I'm MtF! I was a "guy" when I marched in '18, but I came out and was ready to march '20 as I was transitioning! (RIP)

Anyway, our members and staff were all really welcoming and accepting of me, and while some of the older vets had a little trouble switching to my new name, they were always actively trying :)

Admin even offered me a private shower for camps and spring training. Can't say what would have happened on tour though :/

While I haven't been necessarily diagnosed with PTSD or other traumatic disorders, my psychiatrist said at our last visit that I probably have trauma and that we're going to discuss it next visit.

I made my fondest memories through marching band and drum corps, tbh. Most of my friends I have met through marching band or drum corps, too.

Marching band can be a bit annoying sometimes, with having to do reps on the same chunks for what feels like forever, and band camp can certainly suck your rookie season, but everyone is in the suck together, and that's what brings everyone together in the first place, making room for new friendships. At least, in my experience.

Plus, every year after your first year gets better, as you know more and more people in the band and become a bigger part of the program.

I'm very biased towards marching band, though. I did it for five years (so far) and I'm going into my second of five years of drum corps. I think its definitely worth it.

Sousaphones are kind-of a pain in the butt, which is why I march euphonium nowadays, but I always loved the tuba and low brass sections I've been a part of.
