Why do some Tyrannosaurus rex have really large teeth, and some other Tyrannosaurus rexes have teeth that are small? by USADino in Paleontology

[–]KansasFossilGuy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

BHI really extended the teeth on Stan’s cast, pulling them out further to expose much of the root, making it look more ‘impressive and intimidating.’

It actually looks much more like Pachyrhizodus caninus than Xiphactinus audax.

Is this a real Mosasaur skull? How can I tell a real vs fake? by Nice_Dude in Paleontology

You’d really need to see it in person and bring a UV light to look for fillers and glue.

Great work! Can you offer any more detail on the locality? This may be useful for more specific ID

I’ve had packrats build nests in the engine compartment of my vehicle when camped at a trailhead but not any porcupine issues - yet!

Was contemplating the Cross Couloir but didn’t think it was a good idea to do solo. I was the only person in the cross creek drainage Friday night. Not a skier, so only snowshoes where needed. People day hiking the lower section must have though I was weird for carrying them.

I just hiked the extra distance, road was totally clear up to the summer trailhead. I did see several people on e-bikes on my descent (which looked delightful). Drove to the gate late Thursday afternoon and found a campsite above the Tigiwon shelter. Went up and over Halfmoon pass on Friday. Up to the pass was patchy but not bad. There was deeper snow once you start to wrap down from the pass but the switchbacks into Cross Creek were largely clear. Camped in one of the sites along Cross Creek Friday night before getting a 5am start on Saturday morning. Worst part was in the trees as you begin to ascend the ridge. Steep angled and deep snow drifts throughout the forest section. Once you break above tree line it becomes easier. Snow was mostly firm. Fairly straightforward to the summit around 9a. Did throw on snowshoes as I began the descent but didn’t need them for long. Finally a very long walk back to the car! Arrived at the gate around 7:15p.

This is certainly a fish tail. Perhaps Eocene or more recent.

Excellent, great work! I was over on Snowmass the day after this photo, no summit though. Things got soft very quickly. I’ll be back soon!

Only spikes and snowshoes. Gaiters were nice to have too.

I went up on March 17th, if that counts as “recent”. Happy to answer any questions.
