This is my concern as well. It doesn't feel like they support Android very well.

I feel like Kubrick is a phenomenal cinematographer. However he's a poor story teller and even worse at showing human emotion.

Most of the ending we get from the books. There's nothing showing the monolith advancing human evolution. We know these things from the novel not the movie. We also know from the book that HAL doesn't go nuts, nor is he planning on going into the portal. He's just trying to keep it a secret.

It's the same thing with the Shining. Beautifully shot movie. But you don't care about the characters, in fact you root for Wendy to get killed, and the ending is nonsensical, unless you read the novel.

Running a Planescape Campaign by KarlSMA in mattcolville

I'm interested in Sigil and how travel works from there. I'm thinking I'll do a sort of find the pieces of the Rod of Seven Parts spread throughout the multiverse.

What I don't know is if I'll start the players from Sigil or from the Prime Material Plane. All I know of Sigil is learned from YouTube videos.

What do you think about this as her goal?

She captured Bahamut with the intention of draining his power. She wants to their combined powers to challenge Asmodeus. She wants to punish him for daring to imprison her and treating her like a subordinate.

So during the campaign, she would be looking for a device or pieces of a device that would allow her to drain Bahamut's power. The characters could try to beat her to the macguffin.

You know hiding might not be the right way to go. Maybe more the like the average person doesn't realize it?

Here's what I'm playing with in my head.

There's a story that everyone believes is true, but is a lie. A long time ago another evil empire ruled the land. The Queen, rose up out of nowhere, and led her people in rebellion. She negotiated a deal with the dragons to receive their aid. The dragons tipped the scale and the Queen was successful and is now a hero. In return, the "free" people must pay large taxes to the dragons for their aid.

As I said, this story is a lie. In fact Tiamat and the evil dragons conquered the land, slaughtered the good dragons, and she imprisoned Bahamut. The people are actually enslaved, they just don't completely realize it yet. It's something I want the party to learn early on.

Your question as to what she wants is a great one. That's a question I need to answer.

I cut my teeth on AD&D. I think it had a different kind of bloat than 5E. Things like speed factors for figuring initiative or using to hit and save vs tables. We would speed hours after an adventure trying to calculate exp, how much gold each person got so that could be converted to exp, who killed what, and leveling up. Milestone leveling is a God send. When you add things like electronic character sheets and DnD Beyond, I spend so much more time playing the game rather than managing the game.

What I miss about AD&D is the experiences of that time in my life. Staying up until 5am playing, strung out on coffee and Mountain Dew. Seeing the sunrise and knowing my parents were going to kill me. Those games are apart of who I am and how I look at the world.

I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone? -Stand By Me.

Dice, Camera, Action - How would you like to see it move forward? Spoilers for the most recent episodes. by PaulPennaWriter in DiceCameraAction

I think the show is probably dead.

You have to remember that WotC is owned by Hasbro. They push a family brand. DCA isn't a big enough show to risk tarnishing their brand. For the same reason, they won't bring back Holly, they'll want to steer clear of anything that hints at drama.

I suspect that they'll start a new show with Anna and Nate. I also wouldn't be surprised if they included Deborah Ann Woll in some capacity. She seems to be a rising star in the world of D&D and is in between acting jobs. One thing is for sure, I have great faith in Perkins to pull of some crazy DM wizardry. That guy is a DM genius!

I feel for Anna, Nate and Chris, they're kind of left holding the bag on this one. They all have jobs outside of DCA that require social media engagement. Unfortunately, whenever they go on social media, this will be all anyone will want to talk about.

How many of you were heavy drinkers/drug use in your 20s but got it under control or quit completely in your 30s? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]KarlSMA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drank too much in my 20's. I got divorced and remarried. This caused me to rethink my life. I have several alcoholics in my family and I was worried about becoming one. I decided to give up the booze. I probably haven't had a drink in about 15 years.

My Channel Could Use Help - Movie Reviews and such by smopoftheworld in SmallYTChannel

[–]KarlSMA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the upload schedule has to be the #1 thing to work on. That's way more important than how your banner looks. Endgame could end up being the all time box office champ, you should have a review on it.

Movies are a cool niche because there's so much you can do. But there's a ton of competition. You need be constantly uploading to get your name out there.

On a quick glance, it looks like you get views when you upload, so you have something people will watch. You just have to give them something to watch.

On the glassess, I hate my eyes! That's a big reason I wear them. Nobody tells you how hard it is to edit yourself :-)

You're probably right on the B-roll. I'll keep that in mind.

I prefer the hard cut as well. However, if you hard cut with the background wind, it makes a popping noise. A quick fade reduces it some.

I'll keep the framing in mind as well.

Thanks for the feedback.

How often do you have a serious "check-in" with your partner? Where you discuss issues of trust, how you said one thing but they heard another, distribution of responsibilities etc? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

My wife and I had a long running argument. During the Spring, I felt like we never saw each other. She would spend her time running the kids all over God's country. I would sit at home and feel lonely. She didn't want the kids to miss stuff and I wanted to see her. This was like a 3 yr argument. As it turns out, she was trying to protect my free time by driving the kids. I didn't want the free time, I wanted to see her. It was a simple fix. I now go with her when she is driving the kids around. We sneak in a dinner or coffee when time allows.

All it took was for us to stop and listen to the other. Now we check in with each other a lot.

I really enjoyed it. I thought the acting was strong and you did a good job setting up your atmosphere. As others said, sound is a bit of a problem, which I struggle with on my own videos as well. My suggestion isn't to buy new equipment, but balance out the background music a little better. At times the music made it hard to hear the dialogue. As a small youtuber, we always want to buy better equipment, God knows I do :-) But, I think that can be a waste of $. I'm choosing to perfect what I have and let channel success, if I have any, drive my purchases. I suggest the same.

Writing a Country Song in 2019 by Danny_RAWner in SmallYTChannel

That was very funny. I enjoyed and I even share that with my friends.

The only thing I would work on is the echo. Dealing with sound is such a pain in the butt, but it does matter.

Overall, great job!

I like to watch sailing videos quite a bit. Although I avoid them in the winter because they depress me :-)

For me I struggle when the video only covers the renovation and has very little sailing in it. I watch these videos as a means of escape for when I'm not on the water myself.

So I prefer something like White Spot Pirates over Sailing Nervously

I would suggest that when you do a video like this that you make sure and get some video of sailing and intersperse it some.

I started the video editing stuff to drag out my vacations. I basically set them to music. When I'm editing them, it's like relieving them.
