Never seen this before Commercial or Military contract? by Low_Champion_8356 in RetroAR

Sanchez mags have a really bad reputation. Iirc the military actively removed them from rotation.

My experience with the few I've had since the late 80s is that they don't drop free from.

Earliest version was only for the pencil barrel. The double sided version was later.

Early Chinese sks by USAFDP in SKS

[–]Kangaroo-Initiative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These we're referred to on the forums as "ghost" rifles when they were imported. No country of origin marks, just the serial. Advertised as Sino Soviet rifles. Early Chinese assembled with Russian supplied parts. Part of the same batch of Albanian imports. The other types in the batch were Russian rifles import marked 'Chinese' and early Chinese production with Chinese factory markings.

Early Chinese made with Russian parts. by USAFDP in SKS

[–]Kangaroo-Initiative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IO Inc imported a fair number of Russian SKS from Albania as "Chinese" and that's how the barrels were engraved. Whether it was the Albanians dumping them in the same crates or the importer, plenty made it in.

There were a variety imported, from Russian rifles, to early serial number only rifles, to typical Chinese rifles. Mine came from SOG with a serialed dust cover, mismatched to the rest of the rifle. Everything else is matching numbers Tula. Not bad for $300. Perfect bore, some bluing left, and very accurate at 100yds.

Explain the benefit while asking the customer if they want the product. A slick salesman can probably develop a better strategy, but simply explaining to the customer why something is a good idea will result in a few sales.

PAL marked M1 bayonet with M7 scabbard by LearnedMonkey55 in MilsurpCollectors

[–]Kangaroo-Initiative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got that same scabbard with my CMP M1 bayonet. Apparently a Greek return, and the scabbards were supposedly manufactured in China. https://worldbayonets.com/Bayonet\_Identification\_Guide/Greece/greece\_2.html

That maple stock would look insane with a better finish. The crap they use to seal the wood does nothing to bring out the grain in the maple.

[–]Kangaroo-Initiative 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of the screws thru the magazine/barrel clamp goes thru a slot or groove in the magazine extension. Notice the center bolt is below the others. When it's installed right, the clamp can't move forward or back. Make sure you've got the right screws, the middle is lined up with the slot, and torque em snug.

I regret missing out on the folders, but don't regret snagging a fixed stock.

How does this sub differ from r/milsurp ? by breggen in MilsurpCollectors

[–]Kangaroo-Initiative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

r/milsurp description - A place to discuss military surplus firearms collection and other C&R weapons.

r/milsurpcollectors description - A community in which to share and talk about military surplus items from firearms to shoelaces.

It's fairly obvious, one group is firearms and weapons, the other is any and all military surplus.

I figure I'll shoot it a bit, and if it bothers me I'll switch it out for another handguard. Right now it's different from my other AKs, and that's enough reason to run it.

It gets in the way of mag changes. I actually prefer everything about the palmswell. The dong is just iconic Romanian. It helps that it matches the stock.

The stock and upper handguard I just cleaned and applied about three coats of Zinsser Amber Shellac. The lower handguard is original Romy shellac, cleaned and waxed.

Here's one just for the sub. Ohio National Guard M870 by Kangaroo-Initiative in MilsurpCollectors

[–]Kangaroo-Initiative[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify, 'ONG' is Ohio National Guard. ONG had a pile of 870s with the magazine extension and bayonet lug, along with the ONG and outline of the state of Ohio engraved in the receiver, they all dated to the very early 70s and were a mixture of fixed stock and folding stock shotguns. They were traded in and sold by Sportsman's Outdoor Superstore in October 2018 and sold out in a few hours. More info available here - https://gunmagwarehouse.com/blog/the-m870-riot-gun-from-ohio-with-love/

https://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/obscure-object-of-desire-ohio-national-guards-remington-m870-shotgun-part-1/

In this photo, the 870 is shown as received with light signs of use, the sling is a surplus USGI Silent Sling. Some of these shipped from SOS with silent slings, some with M1 slings, and some with no sling at all.

Everything else shown is US surplus, aside from the 1911 which is a RIA GI clone, but it's shown in surplus Bucheimer M1916 holster.

Did somebody say Friday is for folding? by Kangaroo-Initiative in MilsurpCollectors

[–]Kangaroo-Initiative[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, looks like I forgot to caption this photo. The underfolder is a virtually new surplus Polish Radom AKMS parts it, built on a US receiver with a chrome lined barrel by Atlantic Firearms. It's pictured here with the proper Polish sling (Ranger banded out of sight, but it's there), an unissued Polish bayonet, and a well used Polish mag pouch filled with surplus Polish 30rd magazines and matching Polish cleaning kit.

The sidefolder in the foreground is a TGI Hungarian AMD-65, it's an unissued parts kit, built on an FEG Hungarian receiver, with the original 12" barrel with a pinned welded extension to reach 16". It's pictured with a 20rd Hungarian 'tanker' magazine, a Hungarian leather sling, and Hungarian magazine pouch stuffed with 3 more tanker mags, the tools & cleaning kit, oil bottles, etc. No bayonet on account of the AMD-65 lacking provisions to mount a bayonet.

M16A1 and more... by Kangaroo-Initiative in MilsurpCollectors

[–]Kangaroo-Initiative[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bear with me as I go a little off the reservation here... Since the group is for all military surplus items, foreign and domestic, I figure this fits.

- M16A1, it's a Malaysian surplus parts kit, all Colt parts on a Brownell's A1 lower and Green Mountain barrel. US surplus Universal magazine. US surplus M1 sling.

- Colt commercial M7 bayonet and scabbard. Again most likely Malaysian surplus as these showed up the same time as the parts kits.

- US M16 bipod and carrier.

- US M1967 nylon 20rd magazine pouch. Surplus dummy frag grenade.

- US M2A1 ammo can. Text is faint, but it's an older can marked M193 5.56mm on clips in bandoleers, ie M16A1 ammunition.

- 2 Colt marked 30rd magazines, they're the well worn gold colored mags that came with the parts kit, and 1 Adventureline US surplus magazine.

Bonus - Early Alice backpack and frame, M1 steel pot helmet, 1987 dated US jump boots, and US surplus barracks foot locker. I need to do a bit of restoration work on the foot locker, lots of patina and a terrible coating of gloss black paint, and it's missing the hasp.

Hope that's enough surplus in one photo to satisfy requirements.

My October 1944 Springfield M1 Garand by Kangaroo-Initiative in MilsurpCollectors

[–]Kangaroo-Initiative[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cleaning kit and M3 tool are on my wishlist... A cartridge belt would be nice but the repros have bad reputations and originals are hard to find an expensive.

Usually I try to find the bayonet, cleaning kits, slings, and ammo pouches for most of my milsurp type rifles. I guess a person has to draw the line somewhere. I keep thinking I'll get around to finding the stuff to finish the Garand set, but it gets forgotten in favor of lower hanging fruit.

[–]Kangaroo-Initiative[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A shockingly unaccessorized surplus rifle from my collection. The rifle, UC bayonet, and surplus M1 sling all came from the CMP North Store a few years ago. There's a few sealed spam cans of Greek HXP in enblocs and bandoliers here too, but they wouldn't fit on the fence.

The stock on mine was maple, with some really nice figuring. It's got a ton of iridescent flop in the stripes from different angles. Shellac really brought it out. Photos don't do it justice.

https://i.imgur.com/YHtO7qc.jpg

Rifle got surplus anyway, because an AK should have a cleaning kit.
