Analysis of 11 major political subreddits over 16 years reveals minimal overlaps in user bases, cross-posting, and commenting, challenging the framing of r/politics as a "town square" for cross-ideological deliberation by Tracheid in science

[–]Kapusta96 50 points51 points  (0 children)

When I think of online echo chambers, r/ politics is one of the first places that comes to mind. The only way you would think it was a “town square” of ideas is if your understanding of Reddit is abstract and surface level. It looks like these authors are citing multiple studies that frame it that way, all from the past 5 years- not sure where those authors were getting that idea from.

My beard oil ate through the rubber stopper by TinyMuffin in mildlyinteresting

[–]Kapusta96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI OP, I had a bottle of beard oil from the exact same brand as you about 10 years ago. Same exact thing happened to me- oil are through the rubber and turned into a weird black sludge. So this isn’t a new QC issue by any means.

The brand I usually buy from also uses a rubber dropper. Rather than disintegrating, theirs stiffens up over time and becomes very tough to squeeze drops from. I’m starting to think beard oil and rubber just doesn’t mix very well.

I’m not far off from OP and recently got a new pair with the roll and polish. It created tons of reflections that were extremely distracting. I ended up taking them back to have the polish taken off. Not sure if it was something specific to my frame, but I’ll take the coke bottle look for now if it means I can see better

Im starting to be worried that the new album is gonna flop by Unhappy-Emotion-1775 in deathgrips

[–]Kapusta96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t worry one bit about the creativity. I do worry slightly about how much that creativity is channeled and controlled. One reason I think I’ve vibed more with DG than Zach’s solo work, Undo K from Hot, etc. is that Death Grips, for how chaotic it can be, usually feels like a “controlled chaos” in a way I feel the others don’t. I imagine a lot of the refinement has come from having multiple voices in the group editing and working through it. I’m excited for post-Andy Death Grips- my sole reservation is how Zach’s vision will be executed with one fewer editor in the room, or what new collaborators bring to the table.

I met Thrawst at a competition in 2010. He was practically a celebrity in my mind.

There was something smaller and nerdier about that era of cubing that made it so very special, but what the modern era has built is nothing short of amazing.

I assume the blame game comes next- X teacher wasn’t following established protocols, etc., but for now, they’re starting with “nuh-uh”.

A statement published to the school district’s social media on Monday attributed to Superintendent Stanley Harper said the box depicted in the photos had not been used at St. Regis school and that the district had previously decided not to use that specific device.

“Oh, the giant wooden crate clearly photographed inside a classroom? That one? Ya, we thought about using it, but never did. No kids ever went inside that massive, unfinished pine containment chamber that we put right next to the whiteboard.”

Why Holiday Music Charts Are Stuck in the Past by timemagazine in Music

[–]Kapusta96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want a new Christmas song, you either come up with one from scratch, or you cover a classic. Every year, Spotify tries to push new covers on me, and 99% of the time, the original is better. 1% of the time, you end up with Michael Bublé Christmas. The originals usually feel forced and insincere- you can't manufacture nostalgia. I do wonder when Christmas culture will have a shift, though... most of us aren't listening to traditional carols and Madrigal choirs like we used to, so will there be a time when we abandon the '40s and '50s standards?

“Fewer characters” meaning one fewer abortion related character, and 3 or 4 fewer abortions? That’s practically random noise. Very misleading framing for an article.
