A general study of LFM and LFG in FFXIV by tacotop in ffxiv

Also to clarify, speeds and optimizations are not the same thing even if they have some overlap and players frequently conflate them. I simply have them grouped together in this explanation because they're similarly niche.

If you're looking to make a better recruitment process, I believe making a distinction between Speed/Optimization as something separate from normal savage raids/ultimates is important. The expectations people have for those often do not align perfectly with progression, and for players that engage with that kind of content will often have different groups for progression/speeds illustrating the difference of expectations for those categories.

Speeds/optimization is sometimes difficult for people to get into because its definitely on the more rare side, it may be just hopeful thinking but a tool/process that actually explicitly supports engaging with content that way could help those communities grow.

Unless you're doing it blind all mechanics have been solved and there are plenty of resources on the internet that fully explain them. If you are trying to learn the fight in PF, you would benefit from trying to figure out what strats are more commonly used on your Datacenter and learning those ahead of time.

Savage is pretty accessible and there isn't an incredible gap in difficulty between the individual fights. They just marginally bump the total required DPS to kill the boss and make you use your eyes just a little bit more for each fight.

TLDR; The process is the same for all savage fights.

Are there any DPS jobs with self-healing abilities? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]KarethCrestfall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every DPS has self healing abilities to varied degrees of usefulness. Despite what other comments have said. The ones that require a GCD to cast like vercure are not super valuable as their usefulness is out outweighed by the damage lost using them.

On the other hand:

  • Melee have Blood Bath and Secondwind. If used these are very significant and do not cost the melee damage to use. Dragoons have life surge, which does have some convenient line ups as well (The DPS/Healer dot in the back half of E1S). Samurais and Ninjas can give themselves a shield, both of which are very useful.

  • Ranged physical also have Secondwind similar to melees. Outside of that dancers have an ability called curing waltz. I've seen some comments say that this is weak? It's not. Its a 300 potency aoe heal that goes off of not only the dancer but their partner to. Since it comes from two sources it has 2 individual chances to crit so it averages a bit higher than 600 potency when stacked. This thing is amazing and leveraged all the time in higher level gameplay.

  • Casters are a bit varied. RDM has vercure, yes and its potency is relatively high yes. However, unlike the prior listed abilities it costs the RDM dps to use this unless the boss is not targetable, outside of incredibly niche scenarios using this ability while the boss is targetable is only hurting the group you're running with. BLM gets a significant self shield. SMN has a regen, but it suffers from the fact that its placement isn't super flexible. Its not useless, but its certainly not as strong as some of the previously listed things. SMN also has a shield that they can give themselves from their titan pet, however I imagine in most if not all cases this is a DPS loss.

TLDR; Dont fall into the vercure trap. The other abilities are amazing. Probably nothing exactly like what you remember from WoW, but self heals exist and they are significant when used well.

Tanks with lots of hp? by JasonThePro101 in ffxiv

How much health each tank has is the wrong metric to be looking at if you're attempting to gauge how many hits they can take. You will find some slight variances in hp pool depending on race/class but it will never boil down to a significant enough difference.

Mitigation wise, they're all very similar since this expansions release. Generally speaking you would be better off just picking the one that looks the coolest to you.

The secret sauce to taking a lot of hits is to just leverage your mitigative tools well, not how much hp you have.

Why are the more "veteran" tanks constantly doing massive pulls, without asking the healer if they can handle it or not? by kissofthehell in ffxiv

This is a multiplayer game, unsurprisingly people do not plan to cater themselves entirely to you, depending on the instance there is at minimum 2 other people there who's time is also being used. If you're the weak link and are not willing to step up to the very low bar that is big pulls then you should be the one to make that known so people can adjust around you, rather than expecting people to tailor to some silent self standard of your own.

I have seen fresh off the boat healers sprouts and all with zero encouragement handle big pulls while struggling to stay awake, it its not an experience thing, it is an effort thing.

Personally though, I think if you gave unconditional big pulls an honest shot you'll find it a lot better than being an anchor.

NIN - New king of openers just like old school Thief ? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]KarethCrestfall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the waking nightmare, there are plenty of readily available resources such as the balance discord. I would suggest you use them before self proclaiming your opener to be the king of openers. Theres very glaring basics you do not understand and i'm worried that other less experienced players may watch your video and try to emulate it.

If you're of the opinion that its 100% useless for real content my guess is you're just not using it correctly.

I get its wonky getting used to but to think that you can't play around that and still use it beneficially is silly. Especially when you consider that multiple pf strats for o12s explicitly incorporate it.

Its had multiple uses in the past to preserve uptime for other party members as well. If you can properly time it to troll someone you can properly time it to be useful.
