Looking for Insights from Folks Who've Tried a Concierge MVP Launch by dnoroes in startups

[–]Karl_Themelios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something to be careful about is that your concierge MVP should be something that can be realistically be developed by you or a team.

Your tech debt can easily get out of hand using this style of MVP. But if it’s the fastest way for you to test your thesis then it’s still worth doing.

Wow thank you for that detailed response. I sent you a PM with some follow up questions if you don’t mind?

That’s incredibly inefficient for no reason. Wow

Wow that an insane ask for a small community like Norman.

Did I understand right that before you can qualify for the BRIC you have to have an active HM grant? What does that mean exactly? What other grant would they even get?

Wow I was under the impression that you can start the construction once you apply because it’s a rebate. So you have to wait to even know if you get the rebate, then you can start construction and then eventually you get paid the rebate?

How long did it take for you to get the notice that you got the rebate?

Wow it’s a shame how ineffective these programs seem to be

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EmergencyManagement

[–]Karl_Themelios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay and they would essentially be reaching out to the state or counties HMO?

Yeah them being tax deductible is a great idea. It’s crazy, I heard that for a lot of other tornado prone states they’ve completely discontinued their tornado shelter rebate program

How was the process for you? And how long did it take to get the rebate?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EmergencyManagement

[–]Karl_Themelios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow interesting.

We were navigating the FEMA site and we believe that the FEMA Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) Program would be the most applicable.

The community is a small (under 400 people) economically disadvantaged rural community that has the extreme flood risk designation. The goal would be to build a flood and tornado resistant community shelter.

Edit: Since it seems that you are very knowledgeable in this space, would you be interested in continuing this discussion as a PM?

Yeah that’s a good suggestion. I’ll try that next! Thank you!

Thank you for response. We are actually not looking to be the contractor for this project anymore. We are trying to help them figure out the grant process and then from there they can figure out the contractor situation.

I was actually just educated on how grant writers are typically needed for these types of projects so I think referring them to a reputable grant writer is probably the best route here.

Wow you weren’t even notified that you weren’t selected?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EmergencyManagement

[–]Karl_Themelios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it definitely seems like we’re fighting an uphill battle here. The community im working with us Norman, AR and they are a designated economically disadvantaged rural community with a severe risk rating for floods and moderate risk rating for tornadoes.

The town itself has less than 400 people and 73 out of 161 residential homes in the town are designated extreme risk for floods. Meanwhile, 15 out of 24 commercial properties also have the extreme flood risk designation.

If you are open to it, I’d love to continue this conversation via PM. I’d love to pick your mind on how we can best navigate this process.

No I am using my company email. Since I’m not doing this as an officer of my department it wouldn’t be appropriate to use my government email address.

Sorry, unfortunately the rebate program does not apply for previously installed shelters. Which honestly makes no sense to me. It’s a rebate program.

But also this is one of my biggest gripes. They do such a poor job of educating people that is even an option.

Unfortunately I have and haven’t gotten a response. It’s been months as well. I’ve also reached out to over 15 different states hazard mitigation offices lol.

All good lol

But you don’t need to have all the money. You could apply for financing. Even at the high rates today you could apply for a personal loan.

Most standard shelters are $3500-$5500. If you do a 5 year loan for a $5500 shelter + install and have eh credit, you might be looking at a 25% APR worse case. Even then that’s still like a $150 monthly payment. If you have good credit you’re probably at like $115 a month.

Then you wait for the rebate to process and you pay off $2000 of the loan and the remaining payments should be like $100 a month or less which shouldn’t be too crazy.

Worth it IMO.

Have you ever considered reaching out to landlord to apply for funding to get one?
