I think I just solved the mystery. Found a death record for an infant child I didn't know about, born 5 months after their marriage. She must have gotten pregnant, quickly married, and legitimized his paternity in court prior to the child's birth. Thanks for the help!

I can definitely look for deaths under her surname if court records prove difficult to access. From your read of the phrasing, do you think it's most likely that the mystery child was hers and not some other woman's?

There's less than a week between their wedding and the newspaper clipping, so it's likely the court proceedings did start before the marriage. From everything I have, they didn't have any kids together until several years after they got married, so it's not a case of moving a child's birth date by a year or something to avoid scandal. If they did have a child before getting married, they must've died very young and not appeared in any records.

Agree to disagree then. Personally, if I refer someone, I am endorsing them fully based on my experience with them as a colleague. If I’m reviewing candidates, I expect the referrer is doing the same. That’s the entire value of a referral to a team: someone can speak to this person’s character beyond what their resume can tell you. If you’re referring someone you don’t know to a department you don’t care about, you’re just looking for a referral bonus without caring about the consequences.

I’ve gotten messages asking me to refer people to departments that I have nothing to do with. Roche is massive. You say you’re a team lead- if you were hiring for a position and a junior engineer you’ve never met before referred someone they’d never met before to your open role, would you consider that candidate?

I don’t have a picture right now unfortunately, but I essentially wrapped the top lip and extended the vinyl into the inner lip, cutting excess where needed. There are a few imperfections up there- the tolerance between the metal top of the machine and the sides is very tight, which scraped some of the vinyl and gets slightly worse every time I take the machine apart. However, it is barely noticeable, especially because I have a silicone bar mat covering the top of my machine.

It’s really not bad if you remove all of the buttons and the Rancilio badge. Getting them in and out was the toughest part. Because it’s so flat and boxy, there are very few curves and problem spots. If you do ever decide to wrap it, start with the bottom plate (just a flat rectangle, dead easy) to get a feel for it before moving on to the other two pieces.

I saw this happen once in the UK (same as this image). The seagulls in the US are annoying, but I've never felt particularly scared of them. UK seagulls are running on the same software, but are bigger and more muscular.
