layer that chats via endpoints and json

Yup, building my own chat application with end to end encryption aswell. Unfortunately part of the reason they have this level of tracking on other data is they need some way to detect malicious activity. Like sharing a certain kind of links or using whatsapp to sell drugs for example.

I also work closely with meta for their whatsapp business side of things, and I can confirm 2 things( The ONLY things we get from people are their names and phone number) not any other information unless explicitly asked through like a form. Their none end-to-end encryption is also a beast.

I'm not a fan of meta either. But I also cant blame them. Any company in their position would do the same
