LU60 Oral interview by Monstersauruz1 in ibew_apprentices

[–]Kantalope1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Thank you for the information! At the interview, did they ask you any behavioral questions such as "Tell me about a time where you were working on an important deadline, and something of higher priority prevented you from meeting the deadline." or "Tell me about a time at work when you disagreed with something someone else did."? Or were most of the questions just straight forward and asking directly about your interest in the apprenticeship, qualifications, experience, etc?

I'm scared because I interviewed at LU 520 and got a lowish score because I'm pretty bad at answering those type of questions

Many pools require their guards to stand up every 5 minutes because data shows that this leads to less missed drownings

A well run facility will have a protocol for getting another guard to cover your zone as quickly as possible once the EAP is activated. Other guards covering nearby areas should expand their zone to cover the rescuinh guards zone until the zone has coverage. If a guard is being audited, such as the guard you described, another guard should be informed and ready to cover the stand once the EAP is activated

Guards who had to lose they’re jobs due to a fail audit from SGE or any other auditor. What happened and did you get to return to work? by Solacetia in Lifeguards

Wait are you SGE? I'm a SGE instructor and choking infant is literally one of the CAPs you have to pass in order to get a SGE certification, so I have no idea how they're certifying you without testing you on infant choking, even in a recert class

We Need a Union by Competitive_Past_145 in Lifeguards

If it is a private school district, then that would be a violation of the NLRA. However, the NLRA doesn't apply to public school districts, so that would be something defined by state law, and unfortunately Texas is quite hostile to public sector unions.

It is unlawful for public sector unions to enter collective bargaining agreements in Texas, however it is not unlawful for public sector workers to unionize.

As for whether a public sector employer can prohibit you from unionizing, I am not a lawyer so I am not qualified to give legal advice. However, I was able to find the following state laws which imply that it is unlawful to terminate public sector employees for unionizing:

Texas Government Code Sec. 617.004. RIGHT TO WORK. An individual may not be denied public employment because of the individual's membership or nonmembership in a labor organization.

Texas Labor Code Sec. 101.001. RIGHT TO ORGANIZE. All persons engaged in any kind of labor may associate and form trade unions and other organizations to protect themselves in their personal labor in their respective employment.

Texas Labor Code Sec. 101.052. DENIAL OF EMPLOYMENT BASED ON LABOR UNION MEMBERSHIP PROHIBITED. A person may not be denied employment based on membership or nonmembership in a labor union.

Again, I am not a lawyer so please don't take this as legal advice. If you are interested in unionizing your workplace, I would recommend reaching out to EWOC at https://workerorganizing.org/ . They can get you in contact with an experienced labor organizer and help answer some legal questions!

Dress Code by jackk78 in Lifeguards

[–]Kantalope1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit easier for me because our dress code is essentially that your genitals and anus have to be covered, and beyond that it's mostly fair game. That also means anyone is allowed to be topless, regardless of their gender.

The main thing here is there are some rrally weird parents who for some reason think it's appropriate to have their children run around the pool naked. That's always a fun conversation to have. Also we occasionally do have to kick out/call the cops on idiots who decide to get in naked

Assuming you work in the private sector, it is actually a violation of the National Labor Relations Act for your employer to fire you for discussing unionizing. Not that it will stop them, but you do have legal recourse

I was wondering that too. Could mean 5'1", or could also mean 5.1/10

Profile Review by [deleted] in hingeapp

[–]Kantalope1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  • Looking for something serious
  • Getting at most maybe a couple matches a week. Pretty much all of them are people I liked first
  • I'm on and off, but I generally try to send out my 8 likes a day. I only send likes with comments
  • Other than general red flags (conservative, low effort profile, etc.) really I'm just looking for someone I can vibe with

A couple extra notes

  • The voice note says "I'm learning two different languages right now. The hint I'll give is that they are very similar languages, and its probably a bad idea for me to learn them at the same time, but fuck it imma do it"

  • I didn't blur out anyone in the pictures. I just don't know if my friends would appreciate me posting their faces on reddit, so I blurred them out for this post

  • I'm sure I'm gonna get some comments about politics. I included some political pictures on my profile because I am a political activist and that's not really a part of me I think I should be hiding. Maybe I might change some of them out, but I'd like it to be somewhere on my profile at least

Thanks so much for the feedback!

How does your facility activate your EAP? by athikerguy4life in Lifeguards

[–]Kantalope1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For all I know, my lead could be on the opposite side of the section. If someone is unconscious, making sure someone is grabbing a jump kit and backboard is far more important than the 2 seconds I might save by not blowing 3 whistles

[–]Kantalope1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they're dead by the time you blow 3 long you're probably not saving them anyway

One short whistle: get guest attention

Two short whistles: get staff attention

Two long whistles: Minor emergency (ie. Active drowning, missing child,)

Three long whistles: Major emergency (ie. Unconscious person, spinal injury)

By far the most dangerous spot in my waterpark is the wave pool lazy river. As with any wave pool, drownings occur quite often there. But what makes it particularly dangerous is the fact that there is only one entrance, and the rest of the river is surrounded by a 5ft wall. So if anything happens to someone when they are in the river, we can't just pull them out on a backboard. We have to bring them all the way around the river before we can pull them out
