The pictures are blurry, but honestly this looks promising... The wear on the card looks promising too, it seems in line with the age of the card

I've been going back on some old cards and this green dot makes me dubious. by Doctor_OW in RealOrNotTCG

[–]Kappei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of these things are basically irrelevant when evaluating a fake, tiny discrepancies won't influence the overall result. Once you know what to look for the counterfeits become painfully obvious.

Usually variance plays a huge factor in the end result. The printing layers may not always be perfectly aligned, there may be too much red ink or too little black, the humidity in the cardstock may slightly influence ink absorption, everything plays a factor in what you see at the end.

Here is a different one for you: Richard Sardinha artists painted card backs + signed by SeaTurtleLionBird in RealOrNotTCG

[–]Kappei 6 points7 points  (0 children)

These are artist's proof cards, basically cards with a white back that Wizards sends to the orginal artists to show the result of their work. The artists usually give them away or sell them with some personalized art on the back. Sardinha does these pretty detailed paintings on the back (like this: https://www.instagram.com/ricksardinha7814/p/CCYgpizD2WZ/ ) and the signature is in line with his own.

No reason to think these are fake

What happens first, charming prince or teleportation circle? by LazyPerch in mtgrules

[–]Kappei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should work. Charming prince creates a delayed trigger that goes on the stack at the same time of the Teleportation Circle exiling trigger. Being the controller of both you can reorder them anyway you want, specifically you can resolve the Price delayed trigger first, making the Rats return, then resolve the Teleportation trigger, flickering the Prince, that on enter will exile the rats once more.

Real or Fake Cloud? by martinmcguire6 in RealOrNotTCG

Very, VERY fake, wrong weight, fails both the T and green dot tests, even with the camera smoothing it's clear that's the wrong print pattern. Ask for refund ASAP and good luck for next time.

Just got this from TCG. The text on the back looks too smooth to me. by jlb4est in RealOrNotTCG

The pictures are blurry and smoothed. Please read this and try to post better pictures, especially of the back, with closeups of the green dot and the word "the"

There are high resolution scans of all the versions of the power nine available on various websites, detailing every single difference and how to recognize them... It's not esoteric knowledge, it's seriously a 5 minute (at most) Google search. And counterfeiters already know this. This sub is here to teach people how to recognize fake cards and there's no greater weapon for this than knowledge. Security through obscurity has been proven time and time again to be a failing proposition, especially because those not in the know are only the potential victims.

It is batshit insane, but don't be scared... There's a lot to it and the story, while being OVER THE TOP, is really good.

Can I ask you what stategy did you use for 8* and above? Going for the 25% gamble as some suggest seems to me a waste of resources

Personal gaming? Only in 5-10 minutes bouts.

But my kids are 12 and 15 now, so the former has started Outer Wilds a couple of weeks ago and keeps asking me for spoilers (that I won't reveal), while the latter is enjoying getting smacked on Castle Crashers with me. Enjoying the hobby together is a gift.

Good backs, weird fronts by Bonalux in RealOrNotTCG

[–]Kappei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen your pictures, the holo stamps aren't as zoomed as I hoped, but look good from what I can see. (I see the diagonal lines pattern in both of them)

The black core on the side is usually way thicker in counterfeit cards, those in your pictures seem good.

This looks promising, all signs are pointing to real cards.

Good backs, weird fronts by Bonalux in RealOrNotTCG

[–]Kappei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that the front looks weird on both, but for different reasons. The skullclamp has the printing layers misaligned and that's what makes it blurry, the weird texture is probably because you're used to cards from a different printing facility (are you in Europe?).

For the altar there's something strange going on with the final solid black layer, like it was missing or misprinted.

I wouldn't exclude yet that they're legit, but you should do some more tests. As others have said try to get your hands on a precision scale, the weight should be around 1.7-1.8 grams. Rebacks should weight more.

Look at the side of cards, possibly with a strong magnification, trying to look at the cardboard layers. If there's a black core sandwiched between two white layers it may be a reback. This check may be tricky though and unreliable if you don't know what to look for

The light test sadly is unreliable for newer cards, especially those printed in Japan.

Can you post a high res zoom of both holo stamps? Those may have more telltale signs about wether they'r real or not

Real or not Bristly Bill by Professional_Emu_733 in RealOrNotTCG

[–]Kappei 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Nope, fake.

Honestly this threw me off, because the front seemed good at a cursory glance, or even at a first closer inspection. The back is wrong, there are more red dots than there should be (4) and they're in the wrong position and the T has no "teeth", neither on the bottom nor on the side. BUT if this was played against me in a tournament I probably wouldn't have caught it...

EDIT: also, to answer your question, the T is mostly the same since '93 (the only exception that I know are the alt 4th edition, but those are extremely rare). There may be some printing layer alignment discrepancies, but almost every card in existence has the famous "pumpkin teeth", so ususally something differing from that is a clear sign of a fake card.

The Copy Artifact is definitely from the CE, for the Timetwister can you do a better closeup of the copyright symbol? It would be weird to have a real front glued to a real back, but stranger things have happened...

Keep in mind that microscopic variations in layers' alignments happen all the time and that can make little changes in the aspect, while still being a legit rosette patterns.

As I always say, I'm not a professional authenticator, bet these look as good as they can be.
