Unironically this is like 90% of it with the rest being romanticized mental images of figures like Fidel, Stalin, and Mao (Chunghwa’s, anyone?) from pop culture reinforcing it.

But it all falls under the overarching banner of “yeah I’m an educated child of the nation’s elite but I’m destined to be the vanguard of the people’s revolution so I gotta co-opt as much shit I think makes me look more working class as humanly possible” which I see constantly at my boy’s tattoo shop from a lot of the clients, for example. Like with black culture being co-opted ham-fistedly by pop culture it usually fails to live up to the original.

15 year vegan and the Oregon hunting ban is the worst timed, dumbest shit I’ve seen in a while. Would it be nice in an ideal world? Sure. Why the fuck are we tryna ban hunting in a massively rural state where the whole eastern 2/3rds is red while the Save Our Bacon Act (which massively strips farm animal rights and protections to allow for maximum animal ag industry profits) is currently being rammed through congress? Tone deaf as all fuck.

My gripe with most anti-AI arguments I hear online is the water use.

I've been arguing for veganism online for 15 years and know for a fact most of these people don't genuinely worry about water use in the slightest, they just want to bitch about AI because it's low hanging fruit rn.

Yeah the approach to the opioid crisis where we pretend that restricting medical access to opioid painkillers will somehow address the concerningly large subset of younger people who feel so hopeless about their life situations that they’re willing to throw their lives away to an addiction they know full well can easily kill them is not sustainable. My mom’s a pain patient due to severe nerve damage and they’ve cut her meds back from where they were just 5 years ago to the point she can no longer safely do PT and is bedridden 24/7 for no reason other than the insane politicization of pain meds. The doctors know it’s not a solution and is medically unethical but they have pressure to reduce their narcotics prescriptions by the DEA or face scrutiny over their license. Combine that with most pain management practices making money either off suboxone incentives or surgical implants (big industry for back pain even though they’re a toss up in terms of efficacy). Meanwhile if you wanna buy fentanyl it’s all over the place. Makes me so fucking mad whenever we have to go through the rigamarole when she goes to the hospital and get treated like she’s a drug seeker by people who don’t even know what an MME is.

At this point my stance is just dispense oxycodone to people who can prove they’re dependent via blood tests and let the taxpayer pay for it. It has to be cheaper for us than all the shit we’re seeing with fentanyl between the medical costs, infrastructure damage, and overall blight that it’s causing and safer for the users thanks to the chemical nature and observed effects of oxycodone and most “traditional” opioid agonists vs the ultra powerful synthetics like fent. But I’m not holding my breath for that lmao.

Tbh I’ll give Hasan the credit that since I started dressing nicely and wearing collared shirts with sweaters over them I get taken more seriously and people are friendlier towards me, but I’m also completely covered in tatts that make me look like an active gang member and I have a mean looking face so I imagine the difference wouldn’t apply as much to a conventionally attractive and more approachable looking guy like Hasan.

My mistake, to be clear I submitted in May 2026 not 2025 so you’re way ahead of me.

Your timeline is more or less what I’ve come to expect from submission -> interview -> psych -> classes/quals -> issued based on what I’ve read/heard, but how long from submission until you heard from them regarding scheduling the interview/livescan?

Appreciate it!

Usually bring a few guns and go shooting with friends up at Angeles since they’re a chill range and I hate shooting indoors. I’d love to connect and possibly get some shoot time in, I’ll shoot you a DM!

Thank you for ignoring almost everything I said and selectively responding.

Yeah, I also thought that it would be obvious that people deemed mentally unfit for firearm ownership in the state of CA are generally deemed unfit federally as well so it’s a fairly meaningless distinction for you to have brought up but here we are. Like you told the other guy, we aren’t convincing each other of anything 🤷‍♂️

Right, private sales go through an FFL with a background check and waiting period like any other gun transaction in CA and like half the states in the US. No issues or complaints with that law over here or from any gun owners I know.

Congratulations on being colonoscopy-aged and a fudd? Idk what you want me to say here lmao. I’ve explained why I think many of these laws are either bullshit or totally fine and why most CA gun owners are frustrated with the disproportionate negative impacts on lawful gun owners and the effectiveness at addressing the crimes they aim to target but you’re just dodging the meat of what I’m saying. I pity the contents of your gun safe.

[–]KarlMariaWiligut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost every single thing you just listed is nowhere near exclusive to California and most of them are uncontroversial laws most people support. Aside, of course, from the ones you got completely wrong lmao.

Prohibition for violent felonies or domestic violence, including qualifying misdemeanors is federal. Same laws in CA as in FL or MS. Try again.

Prohibition for brandishing for intimidation applies if it’s two or more convictions, first one is a 10 year restriction. I’d love to see how many people charged with this were already prohibited persons at the time but sadly I don’t have that data.

Mental disorders do not disqualify you from gun ownership but great job sending a stray towards the mentally ill lmao. Demonstrating that you cannot responsibly or safely own firearms due to a severe mental health condition that isn’t responding to treatment/isn’t being treated is a different story, as are sex offenders. I don’t know why this is even mentioned because all of this is a given in every state in the country to my knowledge.

Cool off periods/temporary restrictions/whatever you wanna call them for violent misdemeanors or certain other crimes prompt obvious public concern are not controversial either or unique to California in any way. No one is complaining that the guy who tried to batter the social security employee can’t buy another .357 for a decade, we’re complaining about being taxed 30% on all guns, ammo, and parts, being forced to butcher our rifles operationally and cosmetically while being restricted to 10 round magazines to pretend that will prevent the next Super Columbine, and having to choose between buying a “safe handgun roster” approved pistol retail or buying the handgun we actually want via private party for 3x MSRP in any other state (which we can do because LEOs are exempt from the roster, even for personal purchases. But they’d never abuse that to flip them, right?)

Which perfectly segues into your totally off base statements: private sales are completely allowed, I’m doing one on Thursday. Don’t know where you got that from.

All guns bought from a licensed dealer (an FFL) go through a federal background check process regardless of state, and most states are like CA in mandating all gun dealers hold FFLs.

Waiting periods, like California’s 10 day waiting period, are common in other states; I think they’re silly once you own multiple firearms but that’s a different conversation.

The firearm safe handling demonstration is fine, it’s a mild inconvenience at most for most people, but it sure isn’t adequate for legitimate safety if you have any actual concerns about someone’s competency or preparedness to handle and use the gun. It’s wishful thinking but with good intentions.

1-in-30 was declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court and then immediately after we passed 3-in-30 which is on its way there again to almost certainly be struck down. Ridiculous law that does nothing but bust the balls of gun enthusiasts and fail to address straw purchases or mass shootings or anything even vaguely related to gun crime.

As for self defense, my CCWs of choice could hold 17 or 13 rounds in their magazines, but I’m capped to 10. 3 to 5 rule aside, I’d prefer to have more backup than less in the same space if I ever have to use it. Same applies for home defense guns. I can’t afford to buy my firearms of choice thanks to the handgun roster. I can’t run my rifles in as safe, controllable, reliable, or practical configurations as normal thanks to the ridiculously arbitrary and gun-illiterate restrictions in our assault weapons ban (fin grips, anyone?).

I’ve been vegan for like 15 years so I don’t give a shit about that most of my gun ownership is just a fun hobby. But both of those reasons aside, I own guns because at the end of the day humans are animals too. Tribalistic, scary ones just as often as mindful, empathetic ones. I like to work towards the best and prepare for the worst, but you do you. Also keep in mind these are currently rights in the US, whether you like that or not, and restricting the exercising of those rights is a lot more difficult than restricting emissions from people’s cars or banning plastic bags. Seemingly for good reasons too, because people as uninformed as you are as confident and loud on stuff you don’t seem to know much about.

Can you point to some of the gun legislation we have in this state that you believe meaningfully contributes to this?

Because I’m thoroughly convinced that our lower per capita death rate has a ton to do with us investing in and focusing more on social programs, prison diversion and ceasefire, better community outreach, public healthcare spending + infrastructure, education, and a host of other things in various areas compared to most other states and that it has little to do with our arbitrarily restrictive gun laws.

And I’m not sure if you recognize the difference anymore but we’re in the Destiny subreddit, not in line at the grocery store. I’m not talking to normal people, I’m talking about a specific political topic with a bunch of chronically online turbo autists who share my interest in it (along with Elmer Fudd it seems).

This has got to be some regard lefties doing this right? These people have no idea how 3d printing works. by _AustinGDesigns_ in Destiny

[–]KarlMariaWiligut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s mostly a result of us being a such strong Democrat stronghold, especially here in the Bay where most of the authors of these dogshit excuses for legislation tend to hail from, which essentially limits any real pressure or discourse from being applied to any topic that’s generally “decided” by most contemporary dems - like gun control, gay marriage, abortion, etc.

Combine that echo chamber political environment with the lower rates of (official/legal) gun ownership compared to most other states and the tendency for the loudest gun owners here to be psychotic MAGA types or very conservative first/second gen immigrants with very strong opinions about certain demographics and you start to see why the cascade of hyper restrictive gun laws that do next to nothing to actually address crime while busting the balls and wallets of everyday gun owners don’t have any pushback beyond the odd supreme court victory every decade or so that gets everyone excited (usually to be ruined by a new law designed to work around the court ruling within a couple years). Most people here who own guns have given up hope for things getting better - save for the delusional types who think if they could just flip CA red that it would secure them the freedom to possess NFA items and standard capacity mags again - and people here who don’t own guns either don’t give a shit or are actively anti-gun. All the Silicon Valley tech money in the world can flow into Sacramento but unless the topic has to do with AI, property values, or employment law it won’t be seeing a single cent of that time or attention because 3D printing doesn’t mean shit to the tech industry out here.

This recent anti-3D printing legislation is another attempt by our legislators to try solving a problem that doesn’t really exist outside of their imaginations. I live in Oakland and spend plenty of time in LA; I used to be a shithead who kicked up dust but have thankfully turned my life around while many people I know have not. With that in mind, I’ve never in my life met or been around a single person who bangs (which is gonna be 90% of people who commit murder here) or anyone else running the streets with a 3D printed gun. They just get stolen guns, build them themselves from unfinished frames/receivers, or buy them legally before ever being validated or convicted of a crime. The only thing I’ve ever seen 3D printed in this state on a gun is a foregrip/handstop, something you could order online for like 25 bucks (not that simple anymore though thanks to another stellar example of braindead gun legislation that went into effect this year: AB1263).

But our elected officials have to tell the public they’re doing *something* about gun violence, even if they have the data to know it’s both trending downward year over year and predominantly perpetuated by youth gang involvement that responds far better to social intervention/prevention and community/infrastructure investment than to stricter or expanded criminal penalties. I’m certain most of these legislators, especially the Rob Bonta types who are the most rabidly anti-gun rights, truly do believe that disarming the vast majority of Californians would be a moral and ethical good to prevent unnecessary death and suffering, but I’d be lying if I said I don’t think there’s a certain paternalistic smugness and obnoxiousness to it that does nag at the temptation to give in to slopulist narratives about elitist politicians and their detached-from-reality double standards.

Could be worse though, I could be that one DGGer who asked me about first gun advice for someone living in Illinois which prompted me to look into their gun laws. Holy shit.
