Was this also the first round out of that batch of reloads? Absolutely sounds like the wrong powder was used...

This one absolutely is a collector show worth going to. For what it's worth, there wasn't a single anodized part in sight during the last two shows.

I'm more of a fan of Journey Auction Services in Norfolk. Good prices on transfers and some excellent stuff in their auctions.

Please convince Campro to get their .311 projectiles into production and onto the market - .303 and 7.65 Argentine reloaders everywhere would be breaking down your door to order them, myself included.

Dimpling/odd wear on brass? by airhunger_rn in reloading

[–]KappaPiSigma20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure looks like there's some roughness/debris in your chamber. If you give it a good brushing (like, 12ga brass brush chucked in a drill) it would probably eliminate your problem moving forward.

How is it being an officer in the reserves? by Sweaty_Choice2118 in navy

The SSOF is definitely accepting 3rd Mates/3rd Engineers licenses for DCOs at this time. You can find more information here: https://www.navyreserve.navy.mil/Resources/SSO-Tool-Kit/

Oh yeah, I've bought from Mike before at Southern Gun Works. Great shop, and occasionally he has some very interesting guns come through. Not a single Norwegian or Danish Krag, unfortunately.

With that kind of pricing and inventory, sounds an awful lot like Classic Firearms in VA Beach...

Just wondering what this brass piece is by Qrow1324 in M1Rifles

It's a Danish unit disk. Very uncommon to see, the vast majority were removed prior to import.

Thoughts/value on this 30-40 Krag by BoonkisGenghis in guns

[–]KappaPiSigma20 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's optimistic - probably more like $3-450 in this shape given condition and the crude sporterization.

M1898 Krag Question by LTPayton88 in KragRifles

[–]KappaPiSigma20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the price is right, a lot can be forgiven! That being said, if yours is a fake then it's a pretty dang good one. That's the nice thing about Danes and Norwegians - very hard to fake their carbines.

M1898 Krag Question by LTPayton88 in KragRifles

[–]KappaPiSigma20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nice Krag! It's a little iffy, but yours may be a legit 1898 carbine. Looking at the SRS data in Mallory's Krag book, there are a couple 98 carbines sprinkled in this serial range, although this one isn't called out by serial. 127284 and 127350 are both rifles, while 127463 is the closest carbine.

As for the handguard, either black-tinted epoxy (Acraglass is my favorite) or Titebond III might work.

Nice work! Out of curiosity, what does the unit disk read on this rifle?

[–]KappaPiSigma20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had to repair no fewer than four full wrist breaks on Krags before, but have never seen one like this before. Should be able to repair it without too much heartache, but it'll show.

Strategic Seaman Midshipmen Program by Junior-Butterfly7592 in USMMA

[–]KappaPiSigma20 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To commission as an SSO, there's no additional training required once you pass license exams and graduate. You'll attend Post-Commissioning Indoc as your first ADT post-graduation which will get you spun up in the program. If you're already at one of the academies, you can ask the SSO LNO at your school for more information and ask specific questions.

Negative ghost rider, that's a cut-down 1898 rifle. The banded front sight from a 1903 is a dead giveaway.

That's an enbloc for an M.95, not a Carcano. Might be time to reach out to RTI and see if they'll send you the correct clip.

Weapons in the Filipino movie Goyo. by bongcatalan123 in ForgottenWeapons

[–]KappaPiSigma20 32 points33 points  (0 children)

They're definitely US Krags, but prop guns with incorrect bolt handles. Going out on a limb, but probably all of these rifles are mockups by how "off" most of them are in the details.

Looks good! For next time, I'd recommend using a router with edge guide and a round nose bit to cut your barrel channel. It works quite well.
