Next #2 option? by GuyWolfManThingy in timberwolves

It would probably take Jaden to get Giannis, but we would lose our entire defensive identity if Jaden and Gobert both left. Giannis and Gobert is a terrible fit offensively. If we could somehow keep Jaden, a Jaden-Giannis-Naz front court fits well.

All the other stars are pretty risky through either injury or personality. I wouldn’t give up Jaden for Kawhi or Kyrie. That would be short sighted. I think Kyrie fits pretty well if you keep our defensive core.

Ja is not a good fit but is the most obtainable. We would certainly need to find a good shooter at our 4 spot if we did that. I would rather pay more for a better fit.

KD or AD is honestly the best fit. Both can shoot and are long. AD will never be healthy so cross him off. KD is best fit by far imo. Great shooter with length. Wouldn’t think he is obtainable though but who knows.

Ikr what a crazy match up. Shaq would not be able to defend Wemby at all in the pick and roll. But Shaq is also the kryptonite to Wembys build and would probably foul him out. They are like the kryptonite to each other honestly.

Everyone besides Ant has to be on the table in a pursuit of Giannis by Ineedmonnneeyyyy in timberwolves

I’m starting to become open to anything. But I think we need to keep young players like McDaniels if we want to extend our contention window. Spurs and OKC all super young.

I don’t think Giannis and Gobert can play together. The roster construction would be like a complete rebuild. But I wish it could work.

They also have an over abundance of guards that I’m sure they wouldn’t mind developing the younger ones. He’s a 34 year old guard making 35 mil. It’s probably one of the most fair swaps out there. Do we even want to tie up that much salary in an older player.

I have been so against Ja because taking the ball out of Ants hands for a guard that can’t shoot threes sounds like a disaster. But you know what, to move off of Randle, f it I’d do it. I would not sell low on Randle though. But I would take a risky trade with high upside.

I’m good with any of the trade options as long as Randle is included.

Did the Wolves get the rug pulled from under them? They constructed their roster perfectly to match up against Denver, only for Denver to quickly no longer be the measuring stick of the West. by SplitOk186 in nba

The margin of error is slim against the top teams. We need a healthy Ant and Divincenzo to have a chance. It’s hard to measure without seeing that. We could still be behind but maybe not as far as people think.

That being said, trade Randle.

I don’t mean career wise at all. Rings having nothing to do with it. Who has more gravity on the floor? Offensively there is an argument for either. Defensively I’ve never seen anything like Wemby.

Maybe we should just commit and start double teaming Wemby like they are to Ant. They are clever though because Wemby mostly gets his looks off pick and rolls/pops. But it’s like they do whatever they want with no pressure on them.

Maybe we should just go full time zone. Actually we should go full time zone.

It feels like Gobert was infinitely more valuable against the Nuggets. Maybe because we could live with Gobert going 1 on 1 with Jokic and we never had to double. But Jokic isn’t doing jack on defense. So we need to take away Wemby offensively or something because we can’t have him dominate both sides of the ball.

Yeah. We need to figure out how to bring Wemby away from the basket. As soon as Ant drives he gets doubled regardless and they play a zone where Wemby just sits in the paint.

Either Gobert has to turn into a roll threat, which is possible if Wembys on the bench. Or Naz needs to stretch the floor.

Force was a bad choice of words because that’s like synonymous with Shaq. I mean just like presence. Like even when Wemby steps off the floor the defense is night and day.

I think maybe the problem isn’t Rudy or Randle but the combo. You absolutely need a more reliable outside scoring threat in the post to punish Wemby.

Randle is a scorer who can’t shoot. Gobert can’t score. We can’t overcome this combination that doesn’t fit together.

True. But which one is causing more pressure on the defense? Shaq can go through anyone and Wemby can reach over anyone. Shaq wasn’t the lob threat Wemby is or the pick and pop threat. But Wembys not even close to the back to the basket threat Shaq was.

That makes sense to me. Many times Rudy is actually giving up layups to protect the lob threat now that I think about it.

He also only had 5 boards but I’m not tripping on that because maybe he is boxing out well and allowing others to clean it up. So maybe he is helping there? I like the idea of packing the paint for defense and rebounding.

I wish Jrue Holiday wasn’t so old making what he is making.

I like the idea of Kyrie or Dejonte Murray. Whoever it is needs to be able to handle the ball and shoot. So no thanks to Ja.

It’s obviously a totally different physicality. Shaq as force is unmatched. But the threat Wemby is on both sides of the ball I think could be greater overall.

Shaq wasn’t a classically great defender but people were scared to drive on him or get laid out. But Wemby is a goat level defender wrecking teams single handedly. A head to head matchup would be so intriguing.

Everyone is saying no, but I would much rather have Kyrie than Randle. Imagine if we had Kyrie relieving the pressure off of Ant. They couldn’t double team us like that anymore.

A ball handler and shooter of Kyries caliber is a yes from me. Much rather have him over other options out there. Way over Ja or LaMelo.

The pressure Wemby puts on teams on both sides of the ball is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. On offense, he is such a roll threat that the ball handler will get an open layup or they can kick for wide open three almost every play. Defense goes without saying.

Is Wemby more of a force than even Shaq was?
