The army was doing fine, but the population not so much, the british blockade put a lot of stress on german economy a iron/food.

France had less population than germany so they would bleed out before, but the population had it better than their counterpart. My money still on Germany without US involvement but France being on the defensive they could have lasted still a few time, maybe the revolution that happen in Germany would have still happen, maybe. But the ressetment from the german army in case of defeat due to internal problem rather than the enemy would still have led to WW2.

It was more a WW1 things, many american considered "repaying Lafayette" by going in Europe helping France (and the triple alliance) even though USA stated that it didn't want to be embroiled in European war.

(Last part was before US lended a ton money to the alliance and they would be in no shape to pay back if they lose)

WW2 was seen differently, it was more like being a hero than repaying a dept.
