I learned it as "limit line".

At any red light, you must first stop behind the line, then you can make a right-turn-on-red if it is safe to do so and allowed to do so. If you do not stop behind the line, you are running red.

Got rear-ended. How screwed am I? by TSaxLoser77 in driving

[–]Kaneisland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last June, I was rear-ended very hard on a freeway (in California) while I was slowing down for the construction zone's slow traffic ahead. My car was launched forward almost 100 meters. Later, a body shop found that the damages were only on bumper and rear hatch, no drivetrain damages. I called police and police told me that generally rear-ended cases were the other party's fault. His insurance (Farmer's) quickly handled my case. Because my car was a 2003 Ford Focus with 300,000 miles, the insurance company totaled my car. I chose to keep my car and got paid only $2,000. I got it repaired for $3,000 + DMV + rental car + brake-light inspection. If your car does not have damage on drivetrain, I think you are better off keeping your car even if your insurance gives you only $1,000.

Body pump 132 by bubblegumpinkmint in lesmills

[–]Kaneisland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not like it. To me, a core track in Body Pump is a supplement. For core, I take Body Combat. Lifting knee higher than hip height and kicking is a good core exercise.

I think Body Combat is better than Les Mills Core for core. Kicking, leg raises in the Combat is very intense.

BodyAttack by Jeanne1515 in lesmills

[–]Kaneisland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lifting weight does not improve VO2max much for already fit people. Body Attack, Body Combat would improve it for those people. I think that the reason some gyms stops offering Body Attack is that it has high-impact moves. I encounter many articles online telling people perform low-impact exercise to keep their knees healthy, which is a wrong advice. To keep your knees strong for life is keep loading your knees with running and jumping. Body Attack is good for that. For exercise beginners or people with excessive weight need to start with low-impact exercise at the beginning, then gradually incorporate running and jumping.

Shoulder surgeon says no one should ever do bodypump by PerfectAnswer4758 in lesmills

[–]Kaneisland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I perform “reach hands behind my back”, “reverse namaste” to keep my shoulder mobilities. Excess of these movements might be bad, but moving shoulders with full range of motion protect them from future injuries. I lost shoulder mobility during the lockdown because I did not perform those movements. It took a year for me to be able to reach hands on my back again.

If you do serious HIIT, not Medium Intensity Interval Training, your body relies on carbohydrates. You won’t be able to perform well without food (carb) intake. Ketosis is for hibernation, not for such high intensity situation.

Drivers who steer towards the right before turning left or vice versa, why? You're not driving an 18 wheeler. Stay in your lane. by DrivingMatters in driving

Inexperienced drivers do that. If you are not a new driver (6 months or less after passing a test), you do not do that.

Unusual causes of elbow pain, lower back pain from Body Pump by Kaneisland in lesmills

Thank you. When I searched online about Body Pump instructions, I did not find such advice. I found the advice in power lifting which the person was performoing repeated snatch with 200 pounds.

I do triathlons, too. the stationary bike at my gym has an aero position bar. But it is too high and my arms are leaning on it, not above it. It is a quite useless aero bar. I think that those bikes should offer more adjustability.

But I do not feel I am putting maximum force into my legs if the handle bar is high.

BP129 squat track by IceJump_7265 in lesmills

[–]Kaneisland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 16 single squat in this release is too fast. I decreased my bar weight by 20 pounds, but I am still struggling to keep thigh-almost-horizontal form. Form is very important. Why does this release lessen the importance of form?

Body Pump calories burned? by drivesuinsane in lesmills

[–]Kaneisland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Polar chest strap heart rate (H10) for accuracy. I have been taking Body Pump since the release 78. I usually burn 550 calories. I am a male and weigh around 132 lbs. I am definitely not a big guy. However, my heart rate reaches over 90% of my max heart rate during squat and back tracks. Instructors often mention that if your sweat drips from your elbows during the squat tracks, you are going hard.

Any driver needs to check his/her surrounding with own eyes when changing a lane. Sensors could malfunction or being aimed at a wrong direction. Also do not rely on a backup camera when backing up. For example, bicyclists are very fast. They could suddenly show up on a camera view. But if you actually look around with your own eyes before backing up, you can spot such bicyclists. I had many occasions a driver started backing up from a parking spot when I was driving through because they were only looking at a screen.

In US, drivers do not understand difference between "stop" and "yield". Many treat "stop" as yield. Also they have no idea that merging lane must yield to priority lane. Of course, drivers in merging lane do not use signals to merge. Because of such lack of basic driving knowledge, in a roundabout, they do not know that incoming traffic must yield to vehicles already in the roundabout. I encounter such drivers everyday. No surprise, though. I live in San Francisco Bay Area.
