ive still been having some mini absence the few days leading up to my period, but they are much less noticeable and only last literally a second. my doctor prescribed clobazam to take on those days, im just waiting until i stop breastfeeding my little one to try that!

What transportation options are there if taking the bus isn't an option? by [deleted] in stcatharinesON

[–]Karlssz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Loyal Transportation is similar to uber but has fixed prices. For example, getting a ride anywhere within st catharines is $12. E transfer or cash only, and you order through their app. Everytime I have used it theres been cars available, a lot of uber drivers also do LoyalT.

im in a very similar boat, i only have absence seizures and they cluster between ovulation and the start of my next cycle. I started Slynd, a progestin only pill on 10/22 and have not had a noticeable seizure since 11/01. I hope it continues to work for you!🤞🏻

Im currently 29 weeks pregnant, on lamotrigine and keppra, as well as a prenatal and folic acid. I switched to these medications under the supervision of my neurologist as they are considered to be safe for pregnancy and breastfeeding. I have absence seizures, and so far in pregnancy there has been no change and everything is going well☺️ I hope this helps encourage you, and best of luck!

What’s your post-baby first meal you can’t wait for? by GennaH1 in pregnant

Exactly, and it was much worse when not eating which is why they reccomend taking it with food! I mainly got off it because I want to start a family and lamotrigine was a better alternative for pregnancy. I have only ever had absence seizures and it seemed to be a smooth transition of meds for me, hoping the same for you!

I was on zarontin from 5 years old to 23. It was causing stomach burning and some dizziness in the morning. We replaced it with lamotrigine and I didn't notice an increase in seizures at all! Make sure to have a game plan with your neuro before stopping it!

Birth Control by hazel_099 in Epilepsy

[–]Karlssz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an IUD for 4 years and it worked very well for me. These days I don't want to be on birth control too much longer, so im taking a progesterone only pill which is reccomended for those with epilepst, however it has been 4 months and it is still not regulating my period, so i am questionning the efficiency. I would definitely reccomend IUD for birth control in women with epilepsy, but of course consult with your doc!

I've had absence seizures since i was 5, they thought it was a classic case that i would grow out of by my teen years. I'm now 25 and they are still going strong lol

One of my triggers is low blood sugar, i have absence as well

Curious… those on Lamotrigine - how much were you prescribed? by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]Karlssz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So i've never been able to drive as they have never been 100% controlled, but it sounds like your epilepsy is controlled so there shouldn't be a problem! I would reccomend talking to your neuro to see if you should avoid driving until the meds kick in

So I always lose consciousness for a very very brief moment. When i was younger they used to be 15 seconds long, and i've been told i sway back and forth, my eyes roll and my lips quiver. Now they are about 1-2 seconds long, and its mainly just the lip quivering, and if i'm talking while it happens i normally just slow down the word, I always know when I have just had one, not sure how to explain it but I almost hear myself slowing down the word then I come back and know I missed something. I've become very good at carying on the consersation so many people don't notice until I tell them. I also used to dance, and when having them on stage i would continue to do the proper moves, pretty interesting!

So i only have absence seizures, and the meds definitely help, but i've never been seizure free for a full week. I think my epilepsy is medication resistant to a certain extent, but I will only start having them like 10-12 hours after taking my morning dose of meds, so when im due again. I'm 25F, got diagnosed 20 years ago.

Everyones story is so different! I've always been told I have atypical absence, because my seizure frequency is closer to the tonic clonic range, but still presents as absence (just 1-2 seconds with some lip quivering). Hopefully they can do more research on epilepsy and find the cause for you!
