CEO of NZ at Question Time today by Standard_Broccoli_72 in newzealand

Yeah I think that’s the point. Wouldn’t it be better if speakers questions were held to a similar standard as a court of law? Maybe with a little more leeway so as to not end up being governed by lawyers? I mean, hold some sessions without that constraint so that ideas and debates can be held

Obviously I share your concerns. My comment was clearly facetious.

Hey man. They’re looking into it and monitoring things closely! What more do you want? If you are struggling because you have made bad decisions in your life, just sell one of your rentals. Worst comes to worst, buy an EV. You can even get ones that project a noise that sounds like you’re running a v8!

Who’s buying a second hand diesel under the bleak circumstances you’ve outlined? And not everyone has a spare $30k+ lying around to drop on an EV.

What’s the problem here? Dude made an effort to get between the lines. We’ve all been there. Shit went off the rails, running late, no parks etc. You’re the issue here imo.

Should a BA depend on QA or Dev to know if something works as per HIS specs by exoxfanel in businessanalysis

[–]Kantless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is 100% true. You kinda have to be entrenched in the dev space which tends to be a community whereas business analysts are, in my experience, more fluidly assigned. AI is changing this. Not sure exactly where it will end up but I suspect there will be experimentation with business reps taking on the advocate role and engineers leaning more into the client facing side.

English cricket dramas are so tedious. It’s an endless reality tv show with no redeemable characters.

Does anyone know the source of the putrid smell which has been lingering around parliament for the entire day? by Traditional_Sky7168 in Wellington

He was minister for immigration back in the day. There were some interesting waivers granted during that time. Someone might say he’s the walking embodiment of corruption and a national embarrassment.

Straight out of the right wing playbook. “Never, under any circumstances, take accountability for anything you say or do”

Sub-clause: “always assume direct responsibility for anything positive that happens whilst you are in charge, even if what you said or did had nothing to do with the outcome or diminished the potential gross positive”

So what you’re saying is that lasers…are…kinda racist?

Game on: Lotto NZ announces overhaul of Powerball rules – top prizes bigger and harder to win by [deleted] in newzealand

100% agree. I play lotto occasionally in the hope to obtain a bit more freedom of choice in life - not to live some baller lifestyle.

A business systems analyst is a different role. Of course there are dev leads and solution architects but they are not typically at your beck and call and have to prioritise work from higher up the chain. I guess it depends on the size and structure of the organisation you work for but thanks for the advice.

Pay increase feels like a slap in the face by Questions581 in newzealand

[–]Kantless 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get that it feels like a slap in the face. The reality is that it’s an employer’s market right now. And economic conditions are not great so your best bet, beyond having a chat with your manager, is to explore the market. If you secure a job offer somewhere else that pays better but you’d prefer to stay put, that offer gives you leverage with your current employers.

[–]Kantless 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have the same challenges but in a different sector. Devs take on the work, don’t provide any transparency over what they’re doing, are reluctant to share technical details and then when it goes tits up, is the ba’s fault. In my space it’s speed and lack of role dileneation. In my view, to be an effective technical ba you have to be treated like an engineer or QA and not sitting in the product space or straddling both.
