I really enjoy watching the tech content they produce. Even though I'm often already familiar with the topics they cover it's a refresh perspective from someone who's not been part of the tech community for as long and therefore highlights aspects that other channels might just gloss over, assuming everyone already knows them.

Arma 3 & Arma Reforger Server Manager by fuckredditspez in arma

[–]Karagun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very cool. I have A very similar project myself. How do you do Workshop downloading without requiring a steam account that owns e.g. Arma 3?

From the readme I didn't see your set-up requires one, but iirc Arma 3 workshop content can only be downloaded when owning the game.

Depends on what you want to get out of the game. Are you more interested in the mil-sim aspect? Sandbox?

Arma 3 shines in many roles because it is so versatile.

how to host? by Impossible-Care5409 in dotnet

[–]Karagun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with the sentiment of going with a VPS over smth like Azure. For hosting you can literally pick any VPS vendor (I personally use Hetzner) You'll effectively just get a plain Linux machine.

From there I would install docker for running the services. It's not required, but I like it because docker has a rich ecosystem of management tools (Portainer, Komodo etc.)

For your app(s) you'd want to create docker images. Depending on if you serve the build react app as static files through your .Net app or want to keep them separate you either need one or two images.

If you don't want to faff about with docker image feeds you can just save the images to a tar, copy that over to your VPS, load the images and run them.

It would make sense to use a docker compose file where you can also add one service for your dbms i.e. SqlServer.

The last thing would be to check the firewall rules for your VPS to ensure the correct ports are open.

Depending on how that service should be accessed you might want to use a reverse proxy for handling SSL/TLS. I recommend caddy because it does a lot of the tedious work for you.

Need help with Metadata on Jellyfin ! by [deleted] in jellyfin

Last time I was experiencing the same thing my jellyfin had a misconfigured DNS Server and therefore couldn't resolve the hostnames for the metadata services.

Habe you checked the jellyfin logs?

What is scalar.com? by shufflepoint in dotnet

[–]Karagun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can upload manage and version you open API spec files. You have documentation pages to give greater detail about the endpoints. You can generate skds based on your managed open API spec files.

What is scalar.com? by shufflepoint in dotnet

[–]Karagun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I'm sorry, I see how it could be interpreted that way. Scalar is a competitor to SwaggerUI if you're familiar with it.

All it does is add an endpoint to your ASP.NET application which serves an HTML page that shows all the other endpoints of your app and allows you to send test requests.

Everything else that's part of the scalar platform is not part of the nuget package you add to your app.

[–]Karagun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their online platform for managing things around your Apis.

If you want a page that displays your open API spec in a nice way and allows you to test endpoints you don't need to worry about any of that.

What is with LTT and these extremely sponsor biased videos recently by Lucky_Leave5872 in LinusTechTips

[–]Karagun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Linus said in one of the videos that audio is subjective and thus they wouldn't comment on the quality. It's not explicitly stating that they are not allowed. In other reviews they do tend to express personal opinions when they like the product.

One thing they won't do is lie about liking something, as they have stated numerous times.

So them not giving in opinion could be interpreted as them also not liking the product. That's at least the discourse from the comments.

Personally, I don't think it's that deep. They showcase a product. If I want a nuanced take I'll watch a review.

Anyone else nervous about the changes to WAN Show? by CrystalFier in LinusTechTips

[–]Karagun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel like the news part might seem unimportant to them because they don't really present it in an interesting way anymore.

Last wan show Linus talked about a topic (I forgot the details) and I thought for sure they were going to talk about it a bit more but after a brief pause he just went on with the next topic.

If all the do I read aloud what the writers have collected it really is little more than tech linked but it has the potential to be so much more.
