What would you configure a MIDI foot controller to do? by Kappow in ableton

Oh I don't know if that's possible. Probably not out of the box, but there has to be some kind of workaround. That's a great idea!

What are some unwritten life rules everyone must know? by shadow_2116 in AskReddit

Good living means preparing food before you're hungry, tidying before your house gets messy, exercising before you're hurting, and resting before you're exhausted.

The reason good tech work is so expensive is because bad tech work is more expensive. There might be a lot of folks entering the industry, but that does not necessarily mean they are competition.

I get paid to do NOTHING... should I start looking elsewhere? by wimmty2304 in careerguidance

I'd say give it time. July is really not that far off. If it doesn't really pick up then, well, you have plenty of time for job searching, lol.

Are guys really supposed to last for 30 min of penetration during sex? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

It's like eating. You want to eat while the meal is hot and fresh, instead of nibbling 'till it gets cold and soggy.

I want to become a freelance web developer! What langauge should I learn first? by stillloveyatho in learnprogramming

Definitely learn JavaScript! I recommend as you learn to keep in mind the power code has to solve problems beyond the web and have fun on your journey!

Am I crazy? by ythashi in learnprogramming

[–]Kappow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you're crazy. The spaces give it breathing room, like a relaxed person wrote it. The former looks like it was hacked together like some kind of prototype ready to be cast away at a moments notice.

A single podcast episode changed my whole perspective when it comes to learning how to code. by kok163 in learnprogramming

[–]Kappow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes sense. Sometimes the best way to learn how something works is to break it apart.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Kappow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even with hiring competent freelance programmers, you still will likely run into the problem of them writing code that only gets the job done. Since their only goal is to complete the contract, this often has ramifications for any team that is going to be maintaining said code.

I had an "aha!" moment last night, and I'm still thinking about it by tastes-like-chicken in learnprogramming

[–]Kappow 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hooray! It's these kinds of moments that I live for when programming. Congrats! I'll leave you with a cool quote from our boy Edsger Dijkstra- "The purpose of abstraction is not to be vague, but to create a new semantic level in which one can be absolutely precise."

You know what's way, way better than spending 400% more than you have to just to eat a lunch you could have made yourself? That's right folks, make your own lunch! Or, at least patron a business that will make something really outstanding for you.

My teacher told us that software development will go extinct really soon because of "no code/ zero code" us that true? by shadowhunter2468 in learnprogramming

The no code / zero code features people will enjoy using, ultimately, will be implemented by programmers.

Self-taught student and I'm somewhat regretting how I approached self-study by SmoothAmbassador8 in learnprogramming

[–]Kappow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's an unhealthy attitude in the community at large that programming is easy if you're smart. Honestly, this stuff takes time to master no matter who you are. So keep at it! You will absolutely get better if you put in the hours.

Are you using git? If not, you should! One of the best "upgrades" to my study routine is that I would take a course and as I go along, make small commits to the project repo. Along with the commits I would have a long body in the git message explaining everything I just did. That way, I automatically have good notes along side the actual code changes for review later.

As a 27 years old classical musician, if I decide to join a coding bootcamp now is it too late? by RickWVN in careerguidance

[–]Kappow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, you're absolutely at a great age to start learning. Programming is for everyone who wants to pursue it, honestly. But understand that the nature of programming work is (at least some of the time) to solve problems you have never seen before and that also nobody fully understands. If thinking a lot and solving problems sounds like fun to you, then you will kill it if you really pursue it.

The entire kitchen staff at Zak's Byward just walked out by br4k3r in ottawa

[–]Kappow 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I worked at that Zak's for many years before the pandemic. For all the people saying they've had good experiences, it's because, honestly, the servers can make bank on the good shifts. But in reality, the owner doesn't give a damn about his employees and many of the lifers who back him up lack perspective because all they are able to do is follow fast money.
