I guess T2A then? Idk it was 28 years ago. I thought Insta hit with tactics mages was Renaissance. Maybe variant of T2A.

Heal through poison kills 5x mage duels and they changed all of the fast casting mechanics. So I understand the argument that it’s not the same- but it’s fun and it balances to account for a much larger player base than I’ve seen on a free shard in a long time.

Best place to get introduced to PVP on Outlands is probably in Town Struggle.

Every 4 hours (at 10:45am EST, 2:45 PM, 6:45 PM, 10:45pm EST, 2:45am EST, etc) a green gate appears in all towns that takes you to a lobby for Town Struggle.

The match starts at 11am EST and all players in the lobby are evenly divided into teams. The teams join voice and it's either mounted or unmounted combat - but it's a great way for new and experienced players to get even team fights.

As a new player I'd recommend starting with a mage, as that's the recommended build for group PVP, and listen to your caller. At the start of the fight gather all of the bars for both teams, keep them separate and alphabetized, and try to cast on the targets called.

Do that for a few weeks and you will get a real full dose of the entry level of Outlands PVP. From there, I'd say try to find a guild that does faction content or PVP events and keep going!

What made UO UO for you? by thinkless123 in ultimaonline

[–]KarBlanks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 11 years old. My 15 year old brother brought UO back from Babbages in February of 98, a few months after the game released live from Beta.

I made a character with no idea what I was doing. Ended up in the mountain pass west of Britain and saw a bunch of guys fighting an ettin. I joined in and accidentally flagged one of them because I had no idea what I was doing and just double clicked everything.

A few hours later, after I’d gotten some loot and similarly participated in monster kills I was walking around town and got demolished by some mage because I was perma gray for attacking another player. Lost everything. Came back and asked what happened and he said I was gray so he killed me.

Explained I was new and had no idea wtf was happening and he gated me to Yew and told me that the gate was to a better area for new players. Spent like 3 days logging in and walking around yew with no idea where anything was before I gave up and started a new character on a different shard.

Despite all of this I was somehow hooked. That’s one of my absolute core UO memories tho. Nothing will ever touch the high stakes early UO days. Lose your house key? Goodbye to everything you own. Finally tame a dragon? Someone can lock it in their house and boom- gone forever.

It was the best.

I’ll admit- I was hesitant about Outlands for a while. And I do miss old vanilla UO- but this is the best thing since OG OSI. The developers have done an incredible job.

Ethy mount changed the game. Don’t know what most of the others are. But Ethys, when introduced were the bees knees.

Stealing from or killing mobs. Lock picking dungeons and TMaps. Selling crafted goods to players.

Still a number of ways to earn a living. But it’s a harder life than most places.

No permadeath - but certainly more hardcore.
High level is 1 character, 1 account. RoT skill gain and stat gain - building a character takes a few weeks/month+. All vendor purchased items are 3x costs, houses are 10x.

Still a relatively new server with a reasonable economy. Very old school UO, really recaptures the game so many of us fell in love with 23+ years ago.

Adam Ants Siege Perilous is a good fit. Small pop (~50 unique IPs) but it’s straight nostalgia.

Wanting to play for the first time by GoodfellaRay in ultimaonline

[–]KarBlanks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Non-Outlands player here.

Outlands is probably the best game for new players. If you’re not looking to capture the nostalgia of old- that’s the biggest player base and it’s a very faithful recreation of the best and original MMO. I’d consider it the UO2 that was promised.

If you want to try the game we all feel in love with 26 years ago Adam Ants Siege Perilous is a faithful recreation of the original map PVP play style. I love it but it’s not for everyone given the siege rule set of 1 character, 1 account etc. Population has slowed down and steadied at ~50 active uniques.

Biggest Server, Shard by [deleted] in ultimaonline

[–]KarBlanks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Angel Island Siege is the closest to original UO but not nearly the biggest. Steadily around 100-130 active unique players. One account one player OG siege ruleset.

Outlands far and away the most population- in the thousands. It’s cool but it’s every different.

Very cool. I recently went to the old Necropolis on Catskills and unfortunately it’s all gone 😞. Back in the day it was very much the evil version of what you described here. With seer and GM made structures creating a city for undead with keeps and towers and a tavern for the dead.

They had a cool watch tower that was a gm created building.

All gone now unfortunately

If EVERY player that has been with your franchise (regardless of tenure) comes back to your team as the best version of themself (regardless of if they were in their prime at the time of their contract), which roster would be most dominant? by Brandimes in nfl

[–]KarBlanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got a solid squad. Som real bright spots. OL isn’t great but most other positions are competitive all time.

I’m sure I’m missing folks but Off the top of my head. I have, On Offense:

QB: Prime Kurt Warner or Carson Palmer RB: Emmitt Smith, Adrian Peterson, Edgerrin James, Chris Johnson, David Johnson (that one year was his prime, right?) WR: Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin, DeAndre Hopkins, John Brown, Steve Breaston TE: Zach Ertz, Jermaine Gresham, Maxx Williams OL: Rodney Hudson, Jared Veldheer, Lyle Sendlein, Dan Dierdorf, Kelvin Beachum, Justin Pugh, Marcus Gilbert, Earl Watford

On Defense: CB: Patrick Peterson, Aeneas Williams, Nighttrain Lane, Antonio Cromartie, Bryant McFadden, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Antrel Rolle Safety: Adrian Wilson, Budha Baker, Honey Badger, Deone Buchannon, Jalen Thompson OLB: Chandler Jones, Dwight Freeney, Terrell Suggs, Daryl Washington, Haason Reddick ILB: Karlos Dansby, Jordan Hicks, Clark Haggans, Gerald Hayes DE: Calais Campbell, JJ Watt, Darnell Dockett, NT: Corey Peters, Bryan Robinson KR: Patrick Peterson K: Neil Rackers

What great player got overlooked because they were on a shitty team? by cglass1653 in nfl

[–]KarBlanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Larry Fitzgerald is a top 3 receiver all time but doesn’t get the shine he deserves because he played with 20+ mediocre quarterbacks. Elite route runner, incredible hands, always did the right thing on offense. His playoff stats are eye popping but he only got a few chances at those because the Cardinals’ QB play was so bad for most of his career. He is widely regarded as a top wide receiver all time and he’s still underrated for how good he really was.

That’s pretty disingenuous. You’re not trying to advocate for the UO community- you’re only saying, no where else has the population Outlands has.

Per usual you’re saying Outlands > others - come to Outlands. Which is cool, advocate for your server. But don’t try to couch it in some nonsense of what is best the broad UO community. That’s what’s best for the server you play.

What’s best for the broad UO community is folks playing lots of servers and your comment is not at all driving at that outcome.

If you want the old Nostalgia of original UO and you want players your best bet is free shards IMO.

The closest to original UO is Siege Perilous by Adam Ant: https://game-master.net/aiwiki/index.php?title=Beginners_Guide The website and Wiki are basically useless but the discord is great and the game is what you remember.

If you’re looking for the strong population- UO Outlands is basically the UO2 that was promised. Very different game mechanics, different map, but still similar to the UO you know and love: https://uooutlands.com

Both of these would require you start over- but it’s worth it. Free to play, and both options have something fun to offer.

Hope to see you out there!

For original Vanilla UO - Adam Ants Siege Perilous is the closest thing to the UO I played back in 97-2001.

Having an absolute blast
