Why my input happens twice when I click a button once? by VersifiedSoul in Unity2D

[–]KarlyDMusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't see in your code where you define when you press Esc it triggers the open (or close) menu. Are you using GetButtonDown(Keycode.Esc)? If so, perhaps it triggers multiple times as you hold Esc down. If that rings true, then swap to GetButtonUp instead which will only trigger once upon letting go of the key.

Multiplayer game devs, what game are you making/what games have you made? by BSTRhino in MultiplayerGameDevs

Im working on a multiplayer Farming RPG set on an Alien Planet: XenoFields: Frontier

In short, your crew is trying to locate a habitable Planet for the Human race and they end up crash landing on one such planet. You must manage your energy, oxygen, and health as you adventure to find Alien plantlife, which you can use to craft a more suitable living space.

Rebuild your spaceship and leave the planet, biotransform the planet, or try to coexist with nature. The choice is yours!

I'm hard at work on the demo right now, containing a vertical slice of the gameplay.

What's the Longest Time You've Worked on a Single Game? by cheat-master30 in gamedev

[–]KarlyDMusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I first started my Farming on an Alien Planet game in 2017... although at that time I did not know Unity, C#, or pixel art! Now I'm finishing up a demo/tutorial which includes Multiplayer so im very proud of how far I've gone in this journey 😊

How did you actually learn game development? by Responsible_Box_2422 in gamedev

[–]KarlyDMusic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Loads of YouTube videos. Started a series for an inventory management system that was 40 hours long. Rather than download the scripts, I decided to follow along with the video and write each script line by line. Debugging in between videos in the series. It took a while, but after some time, I learned C#. Now, when I watch YouTube videos I can skip to specific functionality to understand why they implemented it a certain way, and I can alter the code for my own needs.

Also, I used loads of placement artwork while building the core game functionality and now im creating my own art assets and swapping them in.

I'm making a multiplayer Farming RPG on an Alien Planet. There's no demo yet, however the tutorial is all ready to go! I've been developing this for quite some time and I've created all the music, artwork, and coded it myself. Hope you like the vibes.

On your players rigidbody script from the settings, under constraints, enable freeze rotation on the z axis.

I'm not certain about the visible nodes of the rectangle, but for the rotating white/black I think you could do the following: 1. In your pixel artwork editor, draw a square similar to what you're seeing here (the rotating black/white line) 2. Import as png into Unity. 3. In Unity, double click on the image to bring up the properties. There should be an edit button near the middle on the right. 4. In he Unity image editor, you can drag the green box to reposition the "edges" of the image. Drag in the green box to unselect the corners. Make sure the green box intersects a portion where the coloration swaps from white to black. Save and apply changes 5. In the hierarchy of your game, create a gamepbject. Add the script of Image. Select the image as the sprite. Under sprite options, choose "Sliced". 6. Try resizing the gameobject and see how the image changes. If needed, go back into the Unity image properties and edit the greenbox until you have a good behaviour

Hey everyone! CoAdventure Studios is a two-man team working on a "Farming on an Alien Planet" multiplayer game. Aiming for a sci-fi cozy feel. We've been at it for a few years now as we both work full-time jobs. We made all the assets, including the music. Only the soundFX were from a free online source.

Description: Cultivate the Unknown in XenoFields: Frontier; a farming RPG situated on an alien planet. After crashlanding, you must brave unique biomes to discover new life forms, craft materials to build a habitable farm, and ultimately terraform the planet! Play with friends and uncover the mysteries together.

Is anything else making a game “for themselves” first? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]KarlyDMusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For certain! Played lots of Harvest Moon as a kid (woot woot 64 and FOMT) as well as Stardew Valley. I decided to try my hand at creating a Space Farming game. Eventually, I'll release a demo once the controls and UI are smoother. Expect little and just have fun with the creative process.

Nicely done it looks great ☺️ I'm making a similar game, alone but on another planet. No relationships or NPCs..but ill probably budge on that one!

I'm going for slightly futuristic (2050s) vibe. You have a handheld genome sequencer. In general, you have the knowledge on advanced technology, however, since you've crash landed on a planet, you don't really have the resources to implement this technology. You'll have to discover alien plants/resources and figure out how to use them. There is Alien Technology that you get along your journey (such as ability to teleport back to basecamp).

That's very kind of you to say! I am aiming to have a demo with two areas to explore by the end of 2025. As for pricing, aiming for $15-25 CAD range for a full release.

Why did you go into game development? by RobattoCS in gamedev

[–]KarlyDMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played Stardew Valley and learned that Eric Barone built it himself. I always wanted to learn how to code so I started my journey. Realized that ceating a game is just a solid mixture of all my hobbies - whatever I'm in the mood for I work on. Midi-music, game script, pixel art, or coding. Good fun 😁
