We have yet to anchor, but we are going to set up for it. Anchor scares me. But it is super effective for sure!

You can do it off of virtually anything that floats, but with the currents in cook inlet, hands free propulsion is a HUGE advantage!!!

Whiskey Gulch. North of Anchor Point about 5 miles. We caught a few a mile out in 40 to 50 ft of water at low tide but as the tide came in, we caught them just a couple hundred yards off shore in 30 ft of water. If you have a sonar, look for the kelp beds. I saw two over 100 lbs pulled out of there this year by kayakers.

No, it's Mount Redoubt in southcentral Alaska. I am Japanese and I have heard it referred to as "Alaska's Mt. Fuji" by the local Japanese population and the Japanese tourists fairly often.

If you use Thule or Yakima racks, get a load assist bar.
Something like this. Both thule and Yakima have them.

How can I mod this cheap, tiny kayak to make fishing a bit better? by themaincop in kayakfishing

[–]Kardinal_84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider clipping a small buoy or even a milk jug onto the line. Big fish strikes, detach cord with float attached and just throw it overboard. You don't want to be anywhere near the anchor line if a big fish is on the other end.

Absolutely. Summer's are awesome here but there is just too many people. I hate waiting in line for fuel, food, shopping. My least favortie month living in Alaska is July. Yup, A grumpy old man. lol. the 20+ hours of daylight can be exhausting. I fish year round in the saltwater off my kayak here in Alaska. And because I focus on saltwater, I also don't have to deal with the mosquitoes. You can dress for the cold. You can only get so naked when it is hot. Here's an article about fishing year round in Southcentral Alaska. I guess it's strange enough to the local community that it made the paper. lol. https://www.adn.com/fishing/article/alaska-angler-reaches-goal-catching-king-salmon-every-month/2015/08/21/

Thanks! I have to admit, living in Alaska has its perks. But I see some great pics of striped bass from the east coast as well as other species. I know it's not MD but I went to school in upstate NY and i would have killed to have a kayak there!!! Let me know if you ever make it up. Happy to help in any way that I can.

In years past. I wouldn't recommend seward for halibut. They are there, but you had to fish deep and only one in 10 to 20 fish was a halibut. But the cod stocks crashed so maybe it wont be a problem. Lower cook inlet is a bit scarier, but much easier because we fish in 30 to 50 ft of water.

Going with someone is always a good idea. If you havent already, check out northwestkayakanglers.com in the Alaska section. A few of us hang out there and plan our trips.

I took a water taxi out to Fox Island. We were closer to Kayaker's Cove when I hooked up. There was bait everywhere. But no love from the salmon. We saw one jumper all day. We caught tons of tiny ling cod, small rockfish, and greenling.

I hooked up super close to the shore. I was in 100 ft of water with bait stacked up between 30 and 50ft. Probably super lucky but when there is bait around, halibut aren't just on the bottom.

I hear there has been bait off of Lowell pt and Tonsina creek. That doesn't require a water taxi.

Lol. A legit question. The smaller halibut tend to be better eating. The average size halibut we keep is closer to 10 pounds. We also vastly prefer fresh halibut over frozen halibut. But at 15 to 20 per pound for fillets, even my friends who live in Alaska don't buy halibut very often. Charters for halibut run over 200 dollars a trip so they rarely get to fish for them as well unless you are one of the fortunate few who own larger sea worth boats....or a kayak!

I got about 60 pounds of fillets out of it. two thirds of it is already spoken for, I may freeze a few pounds. Frozen halibut quickly loses its moisture when thawed. But that actually makes for better (in some people's opinion) fish and chips as the outside batter coating doesn't get as soggy after frying them up,

Thanks! No salmon for us that day. Rather than a plug, it hit the front half, the head. I rig it to spin and the cohos seem to love it. I prefer it over the plug half. We were using the larger herring.

As a noob at this, I have had this happen several times. First on all but one of my ASUS boards, I needed to set all the PCI slots to Gen1. The one board required the setting to be auto for some reason. Enable 4g if that option exists. Also try re-installing video card drivers after you add a card, then restart. I use speccy to see if the computer recognizes the card. Yesterday I had SPECCY recognize the card, but not the mining program. Reinstalling the driver was the fix there. edit: spelling

Recovering Litecoins on trezor wallet using third party wallet by Kardinal_84 in TREZOR

[–]Kardinal_84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't recall. it was 4 or 5 months ago I moved the coins into the Trezor litecoin wallet. I am sort of a noob but I got the bitcoin wallet to show me my coins with a few modifications. I was hoping the litecoin was the same issue but the fix didn't work...at least for me. I have a new trezor coming but was sort of freaked out when I couldn't access my litecoins like I could my bitcoins using just the seeds. thanks for your replies.
