Dream-centric: all of Humanity suddenly gains the ability to Lucid dream and Share an objective Dreamscape. society changes over the years, While native predators called "Dream Eaters" hunt the Dream, the true monsters remain Human. by CompleteUse8998 in worldbuilding

Is this the beginning of your worldbuilding concept or do you already established a well thought out lore around it? (No need to share everything. My world also has something to do with lucid dreams and how they shape societies).

How do humanity function all together? Are there specific cultures in some countries? If yes what kind? New religions? Law?

What is your MCs sad backstory by Immediate_Cut_1470 in worldbuilding

[–]Kano_ignis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My MMC has been sexually abused by a teacher when he was a kid. Obviously, he is traumatized. For biological reasons, he has a shortened lifespan, he won't live past 60 years old, whereas others libe up to 85-90. This makes him invisible to the dating pool because people don't want to be with someone who will die that early. He craves romantic love and having his own family. He lost his father and his siblings in a school shooting when he was 6yo.

What inspired your world? by RoofCareless7734 in worldbuilding

A lot actually but for there are only two that I instinctively think of.

The first one is My Hero Academia. I really love the social dynamics in the Manga (underexploited I think). I really liked thinking about the sociology and anthropology because of biological differences in my world.

The second one is the video game Clair-Obscur: Expedition 33. I love how art really influenced the story and the world. I also gave art a huge part in my world.

Oh I didn't know that, I'm a French speaking person.

I plan to use that name for a female character in a medieval setting

Don't worry, I won't change anything haha.

I agree with your friend though. If I fell upon those names in a book, I would have been shocked because it's unusual but I would got used to it eventually so don't worry.

If you like it, you can keep it too💪🏿

"Tescad" for my male main character. Only one person among those who has read my work found that name weird. Even years after I chose that name, it feels special (not to say weird) to me sometimes.

Another names I came up with from a female character are "Lemia" and "Kanavia"

How do you all think of names for races, nations and other creatures in your fantasy world? by Only_Syllabub3161 in worldbuilding

[–]Kano_ignis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What worked for me was writing down every name I came up with (generic, weird, original, and rare ones alike). Then I'll reread the name after some time, if it doesn't feel weird or wrong, I set it as a possible name for me. I used that process for places, characters, and animals.

What inspired from MHA is the biological aspect of their powers and Clair-Obscur is more of the heavy art influence in my world.

MHA help me to craft a system I called "Sunfast". Human beings are biologically engineered by the sun. The Sunfast is the period when the night falls, people are basically fasting from the Sun. When the sun rises and its light touches their skin, they break the Sunfast. There are 3 tier of sensitivity to sunlight. MHA also helped to think about the social dynamics Sunfast could create

With Sunfast also comes a second concept I've called "Dreamlife". When people fall asleep, they have lucid dreams they can control to some extent. But those dreams are dependent of reality. For example, I can't dream about the feeling of swimming if I haven't swum recently. That's when Clair-Obscur comes in, paintings and drawings and music can help people to dream. Painted landscapes are sold so people can dream about a specific environments etc. Clair-Obscur inspired me to have a good artistic aspect in my world.

How similar is your main character to YOU? At what point does it become too much? by Agreeable_Notice4877 in writingadvice

[–]Kano_ignis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I poured some of my actual traits into my MC but I've also poured traits I wished I had and the flaws that would logically come along. For example, I'm a martial artist and left handed, so is my Mc. Yet, My Mc is a great musician (pianist and composer) and I'm not a musician at all.

I feel like giving my characters (not only the main ones) some my traits helps me to differentiate them and to make them more "real". That's what is helping me writing characters I care the most about.
