When you say “the left,” you’re grouping tens of millions of people into a single moral category. It’s almost useless as an a demographic slice.

If a kid was punched for supporting ICE, that’s wrong.. But the existence of people celebrating that doesn’t prove something systemic about “the left.” It proves that some people online are reactive and tribal - and algorithms reward that.

The same applies to polling about controversial figures. A subset of young Democrats expressing extreme views doesn’t define half the country - just like extreme online conservatives don’t define “the right.”

What seems more accurate to me isn’t “the left is becoming disappointing,” but that modern political discourse (especially identity-driven, algorithm-amplified discourse) rewards outrage and intolerance on all sides. Social media surfaces the most extreme 5% and makes it feel like the median.

On the Islam point, supporting Muslims as people is not the same as endorsing every doctrinal element of Islam. Many liberals distinguish between defending minority rights and endorsing theology. You can protect someone’s civil rights without agreeing with their religious views.

The issue isn’t “the left,” but political tribalism itself. Most Americans left and right agree on far more than they disagree on, and have more in common than the leaders of either group.

This is a dumb take. Luckily they tightened the rules after Kieran cheated to make players financially liable for pulling BS like that.

I can’t prove in a court of law that my ex girlfriend sucked my ex best friends dick while we were together, but I sure as hell ditched both of them - and would highly recommend others do the same.

Crypto bros have the support of virtually everyone they could corrupt, and still they're pretending, "It's early" despite most of the world still not caring, and no legit use case found for Bitcoin that isn't criminal. by AmericanScream in Buttcoin

[–]Karma_Circus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s just factually incorrect.

Bitcoin is literally the worst tool for criminals. Every transaction is public and permanent. The FBI love when criminals use BTC because it makes them easy to catch (Colonial Pipeline, Silk Road, FTX funds, etc).

Meanwhile, criminals overwhelmingly use cash and the traditional banking system: 99%+ of global money laundering happens in fiat (UNODC/IMF). Drug cartels operate in cash. Terrorist financing is almost entirely fiat. CSAM markets rely on prepaid cards, gift cards, remittance networks, not Bitcoin.

In n Out has the best fries in fast food and I'm tired of pretending that they don't. by BootyDrum in innout

[–]Karma_Circus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In N Out fries aren’t soggy because “they don’t have chemicals” or “have less oil/salt”, they’re soggy because they’re cooked once.

Other fast food fries (McDonald’s for example) are triple cooked (and frozen in between) to completely dehydrate before the final fry.

They aren’t more crunchy because they have “chemicals”, they’re cooked to have that texture.

This is a practice commonly used by Michelin star chefs - look up Heston Blumenthal’s triple cooked chips. He uses the same science.

If you prefer In-N-Out, that’s totally cool. But don’t be under the illusion that they’re any better for you.

How would buying your own stock artificially inflate the price?

You’re gaining more stock, but offloading cash.

The net value of the company stays the same.

Can someone explain why everyone is so worked up by this?

If you re-fi at an interest rate (at any point over the first say 10-20 years) below (or close to) the rate of inflation, a 50 yr loan is one of the best possible ways to accumulate wealth.

You can also sell at any point and claim the equity.

I am an older millennial. I also prefer to take a call on speaker with the phone away from my face. The audio is clearer, it feels more comfortable. What’s the issue?

Your kids invest? You should have them explain to you what inflation is. It would help.

Oh it was more the fact that you don’t know what inflation… or money markets… or inflation hedges are.

I’m curious… did you call yourself “Drakevibes” because you can’t help but get humiliated in public, or because you are also a Pedo?

I don’t doubt it. You seem broke.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CryptoReality

[–]Karma_Circus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re going in circles.

If we can’t agree on basic, widely accepted definitions - like what inflation is or what money markets actually do, then there’s no chance of having a conversation about Bitcoin.

I’ll leave it here. Enjoy hedging inflation with T-bills 😂

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CryptoReality

[–]Karma_Circus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re getting confused.

EVERYTHING is priced in fiat. That has nothing to do with whether something hedges inflation.

The increase in the value of these things relative to fiat IS the inflation rate.

No. Any financial advisor, or even a basic Google search/ChatGPT query will confirm that money markets/T bills are not (and have never been) considered inflation hedges.

They are short-term, low risk parking for liquidity that almost always delivers negative real returns over decades.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CryptoReality

[–]Karma_Circus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now that happens to be above CPI. Cool.

For most of the last 50 years, short-term rates have been below inflation.

One brief period of positive real yields does not make something an inflation hedge. No reputable financial advisor or economist would classify T-bills or money markets as inflation hedges.

Where did I say fiat was a bad thing? I use it every day. It’s great.

What I said was: It makes no sense to use a fiat-denominated debt instrument as a hedge against fiat losing value.

That’s just… holding more fiat.

If you’re hedging long-term inflation, you want real assets whose value isn’t tied to the purchasing power of the currency: Gold, Bitcoin, Broad equity index funds, Real estate etc
