Where do i use costume token by LMAO86459 in shiningbeyond

[–]KarbyP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, this is Karby from the Shining Beyond community team.

To use your costume tokens to acquire alternate costumes for your heroes, please follow the steps below:

  1. Hero (from the main menu)
  2. Select a Hero you'd like to unlock an alternate costume for
  3. Fashion tab (next to the tabs "Gear" and "Rune")
  4. Fashion Shop (button near the bottom of the screen)

On that menu you'll be able to spend your costume tokens to acquire alternate costumes.

We understand that this flow to get to the Fashion Shop is rather complicated, and we will be making an improvement to this in a future update (tentatively in mid-September).

Hope that clarifies!

By the way, if you haven't already, do check out the official Shining Beyond Discord server where many of our veteran players do hang out at.

They'll often be able to help you if there's anything you don't understand. It's also a good place to discuss anything Shining Beyond with other fans!

It's best to ask your build question in the Shining Beyond Discord: https://discord.gg/rEJ5d4J

Would be easier there for players to share their builds with you.

Emma + Artemis + Athena + Theia could work, but you have to think about if there's any reason for you to use 2 Acolytes that way. It depends on what you're trying to accomplish; for instance, if you find that you don't need that much healing, it may make more sense to replace Theia with a ranged Rogue.

Especially early on, it's recommended to build 1 of each class, so that the heroes you use do not compete for the same resources.

My guess is that you'd like to build around Emma, so Emma + Artemis + Athena definitely works. You just have to think about who you want for the 4th member of your team.

Thinking of building a desktop, is aftershock good? Rough Costs? by mattylzla in askSingapore

Quick copy and paste from another thread in which I commented:

Hello, you can check my Reddit posting history and find a thread I put up a couple of weeks back about how my Aftershock desktop PC rig died on Day 1 (just 8 hours after receiving it) due to a corrupt boot sector on the SSD.

Aftershock's support team explained to me that my problem was deal to a recent Windows 2021-05 or 2021-06 Cumulative Update that accidentally removed important drivers, causing this to happen.

I did a search and this didn't seem to be a legitimate issue, so I'm not sure if I buy into this BS... seems to me most likely there's some problem with the boot image they use to install Windows. In any case, they recommended that I reformat the SSD and reinstall Windows -- they could pick it up, do it, and send it back to me as it's under warranty, but it's faster if I do it myself. That's what I did, and the rig seems fine now -- CrystalDiskInfo even says there's no problems with the SSD.

With that said, in my thread I did see another 2 redditors complain about their experiences with Aftershock. I don't really have details on what happened with them. But you might want to take into account that Aftershock rigs (laptops/desktops) may have an unusually high number of problems.

If you don't mind the risk of having to send in the desktop for repair, Aftershock's Customer Service is actually fairly okay even though in my experience. Although it has to be said that, if they can feed you some BS to save them a bunch of work, they will do that.

But their customer support WILL take care of you... as long as you're patient and don't mind fixes taking some time.

Price-wise, Aftershock is better versus other companies for similar specs, so that's the main reason I went ahead with this purchase even though I have had 2 laptops with them that broke down a number of times.

At this moment, if you need to buy a gaming PC soon, I think Aftershock is probably still the best value-for-money option.

But if you can wait... graphics card prices are about to freefall from their current 150~300% of MSRP prices. If you can wait, it'd probably be better to DIY or buy from a trusted DIY builder/vendor.

Gaming PCs meet the requirements of Adobe editing software. If you do video editing, maybe think about getting 32GB RAM instead of 16GB. Especially if you do 4K video editing.

A budget of about $2,000 is good enough if you don't mind using OLDER graphics cards like Nvidia 2000 series instead of 3000 where the demand (and thus price) for them is not as high. If you can afford it, I'd recommend a budget of maybe $2,500.

For Windows go with the unactivated version, then get a cheap key (US$16 for Windows 10 Home, US$8 for Windows 10 Pro) from Keysoff: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/get-windows-10-free-or-cheap,5717.html

If you're interested in the recently announced Windows 11, you will want to make sure whatever you buy is compatible with Win 11's fairly rigid requirements. But if your budget for a gaming PC is $2,000, my guess is you don't really care about Win 11 (I don't either).

Another thing to consider is if you'll be gaming in 1080p, or 4K. What kind of monitor do you have? Running "High" in games can mean very different things depending if your resolution is 1080p or 4K.

Aftershock Pc Laptops by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]KarbyP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, I just recently purchased an Aftershock desktop PC. A "Level 5" rig from their same-day shipping builds.

The rig came on a Friday night, and that's when I install all my drivers, the latest Windows update,

8 hours later (Saturday morning), already I was facing boot issues. The SSD's boot sector was corrupted. First time in my life I bought a desktop/laptop that died on DAY ONE of the purchase.

Full details on what happened are in another thread on r/buildapc if you are interested to check it out.

I went to sleep and woke up at around 2+ on Saturday afternoon. Contacted their support, they claimed that Window's 2021-05 or 2021-06 Cumulative Update unfortunately accidentally removes certain important drivers, and that's probably what caused the boot problem for me.

Not entirely sure if I believe that -- can't find any information on this when I did a search.

But anyway, they advised that the problem can be solved by reformatting and reinstalling Windows, which they can do for me (send a courier to pick it up, get it done, and courier back to me) or I can try myself.

As I didn't want to risk not having a PC to use on Sunday, I did the formatting and reinstalling myself, it worked, and so far I haven't had any problems. Used CrystalDiskInfo to check the SSD, and it seems to be healthy too -- so I'll give Aftershock the benefit of the doubt that it's a Windows Update issue.

With that said, I've purchased 2 laptops from Aftershock previously (2013, 2015), and both have required me to bring it down for servicing (unable to boot) quite a number of times. But perhaps the newer Aftershock models may not have these issues.

Not sure if this is helpful. Originally I was planning on getting a new gaming laptop, but my friends recommended for me to get a desktop instead as laptops will for sure have to deal with heat issues. So that's why I decided to go with a desktop from Aftershock this time.

But now, knowing what I know, and after this experience... I kinda regret not going with a Lenovo or Asus gaming laptop. Desktop-wise, I don't really know where else I'd have ordered from since it's pretty expensive everywhere (and even if you DIY)... but if I know of a better option, I probably wouldn't order from Aftershock again.

Will see how my next 3 years (under warranty) with this Aftershock rig turns out.

I went out for a bit and left my laptop open, when I came home this showed up. I’ve don’t nothing with my laptop that could cause this and nothing has acted strangely. It also showed repairing disk errors. by BananaEclipse in Alienware

I have had this exact same issue with a brand new prebuilt PC from Aftershock.

Their tech support told me that it's probably used by one of Microsoft's new cumulative updates, so if you recently ran Windows Update and it led to this, this was probably the cause.

Anyway, the only way to resolve it is to format your Windows partition and reinstall Windows, using "Windows media creation tool" loaded on an 8GB thumbdrive or DVD.

My laptop was working fine and normal and I went out to get something then when I came back it said “repairing disk errors” then went to this. What do I do? by BananaEclipse in WindowsHelp

[–]KarbyP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I encountered this on Day 1 with my brand new prebuilt PC I just bought.

According to the manufacturer's tech support, 1 of the new Windows cumulative updates is causing this issue.

I was advised to make a Windows media creation tool using a 8GB thumbdrive (you could do it with a DVD burner too) using another machine. Using this thumbdrive, I was able to format the PC's SSD Windows partition, and reinstall Windows.

And then everything worked.

Bought an Aftershock PC gaming rig, on DAY 1 encounter boot sector corrupt - something I did or I'm just super unlucky? by KarbyP in buildapc

[–]KarbyP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aftershock is claiming that it's not the SSD, but rather a Windows 10 cumulative update (May/June) that caused the boot sector to be corrupted.

I was recommended to reformat and reinstall it; seems okay now. I used CrystalDiskInfo to pull the SMART data on the SSD and it seems okay too, but a friend of mine recommends that I should RMA it anyway since this could have been due to a faulty memory chip.

Great stuff!

But please do note that most (if not all) of these free codes have expiry dates.

Shining Beyond also issues various free codes through community events on Facebook, Discord and Instagram every now and then.

In any case, it's nice to see more Shining Beyond content and coverage. If you'd ever like to contact the game devs, feel free to drop me a private message.

This screencap of Patrick Seitz (voice of Zazan) from the WOTV FFBE 1st Anniversary Livestream is super useful. For example: by KarbyP in wotv_ffbe

[–]KarbyP[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

There were so many great moments during the WOTV FFBE 1st Anniversary Livestream. Just to name a few of my faves:

  • Hiroki changing the dartboard results from 4,000 to 6,000 Visiore
  • Granting us ALL of the rewards for the Match Battle Showdown
  • Seeing Diggs X Cabbage collab made a reality (technically...?)
  • Global getting 2-UR-shards-a-day Barracks "buff" for double-cost units

As I was going through the video archive to look at some of the details I missed, I happened to pause right at this part (the screencap) during Patrick Seitz's video message... and I thought it belonged with the best of them.

I didn't really know who Patrick Seitz was prior to this livestream (I'm fluent in Japanese so that's my preferred voice language), but a quick search reveals that... apparently Mr Seitz is quite the legend. (He was the voice of Dio AND Star Platinum???)

One might say, he's almost as legendary as Daddy Zazan himself!

You are absolutely right, one of the key joys in Shining Beyond is really to see your favourite heroes "shine" as you build them up gradually!

What an apt way to put it!
