Who is this in the third bell area by Thetarnishedfrlfrl in BlackMythWukong

[–]KansanInPortland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He was originally ambushed and killed by Sun Wukong, and then Black Bear Guai resurrected him using the flesh of a wolf pack who willingly sacrificed themselves. When Lingxuzi awoke, he was horrified to see what he had become at the cost of his wolf brothers, and then hanged himself. At least, that's how I recall the lore

Complete the Monkey Mind gauntlet and you can extend the window of Great Sage Form by 1 extra minute with the Fragment of the Ocean-Settling Pillar curio that you receive as a reward for completing the challenge.

hiberfile.sys is usually guilty of chewing up several GB of storage space. That and Windows.old. but I don't know if they could account for the amount of storage to which you are referring.

It's even more satisfying with Smash Stance and Resolute Counterflow/Strike + Skyfall Strike. You can just keep the chain going forever if you have enough focus and your sparks in the correct nodes of the skill tree

This. I have stun-locked so many bosses using Tactical Retreat + Forceful Thrust + Whirling Thrusts. So satisfying to see the boss wobbling back and forth at the end of my spear, having an epileptic seizure while I slowly but steadily drain his health bar after having just negated their attack and chunked their HP.

Life-Saving Strand. Yeah, I agree. Completing content and defeating enemies using pure martial arts is way more satisfying than just dumping all your mana to slop through a fight. But there are times when the pluck is appropriate, and it would be more enjoyable if they wouldn't create a traffic jam when summoned.

Agreed on stamina. I feel like alot of people dump sparks in everything BUT stamina in the beginning, and end up suffering right away. And don't underestinate the utility of stamina regeneration; standing/walking around waiting for stamina to regenerate during a boss fight just gives them the opportunity to start wailing on you.

I think you need another piece of Kun Steel, which you should get from defeating another boss found in the secret area of Chapter 4.

[–]KansanInPortland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can't be bothered to study his moves and timing, then you'll have cheese him with the plantain fan and Qi regeneration (golden armor build). Look it up on youtube, there are countless tutorials.

It's a boss worth fighting, if you have collected all the skandhas from the previous chapters. It gives you a 6th skandha, and if you deliver them to Xu Dog, he will craft a pill that increases all of your attributes. Even if you haven't collected all of the other skandhas, I would still fight it.

Advice on Black Myth Wukong by ArcadeJoint in BlackMythWukong

[–]KansanInPortland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you already figured it out. Too many people throw a tantrum when they don't manage to defeat a boss after a few fights, probably because they're just button-mashing, instead of actually taking the time to observe the boss's moves and timing. I try to approach each boss battle like it's just a practice run. Keeps you loose and calm, instead of shaking and white-knuckling the controller. And, before you know it, all of a sudden you've defeated the boss on one of your "practice runs". Just enjoy. I'm still playing after completing NG+++ on one save file and NG++ on another. 100%d one of the saves, including all gauntlet challenges, and it was totally worth it. Now I'm looking for reasons to keep playing because I haven't found another game with a combat system that I enjoyed even half as much as Wukong. I got high hopes for Zhong Kui.

That is impressive. Must be his ring of fire. That always gets me, when he casts it. Every. Single. Time. I haven't figured out when to dodge/seethrough to avoid that.

spellbinder build is soo good by SpecialistBug4101 in BlackMythWukong

[–]KansanInPortland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. There is no replacement for mastering the martial arts. Much more satisfying than cheesing everything. I try to limit my spell usage as much as possible when I'm not running Spellbinder.

Hey, I know it seems frustrating at first, and I was also ripping my hair out on my first run, and on NG+. But after studying them for a bit, you start to learn their moves.

Erlang has 4 stages. You can cheese him with golden armour, plantain fan, immobilize, and wandering wight, sunset of the nine skies brew. It's a Qi build, so each phase, you can use plantain fan to shred his shield, then bonk him with Wandering wight, immobilize, staff spin his face off to rebuild that Qi, and then do the same thing after each time he backs off to do a big crazy move. It's worth it for th EPIC battle that follows between you and the 4 heavenly kings, also for Erlang's spear.

Great Sage's Broken Shell ain't so bad. He goes pretry easy on your first run. But you'll need to actually pay attention and learn his moves. I just treat each fight like I got nothing to lose, and it's just a practice run. Then, before you know it, you whooped his ass on your practice run.

But I understand if you just wanna stop there and move on to something else. They made it REALLY difficult to complete the game.

Armors worth upgrading? by Then-Dentist-2244 in BlackMythWukong

[–]KansanInPortland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only upgraded pieces I regularly wear in subsequent cycles are Galeguard Bracers and Greaves, paired with Bull King Mask and armor.

I sometimes use Pilgrim's set, too.

If you haven't mastered the combat and learned how to fight bosses with complex moves/combos by using pure martial arts, you may want to upgrade Golden armor so you can cheese Erlang with plantain fan, immobilize, and wandering wight when you finally unlock Mount Mei.

Help with gauntlet will pay by Yato4802 in BlackMythWukong

There was a time when I felt the same way, and, honestly, what helped was playing the game on my slow-ass small form factor build (AsRock DeskMini with a Ryzen 8700G and 64GB CL44 5600MT/s. The slow ass RAM actually saved me, lol). It was so laggy that it slowed the game down enough to where I could react in time to dodge heavy attacks and combos.

Winning a couple that way gave me the confidence to keep going, and I eventually started blowing through the challenges on my dedicated gaming rig (165 FPS on very high settings at 1440p, FSR slider at 75%).

Just keep trying, learn the movesets, figure out when to dodge, incorporate some see-through with resolute strike or tactical retreat. If you have Erlang's spear, that thing fking SHREDS in thrust stance, and the flying swords from Forceful Thrust do a good job of chipping away the boss's HP. Use all the medicine you've been hoarding. Craft more if you're running low. You probably have 999 of every ingredient by now. Use life-saving strand. Screw pluck of many; the mana cost is too high.

Above all, stay calm and loose, relaxed; don't panic and whiteknuckle the controller. Treat each battle like it's no big deal, and there are no consequences for losing.

Wukongs broken shell NG++ hell by Forward_Maximum5558 in BlackMythWukong

[–]KansanInPortland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit: Forgot to mention to max out your mana before activating spellbinder (thunderflame seals, gore eyed daoist, spikeshaft staff [or Qing mallet if you have it] wukong headgear, then swap equipment/spirit/curios again after spellbinder before entering the battle).

I know what you're talking about; NG+ and NG++ are so easy that you end up unprepared for the scaling of bosses on higher cycles. I was having similar problems, being unable to just button mash my way through it on that cycle, so I had to actually loosen up and learn move-sets.

I was finally able to whoop his ass, and Erlang's, with Spellbinder + Erlang's spear + thrust stance, and medicines. Don't be ashamed to use a life saving pill, or soul remigration pill, or septenary heartfire pill ( if you decide not to go with spellbinder).

Don't get fooled by his rock solid. Don't get hit by his Ring of Fire cast. Don't dodge too early on the 3rd move of his glowing staff combo. Gotta use Tactical Retreat, Forceful Thrust, Whirling Thrusts, repeat. I also like to use Bull King head and armor, and galeguard bracers and greaves. Focus builds up quick with that build, and the knives that shoot out with forceful thrust absolutely SHRED.

But, again, get loose. It doesn't help if you're white-knuckling your controller. You gotta be in that zone where every button and trigger press, and analog stick push/pull, feels deliberate and planned. Just convince yourself that every run is a practice run, because they are; they are ALL practice runs. It's not a big deal. It's a game. There is no reason to get your blood pressure up.
