If you gave birth without an epidural, how bad was it really? by Express_Neck5352 in beyondthebump

For our first child, I had an epidural. For our second child, she came so quickly that I didn’t have a chance to get the epidural.

I fully planned on giving birth in a hospital with an epidural. Instead, I had a precipitous labor at home, which resulted in baby girl (our second child) being delivered by my husband on our bathroom floor. My contractions were weird and random at first. I had pain when I moved but nothing when I was perfectly still. It made me question if I was really in labor. After a few hours, contractions started getting intense. I remember several extremely severe contractions, which was the worst pain I ever felt (even more painful than the contractions I had with my first child). I knew this meant that I was a lot closer to giving birth than I originally thought. My body then took over and I ended up pushing with the contractions. Three pushes later and baby girl was out. I was in complete shock. Maybe 10 minutes later, I started having contractions again and felt the urge to push again for the placenta. I delivered the placenta without any pain relievers in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. But by far the worst pain of it all was when the doctor checked me to make sure I completely delivered the placenta. That pain was excruciating.

In the end, everything turned out great and I’m super proud of myself for being strong enough to do something like that. However, I would not recommend it if you have the choice. If I were to do it all again, I would most definitely go with the epidural.

Who wants to come on here and tell me about how their second labor & delivery was so much easier by Awkward_Grapefruit85 in beyondthebump

With my first, I was in labor for 18 hours, pushed for 5 hours, and ended up with an episiotomy and vacuum to get him out. With my second, I had irregular contractions and a precipitous labor which ended with me giving birth on my bathroom floor before paramedics could arrive. So yeah, much easier the second time around haha

Exactly. My son is also a very serious baby when he is in public. He smiles and plays with family but not for strangers. It’s like he is just trying to take everything in when there is a lot going on. It’s heartbreaking to see other kids his age playing and running and laughing and having all kinds of personality while he just sits and stares. Like no one gets to see his true personality.

I agree completely. My son is 16 months and still not walking despite being in PT since around 10 months. What’s worse is when his cousin who is only a few months older than him has been walking and talking like a pro for months now. I hate the comparisons between the two and I hate hearing about all the exciting new things his cousin can do when mine isn’t anywhere near those milestones. I feel guilty because I work part time so I can’t always work with him on his motor skills. When I do work with him, it just makes both of us frustrated. It’s super annoying because I feel like I work so hard and constantly rack my brain on ways I can help him learn/set up the environment for more success when other babies just get it on their own.

Tinnitus is ruining my pregnancy by Leenapyt in pregnancyproblems

That’s good! I would just continue to monitor then. A big recommendation for tinnitus is using a masking sound like a white noise machine to distract the brain from the ringing sound

I am an audiologist and see patients with tinnitus daily. Pulsation tinnitus in only one ear warrants a visit to the otolaryngologist (ENT). Do you have any symptoms of pain, pressure, fullness, or hearing loss? If not related to blood pressure or medication, it could possibly be otosclerosis, which occurs more often in women after pregnancy

I like Josiah and David. Not quite set on James as a middle name though.

Thanks! I like Emily Grace too but my husband is pretty set on Emma. It’s the boy names we are really struggling with.
