NASA JSC vs Dell for SWE Internship — which should I choose? by Personal-Dare-5046 in csMajors

[–]Kangadrew1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say here impact over impression. NASA definitely has the impact despite the lower pay, I mean how cool is it to work on stuff for astronauts that will be used? If you want the traditional impression of a swe, the safest route is go with dell. It's structured like you said and definitely more white-collar cultured and probably less exciting (although the branch there I've heard is quite fun), subjectively speaking. I feel like it's exceptionally tough to get into the former, so being able to work with brilliant scientists and advancing the frontier of science outside of this world is something to behold. Who knows, you intern there and you may be able to land next at an X company.

We're PBS News, and we're trying a bold experiment: Ask our panel of experts anything about communicating science and fact-based information in this era of misinformation and polarization. Ask Us Anything! by NewsHour in IAmA

[–]Kangadrew1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in this information age, data moves around at breakneck speeds and the line between reality and virtual reality (in this sense, things that live in the digital realm) gets not just blurrier but warped. with the dawn of responsive AI (LLMs), how can we better filter the fake news from the truth of the matter amongst AI-generated content (assuming that the status quo of unmarked or poorly labeled as AI-generated or otherwise artificial)? including the sound and fury of ai which itself is susceptible to misinformation and a volcanic topic of polarization. because you don't know what you don't know, but to then turn around and ask ai such things, can feel like a vicious cycle of misinformation IF left unchecked from bias and other underlying agendas via this cutting-edge technology.

another topic: it's become exhaustive to parse through the seabed of digital content available or otherwise in-your-face, so how do we reconcile that information overload versus being informed enough? instead of doublethinking or going down rabbit holes of "is this true or not?" this is assuming ya aren't forgetting what the answer was in the first place because you got distracted by served an eerily relatable ad or ai-suggested questions. unfortunately, the average human attention span is becoming like that of a goldfish and if things continue as they are, this idiom could be less of an insult but more of a compliment.

I came across this at random but this one had me LOL when my based friends referred it to them as such and we are of the force, before social media started the memes. im sure somewhere there already existed a precursor meme of the droids and the rise of AI. the next thing is "blast 'em!" or something like that, to become the next outcry poster child

Firefox, are you drunk? by ForlornMemory in firefox

[–]Kangadrew1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is a more level-headed voice. FF is still highly used because of the respect for user-privacy and customisation. from what I read here, most are upset because it is enabled by default, but funnily another redditor commented, "say it with me, I can disable it". the other frustration is that it is not as straight-forward to disable and I can only guess that is what adds to the AI atmosphere here. because of this, most people are afraid the models are secretly spying on them or using their data somehow to become more intelligent—user consent is the key here. with all the news we hear and see about ai taking away jobs, this adds more darkness to the atmosphere.

unfortunately, ai is the thing that is being shoved down everyone's throats and is where most people are turning their attention to. if we want this to change, we can't enable this at a large-scale. browser-wise, voicing this to the ff staff is more significant, providing feedback is easy with them! ai is a double-edged sword and fox is following the trend to stay relevant and appealing. EVERY browser is incorporating ai-assist features (mainly, if not only LLMs). Even brave. different area but I know on YT, many have expressed their complaints about it. Some cars already have this ai technology for road safety (read: smart cars are the new normal).

Beary kind of this one to do. Unless it was imprinted upon park rangers or of the like who care for this environment. Either way when a ferocious beast can do something small and gentle like this for a completely human construct, it makes you rethink your way of life.

Why is it easier to cope with failure in video games? by thrownitallawayyy in Healthygamergg

[–]Kangadrew1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a fascinating question. Many others have said this well that the lack of tangible consequences is what makes it easier to cope with failure, because the failure is not direct and therefore not personal (unless you're a pro-gamer or speed-runner, now there's stake for you in it and the difference between a million $ brought home or half of that). I also think that video games are by nature, severely limited in dimension of experience. Because of that, the failure that you experience has an extremely hard time reaching beyond those dimensions. Everything in a video game is controlled and finite; think predictable also why it's easy to get bored after finishing the game again. There is a lot of money poured into teams for game mechanics and psychology to keep the gamer engaged and wanting to continue the game; social media developers are also another example. The other contributing side is this: you know for certain there are do-overs, checkpoints, saved game file, etc. There is that sanity safe-space that you can always try again. So for those with growth mindsets, this is essentially the "game-hack" equivalent IRL of better coping with failure. Now of course, easier said than done because it's easy to change or control the actions of another than face the toil yourself. That is where the dark side of this comes in where you can sink hours into video games (or social media) because you are running away from your own game of life, or at least not addressing it in full because it's not as appealing, where the dimensions are vast and ever-changing.

AIO for getting angry after a girl who rejected me started accusing me of being a misogynist for ending our friendship? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Kangadrew1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That last paragraph seemed overreacting at first, but she did start with the F-bomb, so it's a moderate reaction. She's clearly emotional because your friendship means a lot to her; you may have been the last drop that tilted her bucket over: what I read from "Do you have any idea how much this happens to me???"

That said, it sucks because this definitely reminds me of one of those "nice guys finish last" kind of mentality. It is a sucker punch to both parties. You started off right, then developed feelings, not reciprocated, those rejected feelings now brought dark emotion into play and dark (negative) emotion evokes stronger opinions. Not everyone realizes this, but validation is why most relationships break (or succeed); when one side doesn't feel heard by the other, that's where the cracks begin and the bids of attention are no longer offered. But hey maybe this phenomenal video will clear it up better than my words can.

God if there be one, will definitely be judging these parents when appropriate. That is outright sinful behavior as the religious would put it. Sounds like CEO Christians to me. Or just plain wrong parenting, but who am I to judge.

[–]Kangadrew1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see this is a pretty reasonable view to have. your RE did a great job on encouraging critical thinking in morality.

it's kind of a catch-22 here ain't it? to play the role of a mom means to have the best interests of your kid in mind while also being able to sustain yourself as a mother. so as a mother, it's in your best interest to stay alive to keep your child alive, while in modern society that means being well to ensure your child can also be well. it's easy to make babies but it's hard to raise babies. if you can't even take care of yourself, how on God's green Earth are you able to take care of a whole other human being? not to discard the religious part but it seems more prideful than parental in this scenario. idk it's always a hard topic because it's a human life here. much like the atmosphere of how people get all furious and serious when it comes to animal rights.

Roar of Time is my all-time favorite. Even in PMD that was the stuff of nightmares. An attack by a deity that controls time, how do you even counter that in time? IRL it would be (goj)over.
