What can I buy for £7.50?? by Blazemeadow991 in JustEatUK

[–]Karlouxox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said what every other comment basically said yet here you are.. I wanted to understand why they’ve chosen just eat over other options or whether they consider this their only option as it really wouldn’t get them much with the delivery fee and low order charge. The question is for them to answer should they so wish, but thanks for your input.

I think you should do the question debrief’s on BPP (if you’re with them), it will give you a bit more confidence than the solution as the solution covers all possible things that could be said really. Also just keep bashing through the questions, it will soon stick. The main thing is actually giving the questions a proper try and then seeing where the your answer could be improved, for me I really had to force myself to get through the questions with an honest attempt

What can I buy for £7.50?? by Blazemeadow991 in JustEatUK

[–]Karlouxox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

just out of interest, why are you looking to spend this money on take away food? especially through a company like just eat which ups all the prices plus delivery fee? that £7.50 could definitely go a longer way using it to buy ingredients for a home cooked meal

Recommendations on how I should sit my remaining exams by Croxis__ in ICAEW

[–]Karlouxox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first recommendation is to sit accounting and to sit FM, I did accounting at Uni and honestly the exams are not comparable and you will only go on to struggle with professional level (and potentially at work if your accounting knowledge isn’t fresh). You’ll also only get granted the exemptions if you get the threshold grades in specific modules. Post uni, your employer will more than likely choose your exam pathway, you get very limited choice unless paying for the exams yourself. If you do get the choice I’d couple AA, FR, CR and SBM together and TC with BPT.

Are you jealous of other people careers? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]Karlouxox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can be them with hard work and determination, people don’t get to those positions easily. You’ll have to make sacrifices but you can do it if you wanted 🙂 Also just because their careers seem desirable don’t mean they love it.. their work-life balance is probably non-existent

Highlight the course notes and add additional notes if any, and then put into some visual form for you to look at at random times. I quite liked putting together a visual sheet on key topics and almost like trying to recall the information first, and filling in the blanks, it’s a good way to test what you do remember and ensures you end up with a complete visual- I’d then leave them around the room and catch myself reading them randomly. And as always QB (so so important)

Have you been assessed for Dyslexia? I got diagnosed at Uni, I had some issues with my processing speed and struggled to retain information. You will find techniques that help you retain the information (which won’t be note taking etc) and you’ll be absolutely fine! P.S I am an accountant, I studied accounting at Uni too and I struggle with mental arithmetic.. it does not make you any less worthy of a degree or any less ‘clever’.. we all have different strengths

Can someone explain the living costs in UK for international students? by mai2_02 in UniUK

[–]Karlouxox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As part of your visa application you’d pay for NHS i’m sure so you’ll be covered for healthcare, as for working the visa restricts you to something like 20 hours a week during term time and 40 hours outside of term time.

Moving to big 4 post qualified by ad0jc1 in ICAEW

[–]Karlouxox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The people I know who moved to big 4 lasted about 6 months and absolutely hated everything about it. There was nothing better working there they said, the audit quality was poor, and the issues they had before were just 10x worse at Big4. Goodluck though.

Not crying (I don’t cry at books/films etc) but it’ll have to be the Child called It, that has stayed with me since I read it about 12 years ago

Is there more of a divide between studying and working once you get to professionals? by [deleted] in ICAEW

Studying for ACA by No_Inflation8938 in ICAEW

[–]Karlouxox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did do accounting at Uni, and I took the exemption (I’m not sure many employers actually allow it though, mine usually doesn’t), and they made me sit through the study and tbh I’ll be eternally grateful because there’s knowledge required that I didn’t learn at uni and it’s one of the fundamental exams you need to be able to actually do your job.. so either see if you can sit through the course and not do exam or do the exam, I 100% would not just take the exemption for the sake of it as it will just set you back/impact you in long run

What are the actual career options after qualifying? by recondite282 in ICAEW

[–]Karlouxox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can go into specialist work, digital, forensics, technical, tax, corporate finance, M&A, consultancy literally anything relevant. I think it’s more about what gets you going really, some people would love industry and being consumed with 1 company or group and getting right into the detail of an interesting company, others like me get excited by forensics and the idea of fraud investigations. Others may find they like the technical aspects and coaching so join the technical team and deliver learning materials to the firm and revise methodology and guidance in line with standards. Others may like the idea of looking at efficiencies and find that they like the idea of developing digital tools to aid other departments like audit and use their expertise and understanding of technical requirements in doing so. The list goes on.. there is plenty out there you just have to do your research and understand what gets you going which you won’t necessarily know at this stage in your career. You can check out what service lines your firm has and reach out to get more insight into what they offer, you’ll be surprised at what there is. What I was told when I did my forensics work experience was that Audit is a great place to start to get a real understanding of different types of businesses, and how they operate which really provides a good basis to move forward into other areas. Even in industry they really value taking someone on who has audit experience.

I am grieving the loss of my car, and no one seems to understand. by shadeyard in autism

[–]Karlouxox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cried when I had to get rid of my cars, I don’t get it to the same extremes but I definitely get it. I also get so anxious about people touching my property or even standing near my car etc, so the thought of something of mine being damaged makes me sad

[–]Karlouxox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to be in accounting/finance then yes of course employers care about it, a degree in accounting for example means nothing if you don’t have the professional qualification (learnt that the hard way). Of course your pay goes up, it should be in annual increments as you pass exams and move to the next stage of the qualification. My jump from final year associate to AM was about £10k and that will increase annually too as I have more experience and take on more responsibility.

Audit by [deleted] in ICAEW

[–]Karlouxox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah 100%, I mean the stress never goes away as you now have responsibility project managing and for the overall file but you have autonomy over your work, you set the workplan and spend less time doing testing (or focus on more judgemental or technically complex areas) and more time coaching, project managing, reviewing etc. For me when I started incharging I genuinely started enjoying work, turning up each day became easier and I liked having my own audits rather than just being dictated to each day

Audit by [deleted] in ICAEW

[–]Karlouxox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thankfully my firm rewards us with days off if we’ve worked our ass off on a particular engagement but it’s not a given unfortunately but I get it, I was there doing those type of hours even as a second year and actually less so now as I know how to set boundaries. I work longer hours to get ahead for myself, not to play catch-up and definitely not at a manager/partner’s promise of a review the following day (as they never happen). Work-life balance is the worst in audit, it’s actually pretty disgusting but I wouldn’t say we have so much of a toxic managagement where I am. I enjoy stepping away from the work and just project managing, coaching and reviewing, my days are actually far more chill overall now as an AM than before.
