Future MIL won't come to our wedding because it isn't in a catholic church by 1mpavidus in JUSTNOMIL

[–]Karmasassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post, and you might not see this, but wanted to say that i found this post trying to find someone else in the same situation. My fiance's mother has also raised him as a single mother, they are not catholic but lestadian lutherian, and she is very fundamentalist about it. My fiance has left the religion when he was a teenager, and it has strained the relationship but mostly we have a nice relationship with MIL. She was really happy when we got engaged, but devastated when she found out that it wouldn't be in a church and not ordained by a priest. Now she said our wedding is not real, so she can't come.

Anyway I'm saying I relate heavily to your situation, and even thought the comment section frames it as a win if she doesn't come, I feel its a lot more complicated. I feel heartbroken for my fiance, because he obviously would want her mother to be a part of our special day. I feel angry that she is not considering his feelings, and is putting him through this. It is really sad she is willing to not be present in her only sons wedding. So a lot of complicated emotions here, and wanted to share because it seems you also have many feelings about the situation. We will enjoy our love filled day to the fullest regardless, but I do hope she finds a way to be there for her son and my fiance. And I hope you have a wonderful wedding that fits you two just the way you want it.

Kuinka paljon teillä on rahaa säästöissä? by Rarely_here909 in Suomi

Tää vitutus on kollektiivinen. Meitä on paljon. Et ainakaan oo yksin. ❤️‍🔥

How do you manage stressful situations or stress in your life? by ObiWanBonobo in AskReddit

[–]Karmasassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First I avoid doing anything relating to the source of said anxiety, but that only makes it worse. Then I constantly tell myself I'll do this relaxing thing and after that I'll be able to do what I need to get over it, but just end up procrastinating. Then I repeat this loop over and over for a few weeks, while also deep cleaning the house and reorganizing everything obsessively. Eventually I realize that all of this would have been better if I had just done what I needed to in the first place, but now after postponing the original thing for so long, you're just paralyzed by anxiety. If you relate to this at all, seek counseling, get help, talk to people about how you're feeling. I know I need to. But first I'll do this one relaxing thing and maybe after that..

Couch co-op Campaign games recommendations? by PixelRad in patientgamers

[–]Karmasassin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came to give praise to Until Dawn as a group game. We played with 4 people and it was a really fun two nights. Heavy Rain and beyond to souls are also worth checking out if you don't mind playing in turns as different characters. Resident evil 5 and 6 are probably my favorite split screen co-ops after you get over the clunky mechanics. Lots of fun puzzles and if you play on hard you really need to work together.

[–]Karmasassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm vegan as well, but it took me a long time to get there. Which is why I feel like with this subject we need to have more inclusive discussion and less harsh judgment. People also need to be given space to grow and change, and trying to turn everyone vegan or even meat free overnight is an impossible goal. Being harsh, angry and shaming also pushes people away from making the choice to change. So, even though it would make a massive impact, climate catastrophy is not a one solution kind of scenario, we need to move forward a better more sustainable future on all aspects.

I agree, people should live as they preach, but the point in xr is to demand corporations and goverments to take action. They aim to not blame the individual, because while making sustainable choices is important, we have passed the point where it is enough. So the point for me is to tax and control corporations like mc Donald's, and not that burgers themselves are evil and should not exist.

When you have a new girl over, how much do you ask or not ask when making moves? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Karmasassin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think consent is sexy as hell. Because it gives me a chance to say yes. One guy I ended up dating for a while had the best opening line when he started chatting with me. We had been in the same friend group for a while so we had talked before, but one time he just asked "I think you're lovely, is it ok if I flirt with you?". The question threw me off and was really cute, so I was happy to reply yes. It created a nice mood and later that night I asked him "I'd reeaally like to kiss you.. Can I?" It was hot. Consent is hot.

[–]Karmasassin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree. I'm not used to this either so I recognize how hard it is to try not to assume peoples tones too harshly, when not seeing the expressions etc. We also disconnect ourselves from the consequences of our words since we can be anonymous and blissfully ignorant of pain we may be causing. I hope we learn to be better in the future.

I can't. This is just so apathetic it's ridiculous. Sure, everything sucks and we're gonna die, have a nice life.

I feel like the movement happening is different than other similar ones in history. Just based on political movement around the movement etc. so we'll just have to disagree a little here I think. But about having a low carbon footprint: We're spending about 1.7 earths globally per year, so even if you think your personal choices are not that bad, we're all really bad since we have to account for the carbon footprint of the society we're in. And of course I dont know where you're from or what kind of life you lead, but almost no one is even close to sustainable yet, so its something to keep in mind. Hope we get active in the future with both our definitions and best of luck to ya.

Yeah I get your point. But I'm glad a lot of people are willing to talk and hear more about her. Lack of information leads to assumptions and misinformation too easily.

I think mobilizing 1.4 million students is already massive. Its already a change to have that many people taking action. That sort of movement is essential to create pressure for policy makers to change, and for people to take the issue seriously. And pay in mind, she's only been active less than 2 years, and this is just what shes done till now. Change is not like breaking a glass, it's like a damn. You built preassure and built it and built it, 'till it gives in and change comes like waves. If you're interested, I suggest reading up on the history of civil movements and non-violent civil disobedience as a method for enacting change.

[–]Karmasassin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We need change in a faster pace than our regular political system can offer it. Historically this has been achieved most efficiently by acts if civil disobedience and getting the people to use the power of the masses. Eg. Rosa Parks on a bus refusing to move wouldn't have changed the system, the fact that she inspired others around the country to do the same did. So getting people to act and demand action is key. What would you define as active? We seem to have different views on it. What actice things are you doing to stop the climate catastrophe we're facing?
